Paris using ADD as a crutch won’t work. I’ve been ADD all my life and I have learned to love the way I am, and to tell you the truth I wouldn’t want to be any other way. ADD people are more dramatic and artistic you should learn to use those gifts and maybe you could start viewing your world that way. Yes it is sometimes hard to sit still through Mass, but remmeber it is God who made us and he knows are faults and only he can save us from them.

Depression, is another thing and you should really get help with that.

Paris:

I’ve followed you for quite a while now. If you allow me to go straight to the point here.

Sadness and despair are allies of the enemy. It seems your locus of faith is with your emotions…push it deeper into your WILL and INTELLECT. Emotions are like the weather…it will change on a daily basis. The beauty of the faith is that it compells us to go deeper than feelings.

Be still and know that He is God your father. He is waiting to forgive you if you are humble enough to get down on your knees and say sorry in the confessional.

Don’t allow your emotions to lead you. Use it when beneficial to your life but don’t when it’s destructive.

God bless you sister.

in XT.

Paris Blues:
Yes and I was afraid pride was getting in the way too. Can you believe my conscience told me that?

I e-mailed him and waiting for him to reply. I’m trying to humble myself by letting myself know that there IS something wrong with me both spiritually and mentally (didn’t I mention that I’m effected with attention deficit disorder, an all-hell-breaks-loose condition?)

Yes, I told myself that too that I’m way too weak and the worst sinner. I hope you’re right about the forgiveness.
Goodness you are not too weak and the worst sinner, I fear you might be feeling some pride there. (Ok in the right perspecitve thats ok, but I get the feeling that you aren’t in it) And yes I am right about forgiveness, you trust what the Church says right?

Yes I understand ADHD, my sister has it – for real. I’ll take you at your word too. Just relax, heheh I know thats easy for me to say. Your not crazy, most people have felt the exact same way you have. Though I’m sure what ever is causing the ADHD is making it easy for it to show on you.

Whatever you do get a spiritual director if you can or in the least go to the same confessor, that might work just as well. Once you get to a point where you can trust that its ok to fall, so long as you get back up, repent and move on. Whats not ok is just staying in that fallen state.

I appluad you for wanting to fight the battle as valantly as you can, but keep in perspective its easy to fall. I would think it would give God more glory to know someone who fell everyday but was faithful to confession and repentance, than a person who never fell once. I don’t know, I could be wrong there, but it is humbling when you keep falling and day after day you must go back to confession.

Oh by the way, I really think you do need spritial dirction and from the right person. Whatever you have going on mentally is going to be a huge cross, but where there is the cross there is much grace. You may never seem to be doing well as the next person, but that may very well be a huge cross giving the Lord much glory. I can tell you once you get into mental problems, thing that might cause someone slight anxiety will cause you 10x more. So sister, that grace will be poured on you even more, but its going to be more of a struggle. You could turn away, but where would you go? Stay strong, when the Lord created you, he had some plan for you, though everything may not be reaveled to you now, the Lord still wants you.

Paris,

The people here have been more than kind, in my opinion, and I hope you’ve found something insightful in what they wrote.

However…

I’ve seen you bounce up and down for as long as you’ve been here, and I can tell you this–if you don’t calm down, engage your MIND instead of your EMOTIONS, this will never end. Unless you actually do have some sort of psychological problems, this behavior is beyond immature.

And before everyone piles on me for being the insensitive jerk, let me just say that I went through a similar phase. I screamed at God, refused to go to Mass, engaged in all kinds of bad things, blah, blah, blah. This was while I was going to Franciscan University and for a while afterward. At FUS, a priest gave me the best advice of anyone: “You’re an adult now–grow up and act like one.” It took a while, but I did it.

So, I’m going to tell you the same thing, with some minor tweaks: Unless you’re 12, and unless you’re suffering from some sort of psychological problems, you have no excuse to be acting like this. We all struggle with it. We all have our down periods and sometimes, very few “up” periods. You are not unique in the struggle. Either act like an adult or give in and leave the Church. This halfway nonsense reeks of a desperate need for attention, not the struggle for holiness.

