ANSWER FROM ATHEIST
In terms of self-gain it would not be. But not every Atheist is interested in self-gain. There is rationale for an Atheist beyond serving oneself.

I think we answered that already.

I didn’t need to be told that (though I occasionally need to remind myself :o ), but I am sure there are many Catholics reading who are happy to hear you addressing Smith on these matters.
If you are here to learn about Catholism I have my doubts BlaineTog is a Catholic but am conviced not a practicing one that does not know his faith.

I have never and I say again never heard anyone in the Catholic Church in the east, west, north, and south say that our Blessed Mother Mary was a Saint.

Mary was assumed in heaven at the Assumption. Was totally without sin

Calling Mary a Saint would be like calling Jesus a saint.

He also thinks John the Baptist and Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse was without sin.

A Catholic or at least a knowlegable one for this is basic 7 year old child teachiing knows better than what he is spewing.

But are they practicing Catholics, and I profess I have used logic and reason for your answer was you don’t need evidence as you are a disbeliever and without seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, the evidence is not good enough for you to believe unless Extraordinary.

I used logic and was given illogical answers such as 10 apostles witnessing the resurrection had hallucinated the same hallucination, even ate, drank, and talked with the Hallucenation and went to their death for a lie. Sorry but the atheists answers are illogical.

Reason-- 350 prophesies fulfilled. Well anyone can do that was the answer from the Atheists
well not reasonable

This is only a couple of the logical evidences and reasonable evidence I have given and was returned by illogical answers and unreasonable answers.

I misspoke, you said suffering adds to your glory.
I thought you got more ‘glory’ after death.
Please note that I absolutely have no glory now that I can speak of, and that I believe that if I had any, it would only be evident to me after the time of my passing from this world. Also, it is not the kind of glory commonly understood in the human, earthly sense; it is glory that comes about from sacrificial love for God.
Your god only has his glory revealed by the suffering of his creatures.
Not my words - I definitely didn’t say only. I believe His glory is revealed everywhere, and one way is through willful suffering.
I wouldn’t say that I am afraid of it. I do avoid it.
Do you think there is any merit to pain? Can anything positive come of it?
He could not have forgiven us without his drama? How unusual for an all-powerful being.
Not unusual for a Being Who has choice. He came to us where we’re at in our humanity. He knows what we’re about.
Sounds like this character likes pain.
Are you strongly opposed to someone suffering out of love for you?

Regarding Him liking the pain he endured during His Passion, refer to these verses:

Matthew 26: 37- 44.
Matthew 27: 46.
Luke 22: 41-44
The point is that he didn’t ‘die for your sins’ if he isn’t really dead.
That might be a point, except for the fact that Christian belief holds that Jesus died a real death, was buried, descended to the dead, and rose again on the third day.

There are many instances of UFO Abductees claiming that they have been abducted.

See here, here and here.

Also, the Colares incident.

And, away from the UFO aspect - what about the splitting of the Moon?
I’m not a big UFO fan – it’s just not my thing. And I only have a certain amount of time I’m going to dedicate to reading wiki pages about abductions. But at a very quick glance, I am baffled by how you can draw any parallels between this and the apostles’ testimony.

As for the splitting of the moon, did any of the witnesses die for what they had seen?
And then there is this, although I am sure you believe it is legitimate.
Correct. I certainly see no reason to believe that thousands of people had a spontaneous hallucination.
And given that natural law is so consistent, one could argue that it is more probable that these disciples were hallucinating rather than witnessing Christ rising.
I don’t understand how you came to that conclusion. How have you fixed a probability to either event? I would tend to say that since humanity has never observed a shared hallucination of this sort, that a shared hallucination must be vastly improbable. It must be less than one in several billion, simply from the fact that it doesn’t happen every single day to some group of people on the planet.

So how do you determine the probability of Jesus rising from the dead?

I have never seen an atheist in the military when one has the possibility of entering or esspecially in combat.
That’s maybe because we are too wise and nice to shoot each others’ brains out for Country, Führer or God.
But apart from my daily dose of sarcasm, check this out: maaf.info/

What I am saying is that your life is first and last.
Yes.
There is no other life that matters as without your life,
Interesting that you know better than me what matters to me and what not. Don’t you think that is a wee bit arrogant?
life has no meaning.
Oh, I assure you my life has a lot of meaning, surely not the one you seek. If this life has no meaning without a god why should it have meaning with one? Has the afterlife any meaning?

