I don’t know where to put this thread. I don’t hate Mexicans but let’s be honest we know how Mexicans are seen in the United States and I feel like there is an absence of God’s love in my life since I look like a Mexican. It is bad enough that I am autistic and am diagnosed with bipolar. My sister is not autistic or bipolar and God blessed her more by making her look white. I am grateful for what God has done for me but still. Still it feels like God could have made things easier for me by making me look more white or at least more Puerto Rican looking.

God doesn’t make things “easy” for people. Many things in life, simply ~are~ and God is ~there~ for people, to help them through things, not magically fix things for the wanting, or purposely cursing, as arbitrary punishment for no discernible reason.

Are there legitimate reasons for people to fear other people, based on looks or skin coloring? Social or economic status?

I have schizophrenia, and a few other things, so I understand what it’s like to be marginalized for issues I was born with. God doesn’t see people that way, though. It’s hard to stand alone, but we don’t Have to do it that way.

Feelings are not facts, and it’s possible to Change the way we feel about things, when we explore the Facts about them.

Schizophrenia, as I have it, has much in common with high functioning Autism, except that I get pretty messed up in the head if I don’t stay grounded. I’ve had Many psychotic episodes that I’ve had to be hospitalized for, for example.

Except that it wasn’t ~necessary~ to stick me in a hospital. My family could have simply Spoken to me, and helped me focus on the world around me, rather than over-react and make it “someone else’s problem”

So where my own family has often rejected me, and ejected me from their lives, leaving me homeless, because they were “afraid” of me “going crazy” even though I have never harmed a single person, at least not since I punched another kid in 7th grade… over 30 years ago… I can see how people live in fear of things they don’t understand.

Sometimes it takes longer to Talk about our differences with people, especially if they don’t want to listen. Sometimes we have a lot to learn for Ourselves, about ourselves, and our relationship with God, before we’re ready to speak up for ourselves, or better, for others, once we find the strength to walk with Christ.

Read more of what He has to say, especially the red letter parts, if you have such a Bible. There’s a lot to be said for Psalms as well =)

Are you kidding? I think Mexicans are beautiful!

I love Mexicans and Mexico. I welcome them in my US neighborhood. My little sister is white, but she has black hair, black eyes, and olive skin. I wish I looked more like her! I have very white skin and green eyes. I consider her much more beautiful.

Are you Mexican? If you are, you need to be proud of your rich and beautiful heritage. And your delicious food! I love Mexican food!

And, please, please, please know that God loves all of us equally and immeasurably. Love the way God made you. Make the most of it. Realize that no one can take your place - in life or in God’s heart.

St. Teresa of Avila, a Doctor of the Church, said this:

“We always find that those who walked closest to Christ were those who had to bear the greatest trials.”

I find it’s true. Love your trials, they bring you closer to Christ.

Along with that, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and/or Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can go a long way with helping a person to learn how to use their rational Thinking mind, to overcome the emotional difficulties associated with mood disorders and swings that many people diagnosed with mental illness have.

You can find resources online to help practice on your own, or in peer support groups, or with a clinical therapist versed in the practices as well. Many books on the topics can be found in libraries and many “self-help” books incorporate these strategies, although often in a more diffuse way directed at people who may not have experiences these troubles as intensely as others.

People are likely not discriminating against you because of your looks.
I would take a hard look inward…and discern why people have a problem (if they even truly do  ).

Blaming any ethnic group for problems is, as we Hispanics say: no bueno.

Nuts to that.

If I were a film producer, and if the country weren’t in so much trouble, I’d film Biblical movies in Mexico, because the scenery AND the people look right (and production would cost far less).

God presumably admires diverse human physiognomy because He created so much of it.

That is the problem. I am not Mexican. Even when I tried to take pride in Mexican culture I feel it doesn’t work because I am not Mexican.

I don’t really do “pride” myself. I am what I am, as God made me. I take comfort in That.

The fact that I have a lot of Irish heritage, doesn’t mean I come from Ireland directly, but I’ve done a lot of research on those things, including the Scottish side of my family (Clan Gordon) and things like that, which are about my Family… but I also have a friend, she’s like my ~best~ friend, and I learn a lot about the Person she is, just from talking with her =)

She’s a Mexican who lives in Mexico. In a lot of ways, we have similar attitudes about things, that cross any boundaries that heritage, traditions and culture might proscribe because of our genetics and locations, and I find a lot of the things she knows about and talk about very interesting, of themselves.

Find who ~you~ are, and express ~that~
You don’t need to fit into a mold that God didn’t design for you to fit in. <3

If you think that you are adversely affected by “looking Mexican” but are not, then maybe the stereotype is in your own mind?

Everybody in NA is pretty much a human mutt. Brown eyes or skin, mesomorphic bodybuild, etc, are very common and are not per se discriminatory characteristics.

What color was the Virgin of Guadalupe? What color was Jesus likely to be as a Palestinian Jew? Cultural norms and values aren’t the same as God’s values. Take heart.

If that appearance was good enough for the Mother of God, la Morena, then you should feel as loved by God as His Mother.

May Our Lady of Guadalupe pray for you.

Yes.

Stereotypes are the reasons why you aren’t happy, not because you look differently to how you would like. All of us face insecurities about our looks, and it sounds like you need some help in getting over yours. It isn’t healthy to actively hate the way you look, which you can’t change anyway.

I’m on board with those who think Mexicans are cool. One of my best buddies is from there. Totally awesome guy.

Love those guys.

Peace.

God send Mary, the Mother of Jesus to appear before the Mexican people in the city of Guadalupe. Few nations have had this honor. The Mexican nation is loved by God; be at peace!

I still feel God could love me more by not making me look Mexican. It is not fair. I am mixed and I am half Puerto Rican. Why don’t I look Puerto Rican? My sister doesn’t have autism, bipolar, and she is not lonely and she looks white. Why did God have to make my burden stronger by allowing me to look like a Mexican? It is hard to be closer to God and have a better relationship and to feel His presence when I look like a Mexican. Looking like a Mexican can even lead to sexual sins. I could say hey I won’t fall into sexual temptation because I will find a wife if I were white or at least light skinned. But what kind of woman around me wants to date a Mexican? I live in the Northeast and I think Mexicans are considered to be at the bottom of the totem pole. So not only do I have to have a disability but I have to look like a Mexican. It stinks. I am trying to go closer to God and I hear God wants to fulfill me but how? I look like a Mexican.

Methinks you may need to rethink your attitude towards Mexicans?

There’s nothing wrong with looking Mexican. There is, however, something very wrong with the tone of your post. The thing that’ll really affect your chances of finding a wife is how you portray yourself to others. You aren’t happy with your looks, and you are angry and bitter because of it. That isn’t going to attract anyone.

It also sounds as though you could be suffering from more than just looking like a certain type of nationality. Your thoughts on your looks sound like a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself.

I mean this in the nicest possible way: do something proactive with your problems instead of blaming others.

If you want to meet someone, try! Get to know someone through a hobby you enjoy, let people see past your looks and look past theirs. If you want to be happier, do things that build up your self esteem. Learn how to value yourself, because you have to before anyone else will. And remember - if all these people judge you for your looks, why would you want them to like you? Why would you want to be popular with superficial people who won’t try and see you for who you are?
