What is up with this pope? you’d think he’s trying to bring the church into the 21st century or something 😉

Pope Francis is the most positive force in the Catholic Church since the days of the Vatican 2 reforms in the 60’s
I disagree with this evaluation…Each of our popes since Vat II have been equally positive.
Each has been the personal choice of our Majesty Lord and King, Jesus Christ.

Peace
James

So - you believe that Christ our King, through the Holy Spirit, made a poor choice of Vicar in this case?

Peace
James
The *cardinals *elected him. We believe that they were inspired by the Holy Spirit in doing so. But God didn’t point a finger at him and tell them: “this is the man.”

I have noticed that you keep repeating the above statement in order to shut down all discussion. What are you afraid of? We are not disobeying God by discussing the pope, as well as Jorge the man. 🤷

Unfortunately, I think he’s going the wrong way. We need more of a hardliner who will stand up and promote the truth. While he’s not denying the truth at all, he’s making it much easier for people to distort Catholic teaching. We already have bishops and priests who preach that it doesn’t matter what you do, you’re going to go to heaven anyway. All this will do is encourage more false teaching in the church and they will be taken for the truth.
People are going to distort the Catholic teaching regardless who is in power.

Those of us who know better know what the Pope is telling us, and the ones that wish to distort what he says will continue to do just that much like they do when they take Bible quotes out of context.

The problem is not that he is making it easier. He isn’t. It is that there are just people who want to distort the truth to justify their actions or further an agenda.

Good - I’m glad that we agree…The Holy Spirit inspired the Cardinals to elect this man.
To me that is the same as God pointing a finger at him.

My intent is not to shut down discussion. Rather it is simply to help us keep in mind who we are talking and who put him where he is.
I don’t believe that I have ever said that we are disobeying God by discussing the pope. If I have given you that impression, I do apologize.

It just seems some are so busy taking about what the pope did or did not say or how he said it - worried about how the “world” might interpret it - that there seems little thought given to what God might be trying to tell us, the faithful, through this man who is Christ’s Vicar.
To me - this is what should be more important. What is Christ, through Francis, telling us.

Does the church actually teach this? That Jesus personally chooses each pope? Or even that every pope is the elected due to the inspiration on the Holy Spirit?

You’re wrong.

The ultra-conservatives who claim he isn’t hard enough are obviously missing the message he is trying to convey through his actions. Humility.

He has not done anything to blur the lines of truth. The media has. And to put that on him is unfair to the man.

He’s definitely contributing to my desire to return to the Church. 👍

A) Cardinals enter the conclave and pray fervently for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
B) The Whole Church - in communion with the Cardinals prays likewise - to pick who God wishes.
C) Scripture tells us that where tow or more are gathered and ask for something in His name, Jesus is there and will grant that which is asked for.

Given this - how can we think that the person selected is NOT Christ’s own choice? 🤷

Peace
James

Please do not think my comments in anyway reflect on my opinion of our Holy Father.

But there is still free will involved. And man’s sinful nature. I only point this our because I think your statements are a little too strong. Christ promises of the church and church teaching does not go that far. But I admit I might be wrong on this point.

Because those days were so much more positive than other days… blog.adw.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/mattend.jpg

Is it not possible that Christ says, " I am in your midst, I trust your decision, and I will protect whoever you choose from error’"?

Because of history? Because the Cardinals have free will? Because Cardinal Ratzinger once said “There are too many contrary instances of popes the Holy Spirit obviously would not have picked!”

Understood.

Perhaps my comments are strong…certainly possible…
Yet I stand by them if for no other reason than it is good to reflect on and remind ourselves that the Holy Father is not some politician or minor government official.
He is the Vicar of Christ and head of the Church militant.
Is it not possible that Christ says, " I am in your midst, I trust your decision, and I will protect whoever you choose from error’"?
Certainly this is true - and why wouldn’t it be since those making the decision are guided by the Holy Spirit and by Christ in their midst.
It’s really the same thing that I said.

All valid points, I am just too idle and in the mood to be a little argumentative.

I would say it is better to just reflect on the holy office he holds and the meaning if that, than to have to rely on speculation about how he was chosen for that office. He is , as you say, Christ’s Vicar on earth. That should be plenty to reflect upon. It does not matter how he was chosen.
