I Know Why I Hate Everything

Dear friend, can’t you allow yourself to forgive people mercifully, like Jesus forgave the people who were putting him to death? He said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” I understand you are very angry that men are so sinful, but can’t you try to pity them for what they are doing to their souls and pray for them? Sometimes I feel myself getting angry at certain persons for their persisting in their sins but then I see I can’t let myself do this - I see I must rather continue to pray for them and see the good in them - even if they have their share of bad in them. Can’t you give this a try? You are right when you say that God loves men - and we both know he wants us to love men as well, so why don’t you tell God you will love men out of love for Him and then pray and do good things for these people you used to hate?
I’ve tried that way of thinking, it doesn’t work. I hate humans far more than I love God. Humans are here, they’re around you and every day you get to feel how they ignore you, or surpass you, or how they live off their sin like beasts. God is only in my head, a thought, an ideal; I’ve never felt enough comfort in God that human sickness doesn’t tear out. Plus there is no stability with God, I have to question how he changed from the Old Testament to the New Testament, why he refuses to bring me comfort, and through all this doubt I still know that humanity still remains as foul and evil as when it first came forth from a mutation among prehistoric apes.

I do, and its one of the main reasons I’m cannot follow God piously. God loves humans, for the most part humanity disgusts me and makes me grit my teeth in anger. Even if I went straight to God, had confession done and went back to Mass I’d probably still hate God’s Man, and because of that all my prayer and attempts to feel his Grace are pointless.
Begin to pity man’s miserable state and pray for these souls who need our prayers for their conversion.
If anything I can only hope God is willing enough to give me a corner of Hell where I don’t have to hear or see any other people. Of course since I don’t deserve that he’ll lead me to the most populated part of Hell where I’ll be with the kind of people I hate most for eternity./
I wouldn’t even entertain going to Hell, if I were you - no horror in this world can compare to it. Hope at least for Purgatory - or even better - hope for Heaven. Want to be a saint and make it happen? Be humble with a strong desire to become a saint. This is how it starts.
Considering I’ll never stop suffering, it’s enough to make me wish I could just forget about God and look forward to nothingness…
Think about all the merit you will be gaining for yourself and for souls by all your sufferings born patiently and lovingly. Just carry your cross patiently and lovingly, my friend, and you’ll win the prize of etenal glory in Paradise with our heavenly Father. You don’t want to forget about God. He is Love and Truth, Goodness and Mercy, Beauty and Peace, All Holy and Just - how could anybody prefer nothingness to God?

I’m sad that you don’t experience, and recognize, so many good and kind people as do in fact exist.
I know so many good people, but perhaps your view is poisoned by the bad treatment you have described and home, and perhaps you draw negativity because it is what you project…as that is something which does in reality occur.

Of many people, would you hate my sister and her husband, who not only raised their five natural children, with my sister home-schooling them,
but who not just fostered, but took upon the lifelong choice of adopting two handicapped children, one very severe, the other, with much love and work, functioning well, adopted soon after birth and now a young adult.

Would you also hate my brother and sister in-law who raised their own three fine children, but adopted, again not fostered but made their own forever, three handicapped children whom they love and care for regardless of medical bills and daily effort…and never, like my sister and her husband, will be free of caring for these children. One is very severe and needed lost of surgeries and careful daily watching, one being now grown, and able to function in a sheltered workshop, the younger two will always be cared for at home.

Would you hate such people as these?

Would you hate another of my brothers who has put into place a plan that was several years in the making with much effort, that will benefit the whole of the State in which I live. Would you hate another sister who has worked hard, despite serious injuries from an accident that left her with chronic pain, who has for the last ten years volunteer work and negotiation, taken care of the environment in her area for the next ten years.

Would you hate a sister in law whose unpaid work is going each week to a nursing home to take care of elderly residents.

Look up the Australian doctor, Fred Hollows. Would you hate him who has saved so many from blindness, and his son who has followed him into this volunteer work in a Third World country.

Shall I find more. I began with my family but I can go wider, as with Fred Hollows, and find innumerable people who give unstintingly of their lives.