Would you say it right in front of the murdering parent?
No.
Would you wait until you were away from them before expressing your opinion about the killers belief to your children?
Yes. I wouldn’t express my opinions to my relatives in front of my children. I would keep it separate, but I would let each party know my views. I have a great distaste for putting an adult down in front of children, and vice versa. There is no need for it, as long as both parties know where I stand. Either way, I wouldn’t attack the person or their beliefs; I would explain why I disagree, with love and charity.
If you say that the wrong beliefs this family has mean that they have to let their kid die, right in front of the offending parent, then I think it is not ‘respecting their beliefs’, if you only say those things behind their back, I also don’t feel that shows respect.
See above. There are ways to disagree and still maintain some respect.
Perhaps we have a different idea of respect in this context.
I am sorry. What I meant was the way you might bite your tongue when faced with a JW who is letting their child die. I meant that kind of pretending, because I can’t imagine anyone being *pleased * with that result.Do you bow your head and appear to agree when they decide to let the child die, or do you tell them that their belief is wrong (which would not be ‘respecting their beliefs’ in my view), or do you tell them that you respect their belief and say goodbye to their child?
A horrible question, I know, but I want to see how far this ‘respect for belief’ really goes.
I think there are different levels of respect, depending on the urgency of the situation.
Clumsy writing is all, sorry about that. I was assuming you were of the opinion that abortion is wrong because of the value of life (approximately the catholic position).
You assume correct.
If you share this opinion, would you, as a doctor, save their child against their wishes? If they were not there in the hospital, for example. Would you (again pretending you are a doctor with the power to save the child) stop another doctor from giving a transfusion because you knew that the parents had this belief?
Where I draw the line when it comes to another’s beliefs is when it directly puts me in immediate danger of compromising my moral convictions and beliefs. The scenario you propose is definitely on the extreme end of that. If I were a doctor with some power to intervene - Yes, I would give the transfusion to save a life, the same as I would try to save the life of an aborted baby that was still showing signs of life in a garbage can of the hospital. Mind you, I wouldn’t be working there in the first place if abortions were being offered there.

Wow time out… lets be clear if you did believe in God you’d be the stupid one to not do as he asks, that is If he asked you to kill another. But thats not reality because our God is a loving God; Sixth Commandment:‘You shall not murder.’

As for War itself and todays War it is absolutely a big lie and I do not support the killing of innocent Kids women and men. Religion I believe whether you are Muslim or Christian has nothing to do with it like they want you to believe it is just an excuse.

and the million dollar question that rationale is?
Putting the value of someone else or other people beyond your own.

There’s one.

Altruism, my friend.

c659smith:
Giving all those good works without going to His glory is worthless on the part of the person doing it.
It may help society, the earth, and others but on the part of the person doing it there is an agenda and any agenda without God is
Not all ‘agendas’ are insincere, or of evil motive.

c659smith:
This is the answer I was lookiing from the other Atheists on the site. When asked the question why would an atheist give his life for another. This is what I meant by an Atheist being selfish and having an agenda. For if it is Man serving Man then it is self serving and is selfish. For we are not here to give glory to eachother and to serve eachother in the name of Man but the name of God.
Why is serving man inherently less selfish than serving God? Why do you serve God yourself?

In any case, I think I’ve made my point to the atheists: not all Catholics blatantly ignore logic, reason, and the structure of a valuable discussion!
Absolutely. Many do not. I have a lot of reason to be comtemptible to many Atheists as well as I do self-righteous theists (of any religion). I mean the Atheists that throw immature insults (often to an extent much more disgusting than many I have seen from Theists).

They are disgusting and an utter embarrassment.

Why? What is the difference between 2 delusions and 10?

If you’re referring to about dieing, then I refer you to .Heaven’s Gate

Richard Dawkins (yes, him!) had an excellent answer to the above. I will try to find out.

A hallucination (shared or otherwise) is more common than a breach of natural law and therefore unless I contend them to be dishonest, I conclude they were delusional.

Testimony shows either dishonesty or conviction. If we take an admittance of a ‘vision’ (religious or otherwise) as truthful, then we see many examples of visions.

You know your a funny guy coming out here and since your such a smart guy being so sure that what people claim are delusions if I had your way of thinking I wouldn’t believe a word anybody said to me.

Why is it your so sure about Delusions… I think that is an insult to peoples opinions.

People claim a lot of extraordinary things. I do not insist everyone is deluded, only certain things that sound highly improbable, unrealistic or contradictory.

I’m not ‘so sure’ about anything.

Maybe try out going to church or speaking to God asking him to show you the way. It will help you.

I don’t believe in God to start off with. That makes absolutely no sense.

You can lead a Horse to water, but you cant make him drink it. Great saying.

Very nice you understand the analogy heres a virtual high five. Well if you’d say ask him to show you the way I guarantee he would. Just don’t say I want you to show me a miracle haha because it is written you shall not test God.

Why is belief in God so important to God? Can’t someone life their entire life without believing in God and still make this world a better place? Why is it so important that someone confess that they believe Jesus is God?
