Or you could say the disadvantage of understanding the Faith, once delivered to the saints, is accepting divinely, un-inspired writings AS inspired writings and incorporating them into the Faith, not testing them BY the original source, Holy Writ, God’s Written Word. It’s not only a disadvantage but dangerous!
Ozzie,

This is all fine and dandy but no Catholic has done this so give it up.

It’s so clear from Jesus, St. Paul and James that faith is not a verbal statement. It is a life lived. Faith is doing - feeding hungry, loving, being merciful and kind.
I should correct this to say that actually faith is not only a verbal or interior assent. The verbal statement and interior assent are important (e.g. we say the Profession of Faith at mass) however faith also includes actions and moral living, i.e. a life that pleases God.

Philthy:
You have nothing against the Crucifix - you have something against the people who wear them - Catholics. Did you not realize that WE are the object of your rejection - not the crucifix
No Phil, I have nothing against the “people” who wear them. I do take issue with many of the soteriological doctrines propagated by the RCC, but it’s those doctrines that I reject, never the people.

I’ve gone back and read the posts you requested, however, I cannot give you multiple choice answers because they’re asked based on your own perception of the cross, not mine. But… suddenly, for some reason, I’ve become weary with this discussion. Not with you, mind you, nor the other participants on this thread; we’ve had a good show of it, haven’t we!!! As others have stated, “this is a very long thread.” But I feel I’ve said all I can say, which, I’m sure in your mind, Phil, has not been much. I would have liked to have been able to penetrate your mind with the glorious, even liberating, Biblical truth of eternal security for ALL who put their faith in the Person and work of Jesus Christ, but it’s obvious that’s it’s not going to happen through me, if ever at all. So this is my “swan song” for this thread, my friend. I’ll be back on the forum somewhere again, sometime, so beware (wink).

Thanks for the dialogue: Pax, Cubby, exrc, Catherine, even RBushlow. Sorry for leaving some of your posts without response (Pax, Cubby), I know the effort it takes to submit them…so believe me, I appreciate the effort.

Catch you later, guys…

Philthy:
You should have nothing against a Crucifix. It is not intended to be a theological nuance. It is simply a profession of faith.
Correct Philthy,

If anyone actually tries to downplay the resurrection by downgrading a Crucifix then shame on him. The Crucifixtion was the reason Jesus became flesh. “For God so Loved the World that He gave His only begotten son…” He suffered and died for us. Why should this not be remembered with our Crucifixes?

So yes Philthy, I agree. Protestants give us their crazy reasons when the real reason is because the Crucifix reminds them of Us.👋

Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie. You continue to follow your erroneous preconceived notions. Catholics do not accept the Church Fathers as Holy Writ (which has been explained to you numerous times). The Christians of the immediate post-apostolic era give use a pristine example of the Faith passed on immediately from the Apostles. This is the best source to see the unadulterated teachings and beliefs received directly from those that Jesus the Christ sent forth. This is how you can find what the actual Faith handed on directly from the Apostles was. Why is it important to know what the faith handed on directly from Christ and the Apostles is? For one thing, it might help to discern which is the Church founded by Jesus Christ. Of course if you would prefer to deny or be blind to it, then you might consider it dangerous.

May the Holy Spirit enter your heart, give you an outpouring of His Grace, and give you eyes to see and ears to hear the Truth and the Church which Jesus founded.

May the Peace of Christ be with you always.

Oh my gosh…is this thread still going on? Its like a bad soap opera…you can leave it for a while and then pick up later and it is the same ol’ stuff. Where are we now in this little drama?

Why Can someone explain why Ozzie said “even RBushlow”? I am not sure what he is implying here? Thanks.

Hi Catherine, I hadn’t. I used the link you posted and heard small bits of the 1st one.

I am aware of the Journey Home series on EWTN.

🙂

Catherine S,

I have heard a number of talks by Alex Jones and he and his story are quite moving. He and the other converts that are former Protestant ministers have been a great gift to the Church. Their testimonies have brought an untold number of souls to the truth of the Catholic teaching.

I have to download an update to my Real Player to listen to the tapes you’ve linked to before I can check to see if I’ve heard them. I get a great deal of joy from this kind of material. Thanks a lot.

Catherine S,

I was able to listen to the first taped show link and I had heard that one already and it was great. I can’t seem to connect on the second one and get it to play. Steve Ray has a great video tape with Alex Jones. These people are really in love with the Lord and are an inspiration to us all. There’s a lot of truth in the statement, “converts make the best catholics.” The call to holiness is very well developed in Alex Jones presentation and gives me pause to think and pray for God’s grace.

👍 They certainly are in love with the Lord and an inspiration to us all! True gift to the Church!! Jesus Christ is renewing His Church in our day…the more I see the more gratitude I feel. Catherine

Catherine S,

Thank you. I pray that you and your family have a Happy and Holy Christmas as well. May the same be true for all of those that participate in these forums 👍

The last link worked. I think I need to do something to my system to allow the others to work.

That is wonderful. Let us all pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit and continued conversions like that in shown in the links.

Peace be with you also.
