Thanks guys,
You are welcome but - color me confused…
I should have mentioned that although my wife is Catholic and we belong to the same Parish, she has worked for Protestant church for 17 years. That is where she spends her day and goes to church on Sunday. The priest who Convalidated our marriage 3 months ago said that everything was okay the way we had been doing things.
Am I reading this right that you wife goes to protestant service on Sunday - is that instead of attending mass??
Well, it has created quite a storm on the Catholic side, and on the Protestant side 2 pastors put pressure on my wife to divorce me because of not honoring our first marriage outside the Catholic Church.
Something seems fishy here…Need more information…Are you and your wife fully committed in the Catholic Church, attending mass etc??
Good grief! I just wanted to make sure that I am not living in sin and have to confess my lifestyle every Saturday. Thanks again for your Christian love.
🤷 At this point - I dunno…

Peace
James

Is it up to my descretion whether to attend Protestant events without having communion with them! I am solid Roman Catholic who goes the Mass Week Day Mornings, Holy Days, and Sundays. I just like the Protestant, and not sure of the official Roman Catholic Canon?

For example:
  1. Sit in class at a non-denominational Bible College for no credit nor course work?
  2. Attend Protestant Worship Music Concerts?
  3. Attend Protestant Faith Healing Crusades and Revivals?
  4. Watch TBN Evangelical Preachers on TV?
There is a scripture of the apostle St.Paul that I try to remember, since I have Protestant friends and Messianic Jewish Christian friends.

**20 And I became to the Jews, a Jew, that I might gain the Jews:

21 To them that are under the law, as if I were under the law, (whereas myself was not under the law,) that I might gain them that were under the law. To them that were without the law, as if I were without the law, (whereas I was not without the law of God, but was in the law of Christ,) that I might gain them that were without the law.

22 To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak. I became all things to all men, that I might save all.

23 And I do all things for the gospel’s sake: that I may be made partaker thereof.**

(1 Corinth. 9:20-23) Douay Rheims.

Admittedly, these words were written by the apostle Paul, but our Lord Jesus Christ did pray that we might all be one, even as he and the Father are one. So with that in mind, when I am with my acquaintances and friends who are of the Christian faith, but not Catholic, I try to remember to ask God for His divine law of love to prevail.

God’s peace.

Hello mercytruth,

Yes, that’s in (John 17: 16-26) when Jesus himself was praying to God the Father for unity so as not to discredit Him.

A good example is when the media refers the Islamics as Sunni & Shiite we loose all of our perception of Allah. The same thing happens when we say Catholic and Protestant, which makes us loose our perception of Jesus.

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” (John 17:20-26 NIV84)

Wrong. If you are talking about salvation there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. You should know that.
We were just going over this topic (link). You mean there is no salvation outside of the Church: extra Ecclesiam nulla sallus.

Even though the Church subsistet in the Catholic Church, the Magisterium teaches that salvation must be universal, and this is explained nicely - among other places - in the Redemptoris Missio:
The universality of salvation means that it is granted not only to those who explicitly believe in Christ and have entered the Church. …] salvation in Christ is accessible by virtue of a grace which, while having a mysterious relationship to the Church, does not make them formally part of the Church but enlightens them

The stronger and more confident we are in our Catholic faith, the less reason there is to be isolated from Protestantism-or from any other faith-or from any human beings for that matter. The more we love, the more we accept others in spite of differences, even in spite of sin. The Church is demonstrating this especially since Vat II and that’s why ecumenism is at the forefront now.
👍

Do you really believe that God thinks only catholics are worth saving.? Do you really believe that heaven is going to be full of a lot of benighted catholics and noone else.?

Too much reading of ancient texts. “what’s in a word, a rose by any other name still smells the same”
Yeah, I only bothered correcting you because a Muslim friend of mine was in the room at the time, he went rabid so I had to correct you, I don’t really give poo (would say something else but I’d get bullocked 😉 lol)…

My summary of the Church teaching:
  • Baptism is necessary for salvation (but does not ensure it as you must die in a state of grace).
  • There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.
So how can you be baptised and Catholic/deemed to be Catholic? There are 4 ways:
  • Sacramental Baptism as a Catholic
  • Baptism of Blood (non-Catholic dying for the Catholic Faith)
  • Baptism of Desire - Explicit (e.g. a catechumen going through RCIA)
  • Baptism of Desire - Implicit (invincible ignorance which means those who through no fault of their own do not know Christ, His Gospel, or His Church but still live a life according to the teachings of Christ in that ignorance)
You can debate who may or may not be included under invincible ignorance but outside the above 4 there is no salvation.

Not all Catholics go to Heaven but everyone in Heaven is Catholic.

See my post #29. You seem to be poorly catechised in the teachings of the Church.

Load of rubbish, heavens full of Christians of ALL denominations, stop being so elitist.

That is not elitist.
The Catholic Church was the only Church established by Christ and given authority in matters of faith and morals. All Church teachings have the full authority of Christ behind them.
All other churches were established by men and yours by Henry VIII because he couldn’t get a divorce.
The chaos in and teachings against Christ by the Anglican Communion is why many many priests and laymen are turning to the Catholic Church which has the fullness of truth.

God thinks all humanity is worth saving, rmt. But God established a Church by which grace is proffered.

Why would you want to be saved by some other method than that which God Himself established?

All who are in heaven are Catholic, whether they had their name on a parish registry or not.

There are no denominations in heaven though -everyone there understands the same universal truth. There is no argument in heaven. No division.

Considering how clear scripture is regarding what is necessary for salvation - believing/resting in Jesus Christ - I am honestly puzzled why there are sooo many denominations.

Reading the early church fathers illistrates how deeply important it was to them, for the congregations to remain together and not get divisive.

I’d say study protestant theology and manners as to better your current beliefs and life; there’s always something to learn from others. But don’t let it shake what you are already confident in.

I personally like reading and listening to protestant materials. I admire how they like their bible… 🙂

Just Love brother, everything else will follow.

Well, that rules out Jesus Christ. He was born a Jew,lived as a Jew, and died a Jew. He was never a catholic. Wonder where he went. Obviously cannot be in heaven.!!!

Jesus Christ fulfilled the Jewish faith by saving the Jews and giving them their eternal salvation. By accomplishing this, He proceeded to create the Holy catholic (universal) Church, in which He officially invited all of mankind to take part in His banquet of salvation.

Jesus Christ Is the foundation and the Head of the Catholic Church. He is also God -The Creator of Heaven. :o

I love Protestant too. what?
their sentimentality, their songs, their diversity.
I love them even when they are completely wrong when they interpret things on their way.
I love them when some of them are just looking for money, money, money.
I love them.
They are creatures of God.
And I follow the quotation of the roman poet Terence, in his play Heauton Timorumenos: “Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto”, meaning “I am a human being, I consider nothing that is human alien to me.” (taken from click here Terence
This has been my motto since I heard it in University many, many years ago.

Nowhere did Christ set out to create the holy catholic church, complete with popes with red gucci slippers and gold encrusted garments. Don’t you think he would think of the Pharisee. And nowhere can it be said that Christ was a Catholic.( defining a religion).
He was a jew. Christianity came later. Now we have Roman Catholics, Greek orthodox catholics, russian orthodox catholics, plus a plethora of other christian beliefs.
Who of these qualify for salvation. Only the Roman Catholics.? And that is before we start on the rest of humanity.
God gave us brains to use. I feel sure he did not expect us to blindly follow some medieval dictum. I cannot accept that God picks favorites.
