And why worship at all? Would your energies not be better spent providing for your community?

Thousands of humans have been searching for their gods for thousands of years and not one shred of evidence in favour of one or another has been collected.

Is god hiding, or just indifferent?
I feel better when I pray, and more able to help others since I’m less selfish. That’s evidence and proof – for me – that my God helps.

Even if I wasn’t sure, if I said it could just be self-hypnosis or something, wouldn’t really matter as long as it works.

I guess then the real question for you is ‘does it do more harm or good?’. I hope you investigate that question as if it were most important to understand.

I was out ‘on the land’ today with some good friends and tea and just wanted to share a picture I got. Beautiful stuff, mushrooms!

It does more good. Like, I am normally kind of selfish and spend money on my toys and having fun. Kind of quick tempered and prone to carry resentments. Lustful. Lots of things.

Prayer helps me fight against all that, and overcome it a lot of the time.

Sounds similar to some folks claims for meditation. No evidence for god there, though (or for the efficacy of prayer in changing personality, but that would be a tall order…)

God did reveal Himself in the flesh. Various secular historians of the past affirmed that He does exist. Even if i have never seen Him in the flesh today, i do believe in His existence. The difference between you and me is that i have something which you don’t have and constantly deny - And that is Faith. I have faith in both science and God. You probably believe in one thing only - Science.

I beleive that you are looking for the truth and that is why you are on the Catholic Forum:
I also beleive that you are searching for answers because you are feeling unsettled on the inside and you are searching for some kind of inner peace.
I would suggest that maybe you should just try once to pray and ask God for guidance.
I will pray for you, but to tell you the truth, God would really like to hear from you.
Wishing you inner peace and answers for your unsettling soul.

It is evidence to say either way: God works, or meditation/self-hypnosis/etc. works.

Just not proof, either way.

Good guess, I can understand how you would have trouble seeing this, but I don’t have ‘faith’ in either. If in doubt, I will check.

If you look carefully through these 5 long threads, you will see that I have tried this. Nothing.
Why don’t you try praying for something, and we will test the results. Pray for the moon to be terraformed tonight, and if your god can’t do it, I am going to suggest that it is all in your head.

I will not pray for the moon to change tonight, but I will pray that Our Lord enlighten you and give you the peace of mind and faith you are looking for.
May God Bless you and be with you always

Well, here we are again, and while I don’t mind the conversation wandering, I have a different sort of question to add to the mix.

Has anyone tried the ‘dvorak’ keyboard layout? I have been training with it for a week now, and my typing speed is already half way to my previous (qwerty) speed.

As always, I will be happy to answer anything I can about being an atheist, too.
hello ^^. well i do not worship anything or anyone, i do know god is there because i feel his energy. that’s all the proof i have of this god or all the others, souls (oh boy how souls screw with my head) or even those that are empty vessels (scary). they are however rare. i feel energy, but i can not see or hear. thats how i see the spiritual world. but its not for me to show you or tell you god is real, that is for you to find out for yourself if you so choose. i will tell this, if you are not open-minded and have the heart to know, you’ll never have the right answer for yourself.
or you can be happy with your life as the ways it is ^
^. its up to you. i am taoist, it allows me to know the higher spirits, but i do not have to worship. i hope that helps. may you find your path.

Thanks. I saw it on a bumper sticker and then found it on the internet. There are several variations on the theme. 😃
however that yin yang is not buddhism thats the wheel (u can look it up on the net) it goes more towards taoism.

What makes you think that there is a god at all? I have seen no reason to think there is one…
Hello A
I’m new to this forum and so far I am absolutely enjoying it. Someone like you really piques my interest. I totally love the fact that you even bother coming onto a Catholic forum, but that’s beside the point. You say you’re an atheist, and I pray you won’t stay that way for life.

I once read a book that was called “I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be an Atheist” I never forgot that title. Of course, it was a Christian book, though not a Catholic one, but written simply and to the point. The writer stated that he had to believe in God because the alternative was too frightening to him. He felt just ‘what if’ when you die, you find out there was a God after all? He said his faith in being an atheist failed him. It wasn’t strong enough. I had to laugh at that.

I am a simple person. Not at all filled with knowledge as so many are. I love those that are because I learn from them. But, speaking in very simple terms, let me tell you why I believe in God. Reason tells me there has to be. With the intricate workings of our bodies, how in the world could we have evolved into what we are. Who can explain the workings of the human brain? Not even science, and I doubt they ever will. Think of ‘the mind.’ What is it? Really, what is it? Is it tangible? Does anyone know. Can the mind be seen by the naked eye? Yet, we have one. How can this be explained?

Let me tell you a little joke and I think you’ll enjoy this. Once a scientist and God were having a discussion. The scientist told God I’m going to create a man. God said, very good, show me. So the scientist bent down to pick up some dirt to create man, and God said “Oh no, that is my dirt. Go and find your own.” I love that story.

In fact that is the point I’m making to you. Sometime in your solitude, think real hard, which I’m sure you might have, but really think about things. Don’t you ever wonder how did this entire cosmos come into being? From the big bang? Could be. But that’s not proof that there’s no God.

There is a powerful entity that we know as God. How do I know? To quote John Edwards, “because I do.” Right to the point. I do not condone or approve of John Edwards, but I have seen him a few times doing what he does.

