I need to convince someone that gay marriage is wrong

Just let them be. And, for my final contribution, let me just say that I have been blessed with a beautiful son. I thank God every day for him, wise beyond his years and with a social consciousness that is every widening. He is also left-handed and gay. It is not a choice. First hand, I can tell you this. So, please, just let them be. And I address this also to the hierarchy. Let them be.

Homosexuality is not a choice. I know a few boys who found out at 12, 13, 14 years old. I don’t think, in fact, I know God wouldn’t send a child to hell at 13 years old for being attracted to the opposite sex.

Your question is defective since no one is arguing that God sends anyone to hell based on attraction alone. Attraction to one’s complimentary sex is normal and in line with God’s creation. Though homosexuality is a deviation from God’s original intended design (i.e. “he made them male and female” for the purpose of procreation), it is not a sin to simply have an attraction. What is a mortal sin and what does separate one from the life of God is when someone willfully lusts after someone whether regardless of what sex that person may be. (Mat 5:28; Rom 1:26-32; 1 Cor 6:9-10; Lev 18:22)

Obviously, to go forward from that lust in one’s heart and actually commit the lusted after action is a sin with an even greater gravity, but nonetheless with the same result, eternal separation from God unless one repents and confesses that sin through the means God has established for doing so: the sacrament of confession (unless exempted by moral or physical impossibility in which case perfect contrition with a desire to go to confession at next opportunity is required).

God is just and perfect, and we must realize that we cannot compare ourselves or our actions to those around us, for we will not be judged whether we were better than so-and-so. We will be judged based on the standard of God’s holiness. That must be our constant comparison regardless of one’s sexual orientation. SSA, regardless if it is inborn or fostered, does not somehow lower God’s standard of holiness required to attain eternal life. It, like all sin, can be overcome through Christ (Phillipians 4:13).

There is no such thing as “ex-gay”. We are all God’s creatures and He loves us all with unconditional love. As the great saints have reflected, they know that, no matter how hard they try, they can never love God as much as God loves them. And one’s sexual orientation does not come into the discussion. With all the problems facing the world and God’s people, I wonder how so many will still focus primarily on gay-marriage. It is a mystery to me.

I find it highly interesting how people preach about God’s love that is to be freely accepted or rejecetd and then try to control other people’s lives through worldly means.