Actually, how dare you be so arrogant as to hate others. 🙂 You might be having a bad deal, but you create some of it. People know if you don’t love them if you judge them if you dislike them, and and it creates a negative atmosphere around you. If you are in a toxic environment, change your environment. Move out. Maybe it’s time to stop feeling so sorry for yourself and think of others more. You have been bleating your hatred of others for so long, and you ignore anyone who tries to show you a better way. I for one has continued to show you kindness but you teflon off everything kind and good people say to you

Think about all the merit you will be gaining for yourself and for souls by all your sufferings born patiently and lovingly. Just carry your cross patiently and lovingly, my friend, and you’ll win the prize of etenal glory in Paradise with our heavenly Father. You don’t want to forget about God. Isn’t this still a selfish way of thinking, the fact is just concerning myself with my own salvation won’t solve my misanthrope feelings and would feel self centered with myself only looking toward God to receive Heaven as a gift.

…would you hate…
No, I’d see them as I see my family. A speck of clean water in a sea of pollution.

Maybe Rascalking was right, and I am just a bitter unhappy person that good happy people should just avoid…

No, that just your self-pity speaking. We all have troubles.
If I told you all I’ve been through even last two years, and if I told you all I’ve been and loved ones have been through in our lives, you wouldn’t know what hit you.
If you read Prayer Intentions you’ll find hundreds of people who go through terrible things but they try to be positive. Being positive isn’t easy for most of us. I know I’d have a huge lake of tears I’ve cried in my life, but one cares about others, because one has been through a lot, one gives understanding an warmth to others, and no it’s not always been easy, I was an introvert, dreadfully so, but I only put that aside because others need love and warmth. Because as human beings that’s what we need to do.
And my family are not just one speck, there are innumerable good people.

I could keep stroking you endlessly. As you know, I have always been kind to you, but you stay in your cocoon of self-hate and hate of others, and maybe someone using scissors to try to cut you out of your self-pity -and-judgement-of others-cocoon, is what is the right thing to do at least once. I would wish to help, and have cared and do care, but caring hasn’t cut through a single thread of your self-prison so far.

I read Charles Darwin’s books in a college class devoted to the Darwinian Revolution and had to write my final paper on his theories. I found no problem with natural selection and micro-evolution because what I read in Darwin’s books (and others) seemed to present reasonable evidence in favor of it. But when I looked into macro-evolution and Darwin’s theory of man’s common ancestry with apes I found no real proof in favor of his theory. My professor gave me an A in the class and an A on my paper and my paper essensially proved that Darwin’s theory of common ancestry was nothing more than a theory without real proof to support it. We do not come from apes, Flavius_Aetius, no matter what they taught you in your school. Schools today teach evolution as a “law” when it is merely a “theory.” Please leave all the junk from your education behind and start reading good Catholic books written by Saints, Fathers of the Church, Doctors of the Church, Popes, etc…Do spiritual reading and fill your mind with love and truth.

My friend, I understand you hate people more than you love God so why don’t you ask God for more of his love in your heart to love him and others with. Tell him you love him very little and despise others much more but want to love him more because he is All-Love and your loving Father; and tell him you want to love the people you normally hate because you know He wants this love from you. Please don’t go on hating - that’s what the damned do for all eternally. Please work on loving God more by opening your heart to receive his forgivenss in confession. Then thank him ceaselessly for the graces he gives you in the confessional and at the Masses you attend, and beg him for the strength and graces you need to keep persevering in a state of grace. And when you fall again, humbly meet with your spiritual director/confessor and receive the healing and strength of the sacrament. Sounds good?

Isn’t this still a selfish way of thinking, the fact is just concerning myself with my own salvation won’t solve my misanthrope feelings and would feel self centered with myself only looking toward God to receive Heaven as a gift.
You are not merely concerning yourself with your own salvation when you offer things up for yourself and souls. Suffering patienlty and lovingly for souls and for your own salvation is what Catholics can benefit by doing - It’s not selfish to want others and oneself to be as close to God in heaven as He wants us all to be. The fact that it is our merits which determine our degree of glory in heaven tells us that not only our prayers, but all our good works are most valuable. We don’t even have to ever offer up things for ourselves. The very act of offering something up for other souls is enough to gain merit for the person making the offering.

