I strongly suggest that you prove purgatory before preaching it.

Ok, well I was thinking I would just stay out of this, but I just can’t stand it.

Good for you.
Rev. Marty, this is just untrue. This is not
if you read the Bible you read what is required of you, and anything you have is empty, be it works, good deeds, money all pointless, " to obey is better than vain sacrifice"

“work out your salvation with fear and trembling” or do not do that and disobey God’s word!

It really is that simple!

Anyone who believes in “Blessed Assurance” fools themself.

They don’t know that they’re really not saying “Jesus is mine” but “Presumption is mine”.

That’s a sin against the Holy Spirit!

It really is that simple!

And John 3:16 is mistranslated with “shall” when it really is “may”.

That’s a lie! It really is that simple!

“He gave the right TO BECOME”–nowhere does it say that He gurantees that conversion or the beginning of the journey will necessarily end with perseverance.

That’s why Paul tells us to run the race to the finish.

It really is that simple!

“Not everyone who says Lord Lord will inherit the kingdom of heaven but those who have DONE the will of My Father in heaven”.

People won’t say Lord Lord unless they really have known the Lord at some time in their lives–those who haven’t wouldn’t call upon the Lord–

But that doesn’t mean that having once known him and having in the past believed in Him that they CONTINUED that belief until the end and guess what?

They don’t inherit the kingdom of Heaven even though they have believed.

It really is that simple!

Many benefit from hearing all these truths that the Catholic Church teaches to keep people from the sin of "Blessed Assurance’ or “Presumption against the Holy Spirit”!

The Catholic Church shows people the way to avoid Hell and one of the best ways is to realize that a personal relationship with Christ based on belief instanteously for one moment does not make a race to the finish!

That’s not complicated to understand–it is as simple as James 2:24!

“Faith Alone” never has saved anybody.

It really is that simple!

Yes I do, John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life"

John 1:12 “To all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God”

Acts 16:3 1believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved

it is so simple you need the C.C to complicate it, who benifits from that?
Wow, do you know what you just said? You just said that you have the infallible certitude of God.

No human has an infallible certitude, unless God gives them a personal revelation. Only God alone knows with infallible certitude who will be saved. You might want to rethink your answer, it doesn’t add up with reason nor logic, I’m afraid.

revmarty, in your response to Debra C., you completely ignored her main point, which is that you were misrepresenting the Catholic doctrine of purgatory. It is not a second chance. It is only for the saved.
But how do you kow if they are in hell or heaven?
We don’t. But God does.

Purgatory just makes sense, is God just let anybody fall through
the cracks down to Hell, Purgatory is God’'s safety net.🙂

So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
(Romans 7)

My soul wishes to do good, and serve God
My flesh makes me commit sin

My soul goes to heaven
My flesh rots in the ground

More the reason to believe in Purgatory, man Just can’t stop sinning !

but once sinful flesh is stripped from God fearing soul, why must I be further purified?

“And so he condemned sin in the flesh” Romans 8:3b

I remember reading where Jesus told St.Gertrude the Great that for a Penny one could pay for thousand dollars worth of sins in this life, but in Purgatory it will cost you thousand dollars to pay for Penny’s worth of sin.

then I ask, if Jesus said it, why isn’t it in the New Testament?

Sin begins in the human will, which is a faculty of the soul. Soul and body are united into one human nature. It is not just the body that is a fallen nature, but the soul as well. And sin affects not only the body but also the soul. Inclinations toward sin reside in the soul as well as the body.

if so, provide an alternate interpretation for the split personality of paul in the passage above

“Come to terms quickly with you accuser while you are on your way to court with him,or your accuser may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the prison guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you,you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.”
Luke 5 :25-26

how does that passage have anything to do with anything other than how we treat one another? the two commandments:
  1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body, soul
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself
(Matthew 22:34-40)

in that passage he is expounding on how to live out command 2

(btw, thats in Matthew 5:25-26)

then I ask, if Jesus said it, why isn’t it in the New Testament?
John 21:24-25 (King James Version)

This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

“Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31**But these are written that you may[a] believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
**
John 20:30-31

So everything I need to know to be saved is contained in John, and purgatory, nor any evidence, is in John. So then why is purgatory, even if it existed (which there is no evidence of), important?

John cuts both ways

I do think its funny that whenever I press a catholic on scripture, they almost always end with that verse…its a shame it doesn’t end anywhere else

All I read is a judge putting somebody in prison to pay one’s debt.

But hey, Techno2000, it really has been fun, thanks for going tit-for-tat with me, I really respect people who will

Wheres the evidence of Heaven or Hell ?
I like this one:Latin Vulgate
Douay-Rheims Bible 2 Machabees 12:
Second Book Of Machabees

46 It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.
