Need advice and help asap. So since I have access to DH’s phone and FB, I on occasion look in the FB. For whatever reason, when I looked at the messages yesterday, there was one in archive. I opened it up and as soon as I saw the name, my body went numb and my heart sank. They were messages to and from his ex-girlfriend. The messages were from 2 years ago and only lasted over 2 days and then her FB was deleted or it isn’t active anymore. When I confronted him I asked him if there was something he needed to tell me about her. He said he didn’t know what I was talking about, etc. I told him what I knew and that I was disappointed in him. Needless to say I was very angry and hurt. He said that the ex had contacted his sister and him. He said it meant nothing and he was ignorant for even replying. We fought all night and this morning. This is a girl that he was with for 3 years and was intimate with. He left her for me when I became pregnant so there has always been that “ex girlfriend” issue with this one. He has asked for my forgiveness, it is 2 years ago and we are working on our marriage. I just need advice on forgiveness. We have counseling next week which this will be addressed. Please help as I’m having a difficult time right now.

Please read my other post about history and why there is no trust.

I have 2 questions that are not the nicest questions but i think they need to be asked.
Was he gonna leave her before you got pregnant and did he get married because of the pregnancy?

Justamon, have you explored with your therapist whether jealousy could be fueling your feelings?

I can’t answer for him. He cheated on her their entire relationship so I don’t know what would have become of them.

That was one of the reasons we did get married. But he has assured me all these years and our counselor that he chose me and did not marry me because of the pregnancy. His father offered to send him back to the Phillipines to avoid getting married. He chose marriage.

This only happened Wednesday. We meet this Wednesday with our counselor. I am having severe depression and anxiety. I am up and down with the emotions. What do I do?

Ditto. Based on what you wrote, I don’t see that he did anything wrong. You, however, I think overreacted. You came up to him and asked him if there was anything he needed to tell you – about two-year-old FB messages. If I were married and my husband did that to me, I would be irate.

I hope you get counseling for this because this could open up a huge hole in your relationship. No one wants to be accused of things like this out of the blue with no true justification nor does anyone want to walk on eggshells around their spouse wondering when the next shoe will drop. That would be a miserable way to exist.

I am sorry you feel he did nothing wrong. He absolutely did. The ex girlfriend situation was always a sore subject and his sister told me that my husband knew contacting her would hurt me. He did it regardless of my feelings and never said anything to me. And what kindnof closure could he possibly need after so many years?

If my wife raised some messages sent to an old girlfriend TWO YEARS ago, I would be worried about her jealousy and would do everything in my power to make her comfortable in the relationship. However, I see too often women with too good a memory about the old faults of their husbands destroy what they have, an imperfect man, for a delusion, the perfect man.
Men soon tire of such a pedestal and will walk away from a relationship that they cannot live up to. Be careful your jealousy of ghosts doesn’t destroy the family you now have.
Work yourself into the victim mentality within the marriage and you will find yourself on the wounded list. Pry surreptitiously into someone’s past at your own peril.

No, he absolutely did not. You have taken something from two years ago - that wasn’t even a big deal at that time - and decided to make it a big deal today. This needless drama is going to be the death of your marriage if you don’t get your irrational feelings under control.

Maybe for your marriage it is okay. For mine, it isn’t based on his history of lies, infedility and secrets. I don’t expect everybody to understand or agree as obviously you aren’t married to my husband and know our history. There is much more than a few posts.

What did the emails say? I mean context is everything.

He should have told you two years ago, but now you have to put it behind you. There’s nothing he can do about it now anyway except to say he’s sorry and to not do it again. Are you going to let a woman who spoke to him for two days via the internet ruin all of your years together of marriage and family? There may be other reasons to currently be angry at your husband, but this is not one of them, especially since as you said he has asked for your forgiveness.

I would also add, at least he is going to counseling with you which is really really good.

You said he cheated on her the entire relationship.

I guess the question is…has he cheated on you before?

This would explain everything. If he has already cheated on you before and you know about it…of course this kind of thing is sketchy and needs to be addressed.

If there has never been any indication that he has cheated on you before then you overreacted big time.