I don’t think you should suffer with the intention of gaining merits though, I think you should suffer your cross patienlty and lovingly to be pleasing to God, to console him, and for the intention of converting/savingsouls (e.g. the salvation of all souls, the conversions of poor sinners, the perseverance of the just, the sanctification of priests, the deliverance and relief of holy souls of purgatory - even for the salvation of your own soul. Souls will benefit - and so will yours - even if you didn’t offer up your suffering for yourself.

Damn it, I can’t do this…

I can’t lie to myself and say I’ll change; I’ll never change - sorry for even putting up false hope.

I’m in an unbreakable prison of self-hate, which radiates out to anger at God and Man. Nothing works, stroking and calm words don’t seem to get through as mentioned earlier, tough love and getting aggressive about caring of others just stokes anger in my heart, and Isolation drives me crazy because I know that “No one outside your family will miss you.” Hell plenty of times online I know that if I were to just stop posting the world would continue. In fact that’s a fact in real life too, no one cares about the dead or lost. I know I’m the worst kind of judgmental person, and that’s why I can’t live in total isolation either. I cannot stand the idea of all of us putting on fake smiles and the world becoming more tolerant and liberal with every passing day! I almost feel that’s my purpose, to be judgmental in a world where everyone expects nothing but bloody praise for each immorality they accomplish!

I admire Socrates, he was cynical of his fellow Athenians and died without ever bowing down to what they wanted to hear from him. I only wish I was as clever and calm minded as him, but the fact is I’m not. He’s a hero, yet would probably see me as little more than a brute of a cynic without any moral fiber to me.

Flavius_Aetius, this may be against what you have been reading from previous posts, but please believe me that hate is good.

Yes you read that right, hate is good. Why? Because you can feel it. God never makes anything bad, so how can anyone say that hate is evil when God allows you to feel it?

What can make anything evil is the abuse of good. And hate is one of the most abused things in the world because we have forgotten how to hate. This evil, stupid, effeminate society keeps on harping that hate is bad, that any aggression is evil. Well, that’s a big load of bushwa that’s making men into sissies and women into cranks.

In fact, look at our Saints, they are full of hatred. Have you read St. Paul’s letters? Have you ever read St. Louis of France’s words: “A Christian should argue with a blasphemer only by running his sword through his bowels as far as it will go”? Heck, go the full mile and read Jesus’ words in Matthew chapter 23!

But what is the difference between the hatred of the world and the hatred of Christians? The hatred of the world is controlled in degree but not in scope. Those of the world can hate their parents, their dog, their job, their friends, their co-workers…any and all under the sun they can feel hatred, but they try to control the magnitude of their hate.

Christians, on the other hand, control their hatred in scope but not in degree. Christians can never hate people nor God…but they can, nay, they are obligated, to hate sin and evil. Why? Because we LOVE people and God. Love is the polarization of our whole being towards a perceived good; hate, on the other hand, is the polarization away of our whole being from a perceived evil that will hurt or prevent us from attaining the perceived good. And since we love God and men, it is logical that we will hate what can hurt men and make us lose God.

We hate murder because it makes men murderers and the murdered.

We hate thievery because it makes men thieves and victims of theft.

We hate hypocrites because it makes men hypocrites and judges.

We hate pride because it makes men proud and shamed.

And all of these hurt God and lessens our chance to be with Him forever.

Now with this insight you should see why the hatred of the world is controlled in degree but not in scope: because those of the world only love themselves, and they hate anything and everything that threaten themselves, which, well, can be anything and everything.

Do you see now, Flavius_Aetius, how good hate is? Hate is just the south pole, and love the north pole. You cannot love if you cannot hate. In fact, I will dare say that a great hater is a great lover! Your great hate is a blessing!

Do you need proof? Have you read of St. Paul’s story, of how great his hatred was against Christians before his conversion? How he hunted down Christians and had them killed, and looked on with favor when St. Stephen was stoned to death? How his hatred was so fierce and well-known that Christians were suspicious and afraid of him even after his conversion? And yet, look at what happened to St. Paul after Damascus! St Paul, the greatest evangelizer of the ancient world! How far he went to spread God’s word! How great his efforts to show his love and tenderness towards his spiritual children! How great and unbounded a love for God and Christians!

