I foresee a drastic re-structuring of human values in the near furture

And where is God in this " new world order? " If man is not converted to God, things will continue to get worse. 🤷
In the prophecy I quoted earlier in this thread it is written:
ā€œā€¦A great change will come to pass, such as no mortal man will have expected…the Hand of Almighty God will work a marvellous change, something apparently impossible according to human understanding…a new mankind will come into existence…God possesses the key to everything. Blessed is he who will then be able to praise him, having obeyed all his commandments…the new mankind and will cause a new age to begin, in which there will be only one flock and one shepherd, and peace will be of long, long duration, for the glory of God in heaven and on earth**…For men will fear the Lord their God, they will observe the law and serve it with all their heart**. The sciences will be multiplied and complete on the earth…Men will be enlightened, so much as in the natural sciences and in the celestial sciences…All the nations will come and adore the Lord their God according to true catholic teaching…Men will live in peace and this will be granted because people will make their peace with Godā€¦ā€
***- Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (1613-1658), German Catholic mystic & priest ***
Read:
"…Interviewer:
John Paul II in his talk before the United Nations in New York in 1995 on the foundations of a new world order, also spoke of a new hope for the Third Millenium. ā€œWe shall see,ā€ said the Pope, ā€œthat the tears of this century have prepared the ground for a new springtime of the human spiritā€. What might he mean by this ā€œspringtimeā€? A new identity of man?
Pope Benedict XVI:
The Pope does indeed cherish a great expectation that the millenium of divisions will be followed by a millenium of unifications…The emergence of ecumenism at the Second Vatican Council is indeed a sign of a sort of renewed approach to a new unity. It is thus filled with the hope that the millenia have their physiognomy; that all the catastrophes of our century, as the Pope says, will be caught up at the end and turned into a new beginning. Unity of mankind, unity of religions, unity of Christians - we ought to search for these unities again, so that a more positive epoch may really begin. We must have visions…"
- Pope Benedict XVI, Salt of the Earth (1997 when still Cardinal Ratzinger, republished in 2005 as by the pope)
This other prophecy:
ā€œā€¦In the latter days there shall be great wars and bloodshed. The fury of wars shall last a long time. Whole provinces shall be left naked and uninhabited, many cities forsaken of people, the nobility slaughtered, principal persons ruined, great changes of kings, commonwealths and rulers.
Germany and Spain will unite under a great prince designated by God. After much slaughtering, the other nations will be forced to come into this union. There is no hope for the unbelievers until all Germany becomes converted; then all will happen quickly. Because of Germany’s unfaithfulness, the time will be prolonged until all countries unite under the Great Ruler. After this union mass conversions will take place by the command of God, and peace and prosperity will followā€¦ā€

I believe that with LOVE people will naturally be drawn back to religion, until the Second Coming, which will eventually happen.

I don’t think we need to wait for Jesus to come again to make great progress toward perfection. Sometimes it’s hard to look back at history and realize we have come a far way from when children were considered little more than slaves and torture was a public spectacle instead of a hidden shame.

Maybe not recognizing the light when we see it is just the Liar’s way of spreading darkness. One of the great steps forward is the Internet. Now, people from all over the world, just plain folks, can get together and share opinions and argue and clarify and even obfuscate - and - when some moran proposes murdering unborn children because they may be born with a medical condition that will cost society money… the world objected. Not just a few people in town who read the paper, there was no great debate about how maybe that would be a good idea, even though I am sure there are those who agree.

No, people all over were horrified and disgusted and could say so. And that man and his ideas were quashed.

Hallelujah.

Yes, the devil will influence some poor deluded souls into committing monstrous acts of violence. But it’s our choice to focus on either the evil he delights in and despair of anything better, or to really see how much better life is and can be and how much positive grace there is in the world and so, make more.

What do you think pleases the Liar the most? What do you think pleases God the most?

(BTW - the cable example was just an example, not aimed at you personally.)
The internet, like many human creations, is a double-edged sword. It is like a knife that can cut your food or kill someone. It is the perfect vehicle for liars, con-artists and pornographers. It is the perfect tool for spreading false information and pure propaganda around the world.

All good things come from God and are labeled good by that standard, not by the ā€œI’m good without god/godsā€ crowd.

Yes, it can be a force for good, but it is a pit filled with anonymous people who cherish their anonymous ability to spread evil and wrong messages far and wide.

Many people do not read or understand history. It’s generally boring to them. After the manufactured Wall Street crisis of 2008, do you know which book category was most affected? Historical nonfiction. I work in the book trade and I keep track of it as part of my job.

I predict human beings will not change. But using the internet to inform them about the Gospel and who Jesus Christ is will help, along with providing clear Church teaching.

Peace,
Ed

Maybe the geographic location may have something to do with it. In the buses of Pittsburgh, I see people giving up their seats to elderly people, disabled people, and pregnant women.
It is the law on NYC buses that persons with disabilities must be given a seat. It is encouraged to do so for the elderly and pregnant women on subways and buses, but that is up to the discretion and kindness of the passenger.

AFAIK, no studies; it’s just my own impression as a frequent rider of buses and subways in NYC that there is more obliviousness, if not callousness, to the plight of elderly riders today, especially elderly men. Maybe that’s because I’m ā€œalmostā€ in that category. Yes, I’ve seen kindness as well.
I think your subjective impression is likely close to accurate in NYC buses and subways. I don’t think that can be considered any sort of microcosm of the country or the world. Y’all have a pretty specific subculture there.

