Please move if this is the wrong section.

There is a “friend” of mine on Facebook who is complaining about
California’s gay marriage ban. He’s saying that gays are being denied rights and he has NO moral compass.
I cannot convince him by using religious reasons (unless I pull out my bomb, which is practically an essay, proving that God exists, Jesus is God, He founded the Church, and therefore the Church is infallible)

So I need some worldly reasons.
He has no respect for the U.S. Constitution.
He cares more about state laws and “gay rights”
He whines about over-population
And he is convinced that the gay “marriage” movement is about getting the benefits that come with getting married. Rather than the definition.

I am convinced that its about jealousy. Since they won’t settle for unions, but have to go for the definitions.

On a side note,…if someone can answer this as well.
Is it moral for a woman who has gone through menopause to get married? That became part of the argument, too.

please and thank you

“Television programs will start to show homosexual “marriages” as wonderful and happy (even as they continue to show heterosexual marriages as oppressive and conflict-ridden).”

That reminds me of what one movie critics said about ‘Philadelphia’ - the guy was one of the best movie critics in my country and was by no means a conservative - but he labelled that movie as homosexual propaganda - something that didn’t strike me before - but well, Tom Hank’s character has this really ideal, wonderful relationship with his parter, who is there for him all the time - even by his death bed - somehow it is hard for me to imagine that any relationship would not go through some hard times after one of the partners would announce that they were HIV-positive…

I will not comment on the issue but on your interesting view on infallibility. Remember, the Church is also made up of human beings, who can be wrong. The earth is not flat and is not the center of the universe, as of last report. Peter and Paul had issues way back in the early Church and certainly the early Councils had a lot of problems in trying to get things right.
But the Holy Spirit is there still to guide us, as Our Lord promised, and will never leave us–so we can have faith that any controversies will, in the end, be resolved in His love and guidance.
Peace!

That was the a insightful and thurough article,
a couple of things caught my attention, and really just captured what the gay agenda is throwing at us.
The first is, the deep dark secret, many of them were victims of molestation, lack of parental stability, and confusion.

The second, was how the courts have totally disregarded what a family is. And have tooken it upon themselves and redefine it. The fact that many SSC want to usurp the roles of what a tradtional family is.

For what its worth, scientifically has it been proven ever that all SSA is from birth?

Homosexual “Marriage” and Civilization
Hey, brilliant essay!!

I read the whole text, and I think it´s an astonishingly lucid explanation of the “usefulness” of the family, from a purely anthropological point of view.

As I read, I thought to myself, “this chap really has a way with words”. When I noticed that the author was Orson Scott-Card I understood why! I used to be into Sci-fi in a BIG way, and this author is one of the best. 👍

Show him formers homosexuals, most homosexuals dont know about them and are told that they are born gay

Show him formers homosexuals, most homosexuals dont know about them and are told that they are born gay

Many homosexuals are ex-ex-gay.

Just goes to show how unstable they really are…

Eph 4:14 That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive.

Homosexuality is not a choice. I know a few boys who found out at 12, 13, 14 years old. I don’t think, in fact, I know God wouldn’t send a child to hell at 13 years old for being attracted to the opposite sex.
I am a female and not gay, but I’ve listened to others stories and realize that you do find out when you are very young.
In Canada, there is a law now that if someone reads a Scripture passage to a gay man and starts yelling he is headed for damnation as do a certain non-Catholics do, he will be fined 5,000 dollars, an apology is needed, and ,if necessary, the gay man can take them to court. Gays are a protected species in Canada.
Only God can judge, not us.

Ephesians 5:30-32
30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."32This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

If Saint Paul uses the illustration of marriage to describe Christ’s relationship with his church and Jesus is the faithful husband (male) and she the church is the bride (female) homosexual marriage can not exist in the bounds of orthodox Christian theology.

If they want to say that denying them something that we as Christians beleive doesn’t exist is a human rights violation, we can just as easily say that they by calling something what it isn’t and ignoring any theological stand on it, is religous persecution.

BTW, I am NOT for gay marriage. The morality in this country is going to hell in a handbasket, but I do not condone gay people. In the Catechism of the Catholic church it says to respect them.
We are the most tolerable religion around for gay people. But in Baptist churches, they simply tell you you are going to hell. Let Jesus decide.

There is no such thing as “ex-gay”. We are all God’s creatures and He loves us all with unconditional love. As the great saints have reflected, they know that, no matter how hard they try, they can never love God as much as God loves them. And one’s sexual orientation does not come into the discussion. With all the problems facing the world and God’s people, I wonder how so many will still focus primarily on gay-marriage. It is a mystery to me.