Science is cloning now. Good for them. Why God is letting them, I do not know. But this is similar to the scientist making a human being story above. When the scientist makes this clone, where will he get all the minute, and microscopic matter that he needs to do this? Again, the scientist story. In fact, everything always goes back to the scientist story. That’s why I love it so much. It is MY PROOF OF GOD.

I am praying so much for you. I’m sure you’re seeking proof. Wouldn’t we all love that! I guess God does not want that for us. He wants us to love him and go to Him sight unseen. He sure is mysterious.

Something else that might interest you if you really do want some kind of, if not exactly proof, at least a very big hint, I’d say go to your local major bookstore and find youself a copy or two of people that have had the near death experience. I do not know what the church’s stand is on this type of occurrence, but I’ve always had kind of an interest in this. I have found it intriguing.

Statistics have shown that eight million people have had this experience. I believe even science is starting to recognize this. Could it be that maybe God is trying to help us along a little bit by possibly giving us a little hint? I don’t know for sure, but one can never tell. This is not my advice, but just a bit of information in case you are interested.

Please do not put too much stock in this. It may be believable to a point, maybe some are, but we must be very cautious as to the tricks of satan. He works through this type of experience. So I really don’t know that I’d strongly recommend it, especially to an atheist. Maybe we might scratch that actually. Let’s not start a whole new line of debate over this now. Just a thought on my part, but decided to leave it in anyway.

If you’d like my advice I’d say get down upon your knees before the Holy Crucifix of the Lord and He will work mighty miracles in your heart, your soul and your life. Don’t expect it overnight, but it is a done deal! A sure thing. First though, you have to say to Him “Welcome Jesus, come into my heart.” I will guarantee that even if you don’t find God, trust me, He will find you. I ought to know. I’ve lived it. Get ready. There are probably an awful lot of people praying for you on this forum. I love miracles.🙂 👍 :signofcross: God bless you and He loves you so much and some day you will know it.

ok, for one thing. are you thinking satan and lucifer are the same? cause they’re not. moving on,
they simply laughed at you. why? humans have become a bore to them. why humans destroy each other on their own. playing with dark matter like its a toy or the whole bashing atoms together at speed of light like its a game to toy with the earth! (ok,ok,ok, look theres more awful things going to happen and are busy right now to deal with silly humans—hey thats what they said. i try to watch over the well-being of the humankind)
you make your people look bad by joking around or think its funny for others the speak their mind that doesnt agree with you. thats the games lu and satan played before. faith or not, it doesnt save you. what saves you is how you treat your fellow people with respect! loving thy neighbors is not belittling thy neighbors. he asked a question, u should answer heartily not bitterly.

Oh look, another prayer with no effect. My guess is that you are so used to it, you will think it is anyones fault but your imaginary friend.

Since there is no solid evidence for one god over another, why not go into a mosque? Or a synogogue? If you are praying to the wrong icons won’t you just make the real god madder and madder?

Your god, if accepted as presented in the bible is a beast who would not be welcome in any polite society.

Why on earth would you think a beast like that worthy of worship?

Where have you ever heard that satan and lucifer are two separate angels? They are one and the same as far as I know. Lucifer was the most beautiful angel of all, and he wanted to be God. He fell from grace and thrown out of heaven with the angels that followed him. I believe he is a/k/a satan. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I sure hope you didn’t think I criticized you. I apologize if you took it that way, although I cannot imagine why you would.

God is not a beast. He is the Creator of all that is and ever was and ever will be. I’m afraid I cannot convince you. Faith is a strange thing. It’s something we must pray for. I admit my faith fails me many times. But I get right back up again and keep running in this race. In His Word, God never said it would be easy. He told us ahead of time we would have to pick up our cross and follow Him. I don’t know why this is, but that’s just how it is.

He saved us from eternal damnation by dying on the cross, but we have to follow him, and following him is the hardest thing in this world. I know it will be well worth it. I believe what Jesus told us. I hope some day you will too. I will keep the faith that some day he will speak to your heart.

Good works are also required of us and everything we do must be done in His name. Humans are by nature very sinful beings. I praise God for his unspeakable gift to us of sending His very own Son to be crucified for us to be justified in his sight. A great mystery, and very difficult to comprehend, even with faith. So I can well imagine without faith it would be just about impossible.

Just pray for faith and ask Jesus into your heart and he will come. You don’t want to some day die and find out you were wrong all the while, as you stand before the King’s mighty throne and will have to answer for your stubborness to even try.

Of course I do not judge you! Why would I? I’m praying for you, so why would I make judgements. Only ONE can judge, and He doesn’t do that till we have passed from this life. There is still time to find HIm. Seek and you shall find, as all of us here have. Please don’t wait till it’s too late. You have from now till the end of your life, except you don’t know when that will be. So be ready. He could come at any time in the blink of an eye.

I know you will mock me and laugh at me, and that’s okay. I’m not mad at you but I will surely pray for you. You are after all, one of his own sheep that for now is choosing to be outside of His fold. He will forever be calling you or you wouldn’t be here on this forum. You are so loved and don’t even know it. I’m so sad about that.

I shall return again as soon as my time permits and will check when I can to see where this whole discussion will take us.

May you be blessed by the King of Kings. The Creator of all.

:blessyou: :gopray2:

Don’t forget, if you want to support this tripe, that you also must support passages like Luke 19:27, where it talks about love and gentleness.

The lucifer is whatever light the world follows, Satan or God. For Babylon it is Satan, for Christians it is God and Jesus.
