It was quite a bit later than fourth century. The ancient Roman Empire fell in 476, and the Church did not have such secular influence until 800 AD, when Pope Leo III crowned the Frankish king Charlemagne as Emperor, reviving the title in Western Europe. This was when the Church became completely conflated with the State, resulting in heretics being considered treasonous. The death penalty was never given by the Church for heresy (just excommunication), but when this overlap occurred, up until the Reformation, Rulers considered unity of faith essential to peaceful society.
A very innovative way to fulfill the Great Commission!

I am sure Jesus saw this coming, which is why He said His Kingdom was not of this world. Human beings as they are just can’t help but conflate their natural tendencies and ways of thinking with the will of God. Nicodemus comes to mind, and his confusion over how a person could enter again into his mother’s womb to be born again. Sometimes we are such a bunch of dummies.

It is no wonder Jesus exclaimed “How long must I put up with you!”

They did get it right that Jesus’ message is intended to change the whole of a persons life, and infiltrate every fiber of being, as well as every step of the day. We are to live our faith in the marketplace, in politics, at work, at home, etc.

Sometimes I see the Church as our Mother’s womb. We being the body of Christ, the Church forms & nourishes us spiritually.

The idea of church was foreign to Nicodemus. His confusion, I think, was warranted.

His confusion, I think, was warranted.
My point was that Jesus was speaking of spiritual truths regarding water baptism. Of course his confusion was warranted, but we see innumerable examples of this confusion throughout history. For example, does Jesus want Christians of different nationalities or sects killing one another in the name of God (Protestants and Catholics in Ireland, for example)?

Is Jesus pleased with charging heretics with treason, torturing them, banishing them, or putting them to death in His name?

One could argue He must be if His Church which is perfect and without error did those things.

Perfection of the Church will only happen at the end of this age. Human beings are always in need of reform (unlike the doctrine of Christ, which is not).

What Jesus promised the Church is the Breath of God, which He Himself blew into the fledgling Church. It is the Teachings of Jesus that are without error, not necessarily the persons charged with promulgating them.

Jesus goal for all of us is perfection, but for most of us, it is a long, hard road, and mistakes are made. This does not change the perfection that resides infallibly in His Teachings.

So please help me convert her with something persuasive against the Baptist church and show that the Baptist church is the not the Church Christ founded.
The first thing you must accept is that you cannot convert your mother - only the Holy Spirit can convert the heart of another. All you could ever do is share Christ with her openly and pray for her conversion.

At this stage, learn what you can about the faith, and share why YOU want to convert. Ask to your parents to let you speak with a parish priest or parish staff about conversion and the obligations of being Catholic. If they let you, then great! Live your faith openly and be an example to them.

If they absolutely forbid it, then know that through your baptism, you are already a member of Christ’s body, and that you can always convert when you are of age.
