Every time I hear the hymn “On Eagles’ Wings”, I always get emotional. Even when I imagine the song I get emotional as well. To me, it’s one of the most beautiful hymns ever. It got me wondering . . . what hymns have that same affect on you guys/gals?

Requiem aeternam is a great one. I can’t forget about Ave Maria (of course a favorite of all Catholic).

For me its Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.
Every time I hear it, it brings me peace.

There is an old folk hymn that gets me everytime… Lets all Gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful the river… I don’t know why but it touches my heart. :harp:

Amazing Grace. Gives me great joy because I know what my heart has been thorugh to get where it is now ;). Blind but now I see…but it wasn’t easy :clapping:

Now when I was a child going through Catechism class we had what they called a Hootenanny Mass where ladies played guitar to the hymns. This really brought me to the church and kept me there in spite of what people say about Only traditional Mass is appropriate. As a kid what did I know - I liked the guitar. They did a song …which really helped me to Love our Lord. Hosana, Hosana, Hosaaanna in the Highest… LOVE IT! :bounce:

Okay one more it is a Christmas Carol… Three Ships. I get great joy from most any version of this song. I saw three ships come sailing in …on Christmas day…on Christmas day. I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas day in the morning…makes me wanna dance dance dance. :egyptian:

Love you all…forgive the typos.

I sincerely believe that how Filipinos sing liturgical music can save the Novus Ordo liturgy from irreverent worship. For example, this is the Magnificat in Tagalog being sung as an entrance hymn during Mass: youtube.com/watch?v=NesBpooGOaM And yes, not only are the choir singing, it’s the WHOLE CONGREGATION that you can hear singing. That is the usual during Holy Mass in the Philippines. How can we do this? By having less than 100 total songs in our liturgical musical choices 😃 And also we love singing!

I love this one, and I loved it for years before I became Catholic. It means more to me now. At one time I thought that the line “He will give to all the faithful His own self for heavenly food” meant that, at death or at a final judgment, I might see God (thus figuratively eating heavenly food). Now the promise no longer seems so far into the future; I sometimes sing it before or after Mass.

I also like some of Charles Wesley’s hymns, especially “Come O Thou Traveler Unknown” and “Jesus Lover of My Soul” (to the tune Aberystwyth - the other tunes this commonly gets put to get on my nerves.)

Of course, “Ave Maria” and anything by Mozart is great too. 😃

Yes God is truly great and Has given us Heavenly food.
I have it on cd and I often put it on in my car on my way to Mass or Eucharistic adoration. It puts me in the right frame of mind.

The following hymns (as opposed to motets, anthems etc) always move me greatly:

Lo! He comes with clouds desending
O little town of Bethlehem
As with Gladness men of Old
My Song is love unknown
Lord Jesus think on me
When I survey the wondrous cross
Come down, O Love Divine
Hail to the Lord who comes
For Mary Mother of our God
Sing we of the Blessed Mother
Ye Holy Angels bright
Christ is made the sure foundation
In our day of thanksgiving
Glory to thee my God this night
Bread of Heaven on thee we feed
Sweet Sacrament Divine
Abide with me
Jerusalem the Golden
All People that on earth do dwell
All Hail the power of Jesus name
Firmly I beleive and Truly
As pants the heart
King of Glory, King of Peace
How shall I sing that majesty?
How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
Jesus, love of my Soul
Lead us heavenly Father, Lead us
Love Divine, all loves excelling

to name but a few.

Oh, those are all titles of songs! I thought they were the lines of one song, and it seemed pretty good for a while…🙂

Oh, so many!

Here are two, oddly enough, with the same title:

“The Love of God,” by Frederick Lehman. The video clip is only the 3rd verse; many of the folks you see are giants of Southern Gospel music who have since died. I do this one as a solo on euphonium and ocarina (not at the same time), with a pre-recorded accompaniment.

“The Love of God,” by Vep Ellis

What can I say? I love harmony, and I don’t mind having my emotions aroused occasionally.
