I’ve already made a thread about it, but I can’t seem to find it, but I’m having trouble again.
I don’t know why but I pray every night. It seems like it gets harder and harder to pray because the though constantly comes back into my mind.
“Is he real?”
“Why and how is he real?”
“Are you just wasting your time?”
I want to get these out of my head, and I’ve been fighting and fighting and I just need your prayers to help me.

Also, how do you guys believe in Jesus so confidently? Have you ever gotten these thoughts like me?

Thank you so much, bless you. Happy Thanksgiving by the way (:

I believe that all Christians will admit to experiencing doubt, if they are truthful. I might suggest that you read Peter Kreeft’s work on Aquinas, particularly on the proofs of God’s existence. God did not expect us to hang on through faith alone; this is why He gave us reason. When I have doubt I remember how logical it is that I have a Creator. I also find that when I share my faith with others, it grows stronger and a little bit bigger…like a mustard seed.

Reading Scripture is also great, and there are some good video clips and movies on YouTube that actually help me reflect on Christ, who He was and is. The movie “Paul the Apostle” is a good one, as is the “Jesus of Nazareth” movie. Here is an excerpt. God bless you!

Are you real? If He is not real, so are you. 🙂

By constant prayer, even when at times it feels empty. Also, contemplating His passion.

One of the things that I’d like to keep in mind when doubt of His existence enter my mind is to look at the first martyrs of the early Church. If he didn’t exist, then why did they have to die for their faith? Wouldn’t it be useless to suffer and die for someone who didn’t exist? So, who did they die for?

Precisely, and I assume you are referring primarily to those who knew Jesus firsthand. Why, indeed would they did for something they knew was not true!

[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 22: 37-39[/BIBLEDRB]**

I can think of no better or more spiritually rewarding endeavor than to spend time in the physical presence of Christ Himself. Find out when your parish offers adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Then, make the time and go sit in His presence. Contemplate. Ponder. Pray. Ask Him to reveal His presence to you. Then, just be as patient with Him as He has been with you. You might be amazed sooner, or maybe later, but when you are amazed, you will be changed.

Realize also that you are probably under spiritual attack. The evil one hates it when you are drawing nearer to the Lord, or seeking Him. It is then that the attacks will come, as the devil (also very real) senses that he is losing his grip on you. His weapons are doubt and discouragement. But, Christ is infinitely more powerful.

Steven

What you are experiencing is entirely normal.

Try sitting in front of the Blessed Sacrament in Adoration and ask Almighty God in Jesus’ Most Holy Name to reveal himself to you. Tell God of your struggles. He knows already anyway and desperately wants to unburden you and give you the sweet peace of Christ.

Remember Jesus did say “Come to me all you who labour and look for rest… for my burden is easy and my yoke is light”. Be patient. He will do it. Probably in a way you cannot even imagine.

Just ask.

Sit in front of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament quietly and just rest and bask in his Glorious and Radiant Light. Be open to his healing. Tell him everything. He will bless you and give you what you need.

Peace.

And may God Bless you.

Sometimes when we are doubting, we are actually being called into a deeper relationship. Our doubting can move us to find out more. If you care enough that you keep praying even when you doubt, that says a lot. Ask the Holy Spirit to stay close and guide you.

Well, faith comes from God. You cannot give yourself faith 🤷 You can stay open to God (since through reason alone one can know God with certainty) and learn about the Lord in the Gospels and in Sacred Tradition. There has been a point in your life in which your belief in Christ was so solid you could say you knew Christ. Such a moment brought forth my return into the Church. If I ever (God forbid) were to dwell on such thoughts, or if God, for mysterious reasons and my own sake, were to let me enter such a time of trial, then I would hold on to that one time in my life (though, unworthy as I am, I experienced a few of those times) and ignore all those questions on the faith of that one instant, just like the blind man would hear no reason from the teachers of the law and hold on to one fact: that man, Jesus, cured his eyes. But if I never had such an experience, or if I would forget it, then, because of what I have learned about Christ and the gospels, I would still follow Christ through a sheer act of will: that is, perhaps I would not know for a time (perhaps a long time) how to answer those questions, but I would choose Christ.

