I left the Church

Paris Blues:
Because I’m trying to figure out if I’m still in the state of mortal sin if I’m still Catholic. Well, what if I was Buddhist or back to Protestant? Would I still be in mortal sin?

But on the other hand, I still must be thinking Catholic 'cause I KNOW my soul is in danger even if I went to a Buddhist church or back to Protestant.
Look, Paris, I don’t want to sound harsh, but with all of the posts you’ve received that state clearly that “full knowledge and consent” are required for mortal sin, you actually have to ask?

I’m not Buddhist, and what Protestants believe depends utterly on what Protestant you’re talking to, so what is the point of bringing those up?

Yes, you’re still Catholic. If you had formally left the Church and/or joined another, that would be a different story. Nor would I agonize over your “leaving”—likely another sign of an OCD or other kind of problem.
It has been my experience that even if Catholics leave and join another church, they still (in their heart of hearts) consider themselves “Catholic”…I think it’s near to impossible to completely take the “Catholic” out of a person…I fuond, when I treid it…that it was like trying to change the color of my eyes. Couldn’t be done!

That’s certainly true. Even back when I did go to Protestant churches, I still was Catholic in some essential ways.

I think you misunderstood my question.

If I’m in mortal sin which I am, and leave the Church and let’s say go back to Protestant, does the mortal sin thing still apply to me even though I’m not in the Church anymore? In other words, if I died - without going to Confession back in the CC - in the Protestant church, would I go to Hell because I was still in the state of mortal sin even though I was in a Protestant church and practiced their beliefs (yet still knew the Truth from the CC)?

If you are indeed in mortal sin when leaving the Catholic Church, you would still be in mortal sin regardless of whatever new faith you joined.

All who die in a state of mortal sin go to hell; no matter what religion they are. Mortal sin applies to all human beings, not just Catholics.

Our lives are not always easy but they are short. The torments of life will quickly fade as Jesus wipes away every tear and every sorrow. Looking back we will see that our rocky and difficult path in life was insignificant in the light of grace and salvation. We struggle with you now, and we will rejoice with you in heaven.
All right…now I really want to come back.😃

How is it that you are in a mortal sin? What I’ve seen in your posts is an emotional instability that certainly affects your culpability, and unless you ran out of the Church and into a Protestant one and told them, “Sign me up, brother, 'cause I am leaving the Catholic Church behind”, I don’t see what it is that you are accusing yourself of having done.

If you are speaking purely hypothetically, then I would say that a person who rejected Jesus’s Church knowing that it was Jesus’s Church is probably in a state of sin. I say “probably” because there may be factors which affect a person’s culpability, factors that we may not be able to know. It’s God’s business to judge who is and who is not worthy of hell. WE can say that rejecting Jesus’s Church is a mortal sin (see Luke 10:16): “Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.” But we don’t know all of the factors that might affect culpability in a particular individual.

Are you asking if you can somehow escape mortal sin by just claiming to be another religion?

Um, no you can’t do that. I would seriously consider talking about these problems you are having with a priest. I mean, mortal sin is bad, but I really don’t understand you agonizing over it so much unless you killed someone or something.

You know something? Now I’m getting mad. You’ve spent hundreds of hours on this forum, started up over three hundred threads, most of which deal exclusively with “ME, ME, ME,” have been given thousands of man-hours of sympathy, support and instruction, and have been so coddled over every minute detail of your spiritual formation, and now mere WEEKS after becoming Catholic, you’re trying so hard to throw it all away, to find some little loophole you can crawl through because it’s harder than you thought.

This latest tantrum and grasp for attention just throws all the goodness these people have given you back in their faces. It’s disgusting.

What? You’ve read my post from this morning. What mortal sin you asked? That was pretty obvious. I missed Christmas Mass on Sunday! Not trying to sound rude or anything but what do you call that?

You must be trying to mess with me or something…(probably to see if I’ll overreact or make the !!! )

Paris,
In your heart…do you still want to be Cathoilc?
Being Catholic is not a desposable thing. once you become upset, dissolutioned, sinful, or mad, life still goes on and you still remain Catholic :yup: however you need to pray for strength, guidance and patience…for some it’s a daily thing :getholy: take up our cross daily!
Next time you are at Mass and partake in the Eucharist, pray to the Lord just before you receive that his body and blood will transform you, bringing peace and understanding in your heart and your life.
Spending quiet time in front of the Blessed Sacrament may also help.
I wish you all the best Paris.
and I will pray for you:gopray2:

Well for crying out loud, maybe it would’ve been better if I just didn’t pursue Catholicism. All right, if I’m making you mad, I’m sorry.

That’s fine. I heard from Father and he gave me the number to someone so I will give them a call later so that way, I wont come here and upset everyone. How’s that? My gosh…

Right at this moment, I could careless. I would like to but it doesn’t feel like it right now.

Excuse me—and you can stop “rolling your eyes”. I think I can be forgiven if I somehow lost track of just what particular mortal sin you happened to be accusing yourself of, as there seems to be a never-ending stream of them. And, as someone else has already mentioned, you haven’t exactly provided any context in this post. I thought that the mortal sin this time was “leaving the Catholic Church”, and it’s understandable that I thought that.

And you suggest that I must be trying to “mess with” you?? That’s it, Paris. I’ve come to share montanaman’s view. I’m just going to have to ignore your self-indulgent posts (all followed by good-hearted people all willing to help and having to hold your hand and repeat themselves over and over and over and over again) and quit trying to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped, but who likes the attention sickness brings.

You cannot undo the knowledge you now have. If you think you are exhausted now try denying your faith for a few years. On another note. If you are ADD and taking medication you need to get to a psychiatrist asap. Not a social worker, not at GP, a psychiatrist. If you are bi-polar the medication you are taking for ADD will aggravate the condition.

No. I just wanted to know if I did join another, I would be still Catholic then because I would know about mortal sin. All right, I will shut up about it before I cause more confusion.😦

Gee, I’m sorry. I don’t like attention sickness and not trying to do that. I’m just so disoriented spiritually that I just am CLUELESS.

Yet less than half an hour ago you wrote in the ORIGINAL thread that you wanted to come back based on what another poster wrote.

Look, I understand spiritual confusion (BELIEVE me), but what you need to do is shut off your computer and go for a walk, preferably along a nice, long, sunlit road.