If you do have actual health problems, I apologize if my tone seems harsh, but you need to hear it. Judging by the last year’s worth of your posts, your professed desire to leave the Church mere weeks after joining it comes as a surprise to exactly nobody.

The following passage comes to my mind:

1 Cor 10:12 Wherefore he that thinketh himself to stand, let him take heed lest he fall. 13 Let no temptation take hold on you, but such as is human. And God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able: but will make also with temptation issue, that you may be able to bear it.

And yet also another:

James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy, when you shall fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 And patience hath a perfect work; that you may be perfect and entire, failing in nothing.

So persevere:

Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another every day, whilst it is called today, that none of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ: yet so, if we hold the beginning of his substance firm unto the end.

hurst

One more thing that helped me with my A.D.D.-addled spirituality…

I don’t know the exact verse, but it goes like this:

"Be still and know that I am God."

That’s it. The next time you go to pray, get on your knees and simply shut up. It’s the best way to pray, in my experience. Sometimes silence is the absolute way to pray.

Well, what am I suppose to say? The best sinner?

Haha! But believe me, I don’t wish it on anyone.

I’m trying too! I haven’t heard from Father yet. I hope he can tell me.

Who the heck knows!

**Oh for crêpe sake…peoples! How many times are each one of you going to tell me you’ve seen my ups and downs and this and that and yada yada yada? Do you think I don’t know that? I’ve seen that more than the number times I posted with the “!!!” **

Well, at least I’m not the only one who suffers:rolleyes: I guess I should tell myself to just shut up and be a Catholic, eh?

**I’m not 12, 21. But the numbers are backwards!😃 But seriously, I’m 21 and I can act very immature sometimes and that’s normal with ADDers. **

I’m perfectly healthy physically. But I’m ADD in the brain, is that mentally ill really, hmmmmm…we’ll just wait and see.

Paris,

Remember this…you have friends here that love you and we will pray for you. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ and we have powerful friends in high places. While you struggle and fight the good fight, remember that you are not alone.

Sometimes when we feel weak and alone it is helpful to recall what scripture says in 1 Peter 1:3-7

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and to an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Our lives are not always easy but they are short. The torments of life will quickly fade as Jesus wipes away every tear and every sorrow. Looking back we will see that our rocky and difficult path in life was insignificant in the light of grace and salvation. We struggle with you now, and we will rejoice with you in heaven.

Well, at least I’m not the only one who suffers I guess I should tell myself to just shut up and be a Catholic, eh?
Only if you recognize it as the truth.

If there is some intellectual reason why you no longer believe the Church is the one Christ (who is God) founded, no, don’t just suck it up.

If you’re all twisted up inside because the struggle is hard, then yes, by all means, suck it up. If your mind is sure that you’re in the right place, but you still struggle, what other option do you have? Just about everyone here will empathize with you and your struggles because we’re all going through the same thing. But after a while, hystrionics just gets tedious.

You know, that REALLY gives me courage and hope! Thank you for sharing that!

Amen!

So does that mean I’m still Catholic then or not? I’m confused more than ever!

Why would you start a whole new thread on this? Especially when there’s no context on what you’re talking about?

Once Catholic, always Catholic, babe. Where you’re going is another matter entirely. There should be no ambiguity about this. You’ve been hanging out in the best Catholic resource for a year now.

Yes, you’re still Catholic. If you had formally left the Church and/or joined another, that would be a different story. Nor would I agonize over your “leaving”—likely another sign of an OCD or other kind of problem.

Sherlock:
But I forgeot to ask: why are you confused?
Because I’m trying to figure out if I’m still in the state of mortal sin if I’m still Catholic. Well, what if I was Buddhist or back to Protestant? Would I still be in mortal sin?

But on the other hand, I still must be thinking Catholic 'cause I KNOW my soul is in danger even if I went to a Buddhist church or back to Protestant because the mortal sin thing has been engraved deep in my mind and on my soul…well, I just answered that.😉