We all have gone (I think?) through crises of faith in our life. I certainly have, at least seriously, once. I asked myself those very questions. I considered with great seriousness (and, now, to my great shame) to give everything up. It felt “dark” inside, like nothing was real. Then one day, that is, when God willed it, I stopped short and realized one simple truth: it was of no use. To whom would I go? Only Christ has words of eternal life.
God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
Hold on to the faith more than you would hold on to your life: for even the dead find life in the words of Christ. Even the dead heard His voice, and those who listened received eternal life.

Who are we to judge His Divine Majesty by our imperfect thoughts and senses? We often forget that we are but blind people, “and if we say we are not blind, our sin remains”…we often forget that the Bride wears a veil until admitted into the heavenly banquet, where the Bridegroom will take it off, and “we will see Him face to face”…Kind enough is our Beloved in granting us more than we deserve, meaning the gift of His eternal presence in the Sacraments and in the Holy Eucharist, as well as extraordinary gifts of His sensible presence (ex. Eucharistic miracles, private revelations, and, sometimes, motions of the spirit upon reception of the sacraments) which manifest His divine presence.

Consider Our Lady after the angel spoke to her. Consider her the following morning. Imagine her waking up and sitting on the bed, pondering on what had happened. Had an angel truly appeared to her? And those words he spoke…my God, he spoke of bearing a child through the power of God…the son of the Most High…imagine her placing her hand upon her belly and thinking of the divine child…her son…was he already there, patiently growing unto the fullness of time when she would give birth? How could she be sure? But of course, Our Lady never had any doubts, because her yes to God, her fiat, was perfect. Once she said yes to God, that yes, like Christ’s amen, was beyond time.

Why isn’t our yes like that? Why us, imperfect creatures, so often give up the solemnity of our baptismal vows which should be eternal, and question the very reality of God? Surely it is part of our fallen nature, surely Christ understands us and forgive us…and even goes to great lengths to mercifully justify us before the Father…but us, we should remember that even love is only in part made of feelings…the rest is made of free will…of choices…of being willing to take risk…yes, the romance, at first…the passion…but then, when we think of matrimony, the questions come…how do I know that this is real? How do I know that she loves me? How do I even know that I love her? What if all of this is a waste of time? That is the dark time in which the presence of the Beloved won’t solve things…it is only us who can solve things, by making the definite choice…we are in Getsemane, in the darkness, alone…nobody there to help us…only one answer to give…may the Lord grant you light to understand the answer, the wisdom to trust like a child, and in the end, eternal salvation and the glory of His presence.

P.s.: try reading the Spiritual Canticle of St. John of the Cross.

I agree with Spritus1 and raaucoin, doubt is normal and often leads you to a deeper relationship with Christ once conquered.Religion was comfortably in the background of my life before starting the Sacrament of Confirmation. But once I started the preparation classes for it I began to doubt and wonder. I started researching and by the time I was ready to be Confirmed I had little doubt in my mind that God existed. By looking at scientific evidence and talking to former atheists on CAF the relatively brief period of doubt I experienced made me stronger in my faith.

