HV, sex and hell

I am concerned with a good, all-powerful God allowing people, whom he created, loved, saved by His Son and knew would be damned, to go to hell for all eternity.

I cannot understand how a God who tolerates this can be considered good and merciful.

Please explain.

Partial answers are free will and peope choose hell.
But providence exists and grace.
God is a just God and there is no mercy without justice. And no justice without mercy. Free will is a gift of freedom from God. He loves us so much that He created us to be free. He doesn’t want to force us to be with Him for all eternity so we are free to choose to not want to live with Him for all eternity.

Although the encyclical, Humane Vitae, was said by the vatican not to be an infallible statement, they failed to note that the encyclical restated what had always and evrey where been taught by the Church. That means, my friends that the ban on contraception is an infallible teaching.

The only reason there was any hesitation in the 60’s about the matter had to do with “the pill”. Significant numbers of people, including some of the hierarchy were not all that sure that “the pill” was an un-natural or artificial means of birth control. So a commission was set up to study the matter. Paul VI, guided by the Holy Spirit, made the decision that the pill was un-natural and therefore not an acceptable means of birth control. A change in teaching on the use of the condom, the coil, the diaphram, and coitus interruptus were never under any consideration of being changed. I don’t think many people today are aware of this.

Whether many of today’s Catholic practicioners of ABC are subjectively living in sin for which they are culpable is an open question. Only their confessor, if they ever go, will be able to determine that answer.

larsegarots, you can kick all you want and talk what is reasonable, but that does not change by one iota, what the Catholic Church teaches. It is a matter that is infallible and irreformable. If you wish to ignore that, it is your responsibility and your salvation which is at stake. Choose wisely! 🙂

I agree that what the Catholic Church teaches is not always reasonable.
It is a matter that is infallible
Infallible means that ALL statements or teachings made by the church are absolutely true. I disagree with that suggestion.
…your salvation which is at stake. Choose wisely! 🙂
I am very comfortable and trust in God completely.

You wrote I am very comfortable and trust in God completely.

Do you consider you are predestined for salvation?

So does one pick a confessor who believes contraception is OK? I believe they are easy to find.

Does this mean He loves me so much it is OK with him if I choose hell? With original sin our passions incline us to evil; our will and intellect are darkened. What does grace do? What is divine providence? Is God all mighty? Is he able to get me, a sinner, into heaven?

In his *Apologia Pro Vita Sua *Cardinal Newman wrote:
isolating me from the objects which surrounded me, in confirming me in my mistrust of the reality of material phenomena, and making me rest in the thought of two and two only absolute and luminously self-evident beings, myself and my Creator.
For each of us there are two important things, the self and God. If I end up in hell for all eternity, I do not think I will consider God just or merciful. I do not think I am all bad.

No, I do not believe that God has predestined for some people to go to heaven or predestined for some people to go to hell.
If I end up in hell for all eternity, I do not think I will consider God just or merciful. I do not think I am all bad.
This makes sense to me. Nothing someone could possibly accomplish in maybe 80 years on this planet could “deserve” eternal ANYthing- good or bad.

Noel Fitz, God gives us enough graces to help us choose to do good and resist our temptations toward evil. It is not easy but Jesus has also given us the sacraments where we receive even more grace to fight the fight. It is our choice to use these graces or not. God is all mighty. Jesus will judge us when you die and He will decide whether we will to come to the heavenly banquet with Him, the Bridegroom for eternity. Read Revelations chapter 21. It’s beautiful!