Flavius_Aetius, never lose your hate, but redirect it. Pray to God to that He may lend you St. Paul’s Sword, the Sword of the Holy Spirit, to split asunder the sin from the sinner, that you may hate into the pits of hell the sins, and love up to the highest heavens the sinner; that you may never forgive the sin for what it has done, and forgive the sinner seventy times seven for what he had done.

God love you.

Nuntym, Jesus, who is God incarnate never told us to hate, only to love. So you disagree with Jesus? And His Apostles.

Hate is not good, it destroys, and the OP is desperately unhappy, has been consistently so in these forums, encouraging this hate isn’t helpful, I think.
You can object strenuously to something and strive against it with the grace of God and all your ability if it’s bad, dangerous, or evil, but not hate. Hate is too dangerous and can easily consume the good in a person and even a person of initial good intentions. Hate is absence of love.

As the Father has loved me, **so have I loved you. **Now remain in my love (John 15:9)
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, **abounding in love and faithfulness **(Psalm 86:15).

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34).

But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you (Luke 6:27-28).

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35).
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse (Romans 12:14).

We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it (1 Corinthians 4:12).

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:17-21).

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9).
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble (1 John 2:9-10).

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. (Proverbs 10:12)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,(Galatians 5:22)

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)

And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone." (Thessalonians 5:14)

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." (Peter 4:8

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.Galatians 5:13

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:2

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,1 Peter 1:22

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.1 John 4:7

And when Jesus described the judgement of souls in Matthew 25 verses 31-46, He did not say that those who hate, but those who love others with practical acts of love, and thereby love Him, go to heaven.

Jesus also told us over and over again, in many ways, that we are not to judge others.

Nuntym, Jesus, who is God incarnate never told us to hate, only to love. So you disagree with Jesus? And His Apostles.
Have you read the whole of my earlier post, Trishie?
Hate is not good, it destroys,
And if it is not good, then why can we feel it, Trishie? Does God make anything bad or evil? Even to not use anger, the emotion that the Church has warned us so much about, is, according to the Church, evil if it is not used for the benefit of all. Remember Jesus upturning the tables in front of the Temple in Jerusalem?
and the OP is desperately unhappy, has been consistently so in these forums, encouraging this hate isn’t helpful, I think.
And here you think wrong. He is like that because “his heart is not in the right place,” his hate of evil and sin cannot be expressed as God had meant it because he does not know how. THAT is what we must show him.
You can object strenuously to something and strive against it with the grace of God and all your ability if it’s bad, dangerous, or evil, but not hate. Hate is too dangerous and can easily consume the good in a person and even a person of initial good intentions. Hate is absence of love.
I disagree. Indifference is the absence of love. If you do not care, then you cannot love. It is THAT simple. On the other hand, hate is the evidence of caring for something immensely, because you hate to lose the one that you love, or for it to get hurt.
As the Father has loved me, **so have I loved you. **Now remain in my love (John 15:9)
And where in my earlier post did I say NOT to love God and man, Trishie? That is what most of the Scriptural passages that you posted say: to love God and man. THAT is what I have been saying all along in my post!

I will not repost those Scriptural passages with the same message, but I will comment on some.
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, **abounding in love and faithfulness **(Psalm 86:15).
And why would I be quick to anger, and not abounding in love and faithfulness? To be so is to be sinful, and I hate sin. Therefore I will be slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness.

Can you see now what I am trying to drive at, Trishie?
But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you (Luke 6:27-28).

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse (Romans 12:14).

We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it (1 Corinthians 4:12).

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9).

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. (Proverbs 10:12)
Of course I do good to those who hate me, bless those who curse me, pray for those who mistreat me! How can I not do that if I love them?! I hate what they are doing, for they are doing worse hurt to themselves than to me by sinning as such, and that’s why I will do whatever I can to convince them to stop and to pray for them.

continued next post…

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,(Galatians 5:22)
The whole passage reads:

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like.** I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. **But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. Galatians 5:16-23

So where does it say that to hate sin and evil is a work of the flesh, Trishie? Indeed, I hate each and every one of those things that St. Paul listed as works of the flesh. In my personal experience, I have all of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit when I maintain that hatred, and lose that Fruit when I sin (that is, I come to love sin).
And when Jesus described the judgement of souls in Matthew 25 verses 31-46, He did not say that those who hate, but those who love others with practical acts of love, and thereby love Him, go to heaven.
And how could one love others if he could not hate the state of evil they are in, if he could not hate the fact that the people he loves are hungry, thirsty, strangers in a strange land, naked, sick, in prison?
Jesus also told us over and over again, in many ways, that we are not to judge others.
That is why I hate judging people, and thus do not do it.