I see you’re new here. I always check people’s profiles if I’m curious. We also try and stick to the topic here, so , welcome to CAF and I’m not the topic.

What about the scriptural warnings of the great apostasy and the time of great distress and tribulation that will precede the second coming?

Christ and St. John make it quite clear that things on Earth are not going to be very pleasant in the last days.

Can we expect the non personal issues to be addressed on this interesting topic?

I agree there will be a drastic re-structuring of human values in future. The period we are in now is one end of the pendulum swing between a materialistic and a spiritualistic society. The Romans were savages, much as the modern world has become savage. Christianity surged when the world got weary of its crass materialism. It will do so again šŸ‘

This šŸ‘

Remember Saint Paul said, ā€œWhenever I am weak, I am strongā€ and ā€œWhere sin abounded, grace did more aboundā€.

Christ’s lowest ebb was when he was crucified, apparently in defeat.

But that ā€˜defeat’ was in fact the greatest triumph, and he rose again.

So to will human civilisation.

I was a hippie. I was neither ā€œdoped upā€ nor ā€œmisled.ā€ I was too busy working for civil rights. Note: everyone sits where they want on the bus.
Yeah, well. That does not explain all the perverted Marxist/Socialist underground newspapers and the sick and perverted underground comix or the sick and perverted lifestyles that disrespected mom and dad and the Church. The goal was the destruction of the family and severing ties with right living.

And we’re living through the rotten fruit of that right now.

Peace,

No, that’s all a wrong, Start a new thread if you want to argue with me about this, okay? PM me a link.

people tend to be pessimistic in the present and looking toward the future… and wax positively nostalgic about the past… but in terms of quality of life… it has never been better… and the future looks bright. technology and progress have always been the answer and they will continue to be. spiritually we are always playing catch up because technology and progress occur much more rapidly than we can socially or culturally adapt. we feel more of the pinch because… since the economy has gone global (due to technology) the supply and demand curves (thousands of them) have been out of whack (they always seek equilibrium) and the result has been hard on us since most of the world has had a quality of life well below ours… our quality of life has essentially been put on hold to subsidize the rest of the world. is that bad… no, not necessarily… is it bad for us economically… in the short term… yes… but in the big picture, especially as christian catholics we should be supportive (besides, it is inevitible). the quality of life for the planet has improved immensely. there is still much to be done and it may be painful for us but ultimately it is good.

as an aside, i have seen these junk emails espousing the past like the fities or sixties and while i can enjoy them to an extent… the world was much smaller then (again due to limited technology) and… what we didn’t realize during those idyllic eras was that the rest of the world was in pretty bad shape… but because we didn’t necessarily know, and therefore care, we can look back on those times with the same ignorant lens and wonder why we can’t go back… well that bubble has burst and the only way to go back is to go back with everyone, the rest of the world, back to an idyllic life, back to the future… (how spielbergian)
What quality of life? Who didn’t realize what? In the 1950s, Billy Graham met with President Eisenhower to discuss getting American surplus wheat to people starving in other parts of the world. Magazines like Life and Look would send photographers and reporters to all parts of the earth to record living conditions. But guess what? There’s no money in sending free food to people. That’s still true today.

There is no quality of life for the millions of aborted babies.

There is no quality of life for the billions of poor people.

There is no quality of life without compassion.

There is no quality of life when human dignity is in the toilet.

The rest of the world was in pretty bad shape during World War II. Today, it’s worse off in many ways. If you’re starving, you don’t need an iPad.

Limited technology during the 1950s and 1960s? When were the first ICBMs deployed by the Russians and the United States? 1959. By 1969, we had put the first man on the moon using a spacecraft that had less computing power than a ā€˜modern’ pocket calculator.

We haven’t gone back since the last Apollo mission.

During World War II, we had OSS agents around the world. Shortly after the V-1s began falling on England, one that did not dive but landed relatively intact, was packed up and shipped off to the United States where copies were immediately put into production before the end of World War II. When was radar developed and used in combat? When was the first ballistic missile developed and used in combat? A person with a short-wave radio could hear broadcasts from around the world.

Get a grip and do some historical research. The Germans had developed a joystick controlled, visually guided missile that had succeeding in sinking one ship and damaged others in 1943.

Progress without compassion only means there will be more deaths to come, not less. Not to mention the spiritual cost.

Peace,
Ed

I never thought of the fifties as idyllic. I was a boy then, and we feared the dark shadow of nuclear war. But in many ways the fifties were not a filthy era. We never thought of killing the unborn as a precious right embedded in the Constitution. We never thought of sodomy as a practice to be defended and enshrined in the marital laws of the land. In many ways, our time is a reflection of the decline of religious influence in human affairs. As Voltaire said, the atheistic senate of Rome brought about the destruction of the Empire. History seems to be repeating itself, only now Catholics are collaborating with the atheists at an alarming pace to destroy common sense and common decency. The evidence for this will be clear very soon, when the Supreme Court (composed of six Catholics) will rule on the right of sodomites to marry and adopt children on an equal status with heterosexuals. No previous civilization has done this on the scale that will be made possible by Catholics on the Supreme Court when you see how they vote.
