I think it is one of the top ten. Why don’t you try answering it instead of simply dismissing it?
I believe it was addressed ad nauseum in an earlier thread. The problem is that the question makes a positive assertion that has not to date been proven.

Assuming that indeed there have been absolutely zero miraculous amputee healings since St. Anthony, the answer is: Because God chooses not to.

The answer is : Because God doesn’t exist !! 🙂

Armor of God.

May I ask you a question off the general topic of this thread. I know you are a intelligent person. If you do not want to answer, simply ignore it. 🙂

What is your opinion on E.V.P’s.

les.

Surely you have heard that we are not to test the Lord our God?

That said, I’d like to add that I do firmly believe that He has an excellent sense of humor, and justice…

Haven’t you ever noticed the unusual nuances in life, that seem to be just what we need, at just the right time? And (this is very important!) sometimes it might not be exactly what we want, but more what we need - like a blessing in disguise.

God leaves it entirely up to us to decide - Christ Himself said there would be those who would not believe even if they saw miracles with their own eyes, and He was right. How many people yelled “Crucify Him!” even though they had known of His many miraculous works?

Whichever god you are worshiping deliberately has no demonstrated effect on the real world. There are stories, no more. Or (the simpler version) he does not exist except in the minds of believers.
Your god fails any test put to him, if he does exist. I was just looking at the moon through a telescope the other day, and it has not yet been Terra-formed.
Surely you have heard that we are not to test the Lord our God?
A convenient way to hide non-existence.
I have a question for you.
How do I, a non-believer, tell the difference between an invented, imaginary god and your god?
That said, I’d like to add that I do firmly believe that He has an excellent sense of humor, and justice…
Justice, eh…such as the part where people are instructed to stone to death anyone who works on the sabbath?
Haven’t you ever noticed the unusual nuances in life, that seem to be just what we need, at just the right time?
You mean like when a church gets hit by lightning?
And (this is very important!) sometimes it might not be exactly what we want, but more what we need - like a blessing in disguise.
Of course, if you stop pretending a god is pulling all these things off, you would realize that there are many incidences of good, and bad luck.
If your god is responsible for you gaining a bit of knowledge about the world through strife, isn’t he also responsible for world war 2? You can’t give him credit for all the good and forget the bad.
Your god likes war. How is that worthy of worship?
God leaves it entirely up to us to decide - Christ Himself said there would be those who would not believe even if they saw miracles with their own eyes, and He was right.
How do you know he said this, when the writings didn’t start until decades after his death and supposed rising into heaven?
How many people yelled “Crucify Him!” even though they had known of His many miraculous works?
No-one knows, since there are only stories of this event in the bible, and it is not a trustworthy document - there are far too many plain falsehoods in it.

A, I could not help but be intrigued by the discussions on this page. I agree; the universe is a better bible. What have you learned about the universe?
By the way, I left this discussion because of my anger and I have returned to see how much I have matured. I am sure that I have left the door open for any comments.

I have learned that making careful observations of the world around me that I can make more effective predictions about the future.
Tough question, though.

Blaming God for what Cain did to Abel is not right…

Man’s inhumanity to man is not His idea - sin entered into this world due to our disobedience to our Creator. We don’t have to believe this if we don’t want to. And for now, you don’t. That’s His gift to us of free will, and you certainly have the right to decide for yourself what you do and do not believe.

However, since you do not believe in God, please refrain from blaming Him for the problems of the world. For those of us that do strive to be obedient to Him, we understand that there is another force at work in our midst - and one of its greatest accomplishments is getting many to disbelieve God’s, Christ’s, and its own existence.

Unfortunately, quite successfully.

PS: Even though you don’t believe in Him, A don’t ever hesitate to ask Him for help if you need to - He is always there for us.

I agree that blaming an imaginary figure is not right. If you do believe in the Yahweh/Jehova/Jesus version of god though, then you are believing in an all-knowing, all-powerful creator. That sounds pretty responsible to me.
Man’s inhumanity to man is not His idea - sin entered into this world due to our disobedience to our Creator.
According to the myths, sin entered this world due to someone elses disobedience. The Yahweh of the bible, however, decided to punish all humans for all time. Not very fair of him, punishing his creations for being exactly as he created them.
We don’t have to believe this if we don’t want to. And for now, you don’t.
Just what is it that you found so compelling that you were led to belief?
That’s His gift to us of free will, and you certainly have the right to decide for yourself what you do and do not believe.
Not quite true. Can you simply decide to believe that you are financially well-off when you have no money and no prospects? Can you decide to believe in Bog, the god your god worships?
I can’t make myself believe something so laughably false in so many ways. I think most people are only able to because they don’t think critically about their religion or their bible.
However, since you do not believe in God, please refrain from blaming Him for the problems of the world.
I don’t blame god, I think I could fairly blame religion for many of them, though.

If you believe in one imaginary figure whose name you are afraid to utter, then why not two?
Can’t you see how insane this is?
Why not use your god’s right name? Is it too embarrassing after the rottenness he pulled in the old testament stories?
  • and one of its greatest accomplishments is getting many to disbelieve God’s, Christ’s, and its own existence.
Who is telling you these stories? Is it a church that profits hugely when people believe, by any chance?

He is your invisible, imaginary friend in the sky.

Well, since you do not believe in God, I am assuming that you do not believe in Heaven…

I am also assuming that you believe in death. And it amazes me that someone who is so upset that some believe in God, would waste his (you’re a he, right?) limited time on earth (even if we live to be 120, you are aware we’re not here forever) spinning his wheels on this forum.

You do seem to be a thoughtful person - you’ve put a lot of thought into your point of view - but you are wasting your time here.

Now, repeat after me…

tick, tock.

See? Back to square one. That’s why it’s a bad question. A non-believer expects a god to act in a certain way, while a believer knows that the ways of God are mysterious and that we will never fully understand Him in this life.
And never the twain shall meet.

in the end, belief in gods probably serves humanity as a whole. while i believe that religions are ultimately an evil (the desert ones anyway: christianity, judaism, islam) and at best a social club, they probably serve a purpose in holding back the hordes from running amuck.

theists’ seem to believe that without belief in gods their brethren would turn to mayhem. they themselves reason that if there is no supernatural threat of punishment then what is the purpose of morals and proper behavior?

atheists and agnostics on the other hand being, i feel, a higher thinking bunch don’t believe that. the proof? very few atheists are in prison. the majority of murderers, rapists and thieves are believers.

we simply hold that morality, just as the invention of gods, comes from within us. evolution has cheated a little in order to sustain this morality by giving us the desire to create gods in our own image.

God is not created in our image - we’re created in His…

Funny you should say that though - I know many an atheist who expects the rest of the world (or their own small one thereof) to worship the very ground they walk on, whilst they cheat on their spouse, cheat in their business dealings (after all, rules don’t apply if you don’t get caught) all in the name of “open-mindedness” and doing “what’s right” and “what feels good”…

The hypocritical irony would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic.