Let me reiterate: when you love something, you automatically hate something else; when you hate something, you automatically love something else. That is pure Thomasian theology, Trishie.

Try reading on Aquinas’ teachings on the passions, or read some G.K. Chesterton, if you want to learn more about the subject.

God love you.

Yes, we must “hate the sin and love the sinner.” To love any sin is a very wicked thing to do.

+JMJ+
Yes, we must “hate the sin and love the sinner.” To love any sin is a very wicked thing to do.
Exactly. Flavius_Aetius has actually legitimate reasons to hate but, as one saying goes, he has not as of yet seen the trees from the forest. Yes, it is good to hate evil and faithlessness, but not the evil ones nor the faithless; he must hate their sins BECAUSE these sins HURT those he should love: God, other people, himself, and, most tragic of all, the sinners themselves. He must separate, with the eyes of faith and grace, the sinners from the sins, for sin is as foreign to us as is a bullet lodged in someone’s brain, and that’s why it kills, because sin doesn’t belong in this world.

Sin is poison of the deadliest degree, and should be hated with the greatest of our efforts. That is the only way to avoid sin. And that is how to be truly loving, for you now let hatred run wild where it is supposed to run wild — against evil and sin — so that love can now run wild where it is supposed to run wild — towards God and His creatures for His sake.

Such a waste that the OP is now banned.

Flavius_Aetius, I beg you, truly hate the sins of those you hate and pray for them. Tell God how much you hate those sins so that He may cleanse them away and give you the grace to truly love them for His sake… And also, truly hate the “old you,” the “old man” that was crucified in your baptism with Jesus (Romans 6:2); the “old man” who hates people, not their sins; the “old man” who is jealous and bitter towards the goodness of God and others, so that you may truly love the “new man” that has risen with Christ in the glory of the Father (Romans 6:3), the one that is continually made, full of goodness and grace from God, the one who Jesus truly loves. Pray for this grace, Flavius_Aetius. I will pray for you.

God love you.

You’ll be in my prayers, Flavius_Aetius. Ask our Lord to change your heart … I don’t want you to go to hell because you hate Him and others, and refuse to change. I recommend you to the Blessed Virgin Mary. God bless!

Hee hee. Someone on this thread mentioned “Rascalking” is right.

Everybody remember that!

👍

Say what you will nuntym, despite your admirable effort, I stand by the power of Love. 🙂
I will stand against what is wrong and evil, and fight it with whatever action I can, with prayer also and with penance, but I will never welcome the destructive power of hate into my heart and life, and yes, I have had cause to many times, sometimes seriously. So that is that.

Hell is absence of love, that is, of God, and nowhere in Scripture, to my knowledge, are we told it is a place of indifference. There is nothing of ‘indifference’ in 'weeping and gnashing of teeth". We must agree to disagree I think. 🙂

Perhaps those who think as you do are the immune system in the body of Christ that is made up of many parts…and my immune system tends to fight what it shouldn’t and do harm, so I know some dangers associated with the fight!
Sin causes me grief, not hate. Lack of love of God and others grieves me, makes me want to help, to obtain God’s graces, it doesn’t make me feel hate.

Not long ago someone seriously tried, in an evil way, to destroy (quite seriously destroy in the worst way) someone I love so dearly I’d give my life in an instant for him, but I don’t hate the person. I never did. I did all I could to counter it, and we did successfully, but I still don’t hate the person. I pray for the person. I’m sad for the mess the person has made of their life.

For me, hate is not the way to avoid sin, to love is the way to avoid sin.

I’m another part of the Mystical Body, muddling around with another aspect of the Body’s welfare, inasmuch as, with God’s grace, I can manage.
God bless. And thanks for all the effort you put in.
