I don’t think you can boil down everything to communion in the hand, but you do make a good point. I do receive in the hand myself, and I think some priests like giving it that way because it’s not so pleasant to put it on the tongue.
There are a lot of societal factors that are affecting people’s attitudes though. Look at the changes in the past 50 years, with the dramatic increase in the influence of the mass media on folks, with it’s secular, consumeristic agenda. The sexual revolution, BCP, television fastfood generation, women in the workforce, etc… So, I don’t think you can blame communion in the hand for all the ills of the church.
But, universal communion on the tongue would avoid some problems, such as this.