Randomguy180- You took the words right out of my mouth. 🙂
It is common for the woman who cheats with a man to then get huffy when she is cheated upon. 😦

Well he said that there was the “initial” message where she contacted him. That one is NOT there. The one that is there is the one he created. He insists (and swears on his life) that she initiated the contact. He starts by saying hello friend and that he was trying to stay in touch. When she asked him if he had married me, he did not answer, quickly changed the subject and said “enough about me, tell me about you.” She then told him to request her on FB “and you will know all about me.” He replied “ladies first :)”. There were a few messages after that and then it ended. Based on what I saw FB, he initiated this message, not her.

What pisses me off and hurts the most is that he is always so nice and flirtatious with other females yet with his wife he’s an ***.

Hello.

I wish I knew what to tell you but I don’t, am not qualified.

Here’s a prayer that may help:

“Jesus I trust in you.”

Placing you in the enclosed garden of the most sacred heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Perhaps going to Adoration every day for a while may ease your state of mind, I dunno. It helps me.

Please feel free to pm me if you’d like.

Thank you for the prayer. I may be irrational as some call me, but I can’t apologize for feeling the way I do right now. I have every reason and right to feel.

These are notes from two years ago, with no evidence of any activity since? He is transparent enough to give you access to his phone and his Facebook account? He didn’t know what you were talking about because you expected him to read your mind about something that he did two years ago and has probably forgotten about entirely?

You decided to marry him, knowing that you had supplanted someone else. Should he be jealous and suspicious of you, because you are a woman with a history of moving in on another woman’s boyfriend?

My advice on forgiveness is to admit to him that your jealousy and insecurity have to do with things in his past that are also in yours. That is a burden your relationship has to carry, because the two of you were complicit in how your relationship started, and it was in an ethical grey area in the most charitable reading, correct?

If your relationship is going to survive and be happy, you are going to have to either carry that burden together or else (better yet), put it down and let it go. Dare to believe that he wishes your relationship had started differently every bit as much as you do, and has no more power than you do to go back and do it differently.

Mostly, realize that depression affects your ability to see clearly very deeply. It makes it hard to see truly. Believing what you know in your mind instead of the awful things you feel is a lot of work. Try very hard to be kind to yourself and kind to your husband. Work with your counsellor to forge boundaries and ways of interacting with each other that will help you each to avoid hurting the other inadvertently. You have a tough path, so don’t beat yourself up for finding this hard, but work at it. You can do this, and for the sake of yourselves and your child, there is no work you will ever be more glad to have done.

Good luck to you!!

You are always so nice to other women and such an *** with me” is not a method of husband criticism that you learned from your counsellor, right?

“I feel concerned that you don’t think much of me when you are so friendly with other women and don’t include me in the conversation or complement me in front of others. I feel it would be insulting for me to flirt with other men with you sitting there, and not to say anything about how happy I am to be attached to you and that some other girl will have to be lucky enough to find them, because I’m taken. It is nice to be nice, but if you give them better attention than you give me, you aren’t clear that you’re not looking to dump your old lady for a new model.”

Don’t make this about the old girlfriend and how he treated her. He can’t change that. Make this about how he is treating you right now, compared to how you want him to treat you and how you see yourself treating him. Then talk…

Remember you have a child with him. Children need both parents: I pray for that child’s sake that the two of you can figure out how to move on from this. Also remember all this happened 2 years ago. So while you have every right to be angry, you need to take care not to allow your anger to destroy what you have built together. Good luck, I wish your marriage and your child well…

Because I have a difficult time expressin myself, I find it easier to write it out. Today I sent him a message telling him what a difficult time I was having, etc. When I got home, I showered and got into bed as I was feeling blah. He asked if we could please go to Starbucks and then for a drive to talk. He said he knows I have a hard time expressing myself but that we really need to learn to talk. We went and I explained (with much difficulty) why I have felt insecure all these years. I told him that I always felt he was with me simply because I became pregnant and that he may not have left her had I not been. He assured me that he did not regret his choice, he loved me and our children and would never change that. He said he felt nothing for her, etc. He asked me what I wanted him to do to work on trust. Because I don’t know that myself, I told him I would think about it and let him know at our counseling session on Wednesday. He said he understood how it would feel had I done that to him. I felt that he was sincere in the things he said. We agreed we would do pur best to put the past behind us and let our counselor help us on trust.

I am open to ideas/solutions on rebuilding trust that I can discuss at counseling.