I used to have those questions all the time and lived in a in a dark place because I wasn’t educating myself or opening up to God. If you truly open yourself to the Lord, he will speak to you. God wants us to question things and I promise you he will answer them. Not always how we want him to. If you continue to pray and learn about the gospel and what it means ( mainly unconditional love and devotion), you will not question his existence. You and I will question why he does things the way he does sometimes.
I get frustrated, especially with “worldly things” and continue to pray for patience and remind myself that God is in full control of everything. When you accept this, you will have that peace from God.
I wouldn’t encourage anyone to blindly follow anything, but the more you listen, learn, and believe, the more you will understand and be at peace spiritually.
I would encourage you to read the new testament for yourself and enroll in a RCIA program at your church.
I was miserable before I met my wife and I prayed endlessly to God to meet someone in my life. I was focused on my business at the time but met my wife through a mutual friend. She was and still is:rolleyes: way to good for me. We married later and now have another blessing I prayed for, a child.
I’m not saying there haven’t been a lot of bumps in the road, but I can tell you, only through prayer God always has answered me. I am so confident that God is real, especially in church, present in the Eucharist. I am confident God is real through the Holy Spirit. I know God is real because of the gospels. I know God is real through prayer.I know God is real from all the saints.I know God is real because of my wife and child. I am confident God is real because I am writing to **you **right now.

I still question a great deal of things about my Catholic faith and why God does or allows certain things to happen, but I never doubt his existence or his plan anymore.I feel the unconditional love from God. I just continue to pray to become a better Christian, husband, and father.
God Bless

Nothing other than Christ and His teachings, actually makes sense to me…

I’ve also been doubtful at times, but I feel as if God always answers my prayers and never lets me give up reaching out to Him. I don’t always understand why God lets certain things happen, but I truly belive that I can trust God to know that’s best for me and to lead me towards Him. 🙂

Still looking for some help:blush:
Steven,

Read what Christ says in the Bible on how to lead one’s life. Read closely.

Compare it with what others say how to lead one’s life…

Does He display the true meaning of Love or not?

I have found only Christ explains Life and Love in an understandable manner. All other ways of understanding Life and Love are contradictory or incoherent.

If what He says seems to be more true, continue to follow it. Test it. I believe by doing so your faith will be strengthened.

peace
steve

I understand. I will try this but it seems like our relationship is on and off. Sometimes I’m so confident that he does exist and stuff and I can pray so easily and talk to him. Other days I struggle to pray because that thought keeps lingering in my mind of “is he actually real?” “am I wasting my time?”
I need help ):
I am still praying daily and asking for his help also. I will not go a day without praying. 😃
Bless you all~

Hi Steven,
My faith in Mary is strong, but the question is what do you think about Mary?

Mary is not only Jesus’ mother, but our mother as well, that is of grace.
She appeared to a sister in Paris about 1840 and asked her to make a scapular,
a green one for hope, and to distribute it. Here is what Mary told the sister.

… Conversion of those who do not have the faith
… Reconciliation to the Church for those who have lost/strayed from the faith
… Assurance of a happy death
… Strengthening of the faith for those already in the Church <<<=======
… Protection from Satan for those who wear or promote the scapular

How does that sound to you? And all you have to do is to keep it on you and to say
a prayer each day; “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.”
And be sure and thank her each day as well.

You could put it in your wallet. Be sure and have it blessed.

It is her gift to you and she wants you to have it. That is her intention. You would be doing her a favor if you accept it from her. She loves you and wants to help. All you need to do is keep it on you, and have trust in her promise to you. She will do for you just as she promised if you trust her.

You do this and you will be fine, you have her word on it.

You can get a free one by googling “green scapular”.

There are so many books on this issue

he is real very real

look at the evidence of the Gospels and the unbelievers at the time

we have more evidence for Jesus than we have many many other people that have lived in our history

even secular historians have to accept the fact Jesus existed and they do!

I have worn a scapular for over 3 years. I have stopped due to them breaking, and just losing them. I have about 3 in my room but I dont seem to wear them anymore as I find them unstylish but I have no clue where to carry them! I wallet is a good idea. I was also thinking as a wrist band but I wouldent know. Any ideas?

I love to pray to Mary. I play basketball and for freethrows this is what I do for every single free throw I do.
Take 3 dribbles.
Look down and say “Saint Marry and Jesus”
I look up and focus and shoot the ball.

I am still trying very hard.