I agree on your last three sentences also.

Ok…well, here’s what I’m getting from all this…

Gay marriage doesn’t matter…
And Menopause has nothing to do wtih anything…

First…I must say that I am confused by what some people are saying here.

Second, marriage is founded on life and love. A woman who knows she is sterile and marries a man who wants kids has just given that man good reason to seek an annulment.
I had focused my argument against gay marriage on the definition of marriage and life’s role in it. I used menopause and sterility as an example of love without life in marriage. Or rather, the reasons for marriage.
so would I be right if I said that people who are sterile and have already gone through menopause shouldn’t get married? or would I be wrong?

I made sure that I said I wasn’t sure about THAT . But i’d like to be sure.

EDIT:
I just got this from him, and I want to be able to counter it effectively.
*"Oh my God, you will never understand. Who cares about politics, you’re incredibly insecure that you have to be so disgustingly insensitive. I don’t care if I’m going to hell or if you think Obama is terrible. I’m gay, I’ll keep being gay and no matter what you do or who you make feel like ***, gay couples will one day be equals in this country and you will become one of those people that kids will be astonished ever existed. Just like slave-owners and people who once thought that black people shouldn’t marry, or that women shouldn’t vote, your kind of hatred will fade away."

It kinda funny since I didn’t know he was gay. But I can tell he’s running out of material. I counter everything else he says, and now he’s talking “hate”

It doesn’t seem so much that you ‘need to convince someone that gay marriage is wrong’ somehow, as it does that you want to reassure yourself that you’re right. If you were convinced, wouldn’t you have already educated yourself on the usual excuses as to why it’s an abomination? The sterility/menopause objection is such a basic one that you’d have had it covered as best possible if you’d had any interest in the subject before.

It’s not about your ‘friend’, if one can call him that – at least you sure aren’t being much of a friend to him. It’s about you. You’re uncomfortable with the existence of opposing points of view, but uncertain as to how to deal with them. And so, not having anything else to go on, you try to steamroll it – and you may take my word for it that you’ll fail utterly if you keep going this way.

You think he envies the rights and privileges afforded straight people? Perhaps he does (hell, I would, if I’d fallen in love with someone with a matching set of bits), but you – you’re hardly an innocent yourself; the Church is a hospital for sinners, is it not? Your own sins and shortcomings seem to color your perception of him: pride, in that you will not accept a debate on equal terms; cowardice, in that you run for help to people whom you think may know better how to argue than yourself, instead of facing the question with what courage and conviction you might have; and willful ignorance, in that you refuse to consider your acquaintance’s motives and beliefs at face value, instead imposing your own ideas of what his ‘agenda’ is.

Give up. You are not going to win anything, and you’re only demeaning yourself by trying. The best result I can see from this is that you will become estranged from someone you call a friend. Maybe later you might find it appropriate to talk about the subject – but not until you have done some research and soul-searching of your own. Know why your faith frowns upon other forms of marriage instead of begging for help when you get put on the spot. Understand the difference your faith places between a sterile heterosexual couple and a homosexual couple – even why, to Catholicism, that’s a red herring from the start (between you and me, they’re wrong to consider it so, but… try to figure out why that is for yourself 😉 ). And above all, watch out for that plank in your eye.

St Francis of Assisi said ‘preach the gospel always; use words when necessary’. It’s a lesson a lot of Christians could use. Were I you, I’d take it to heart.

My opinion is: Let live & let die !!
Let there be homosexuals , and leave them alone !!

The gays you see on TV at party’s like the gay parade , oh boy …
I cannot convince him by using religious reasons (unless I pull out my bomb, which is practically an essay, proving that God exists, Jesus is God, He founded the Church, and therefore the Church is infallible)
An excuse to protect yourself behind ??

I don’t understand some religious people , yes , gays may exist , but get married , no way !!
Who has told you that ??
What gives you the right to attack & humiliate them ??
And what about Freedom Of Speech ??
And the right to live ??

Look , I really don’t mind they exist or get mary ,
I leave them , or I don’t give them any special treatment / attention !!

And what if you got a couple of gay friends ,
what will or what you’re gonna do about them
if they marry ??
I am convinced that its about jealousy. Since they won’t settle for unions, but have to go for the definitions.
If you’re kid(s) are gay ??
On a side note,…if someone can answer this as well.

I really don’t get this one !!
Only get married if you can make kids ??
What about hetero people who can’t have kids ??

Salute & Cheers from a NON BELIEVER:
