Today is the 99th birthday of Prince Philip , Duke of Edinburgh , a day he will spend quietly with the Queen .

When they went to visit Pope Francis Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip presented the Pope with a hamper made up of produce from their estate in Balmoral in Scotland . Typical of Prince Philip his eyes and hands are on the Balmoral Whisky which he shows Pope Francis .

More unusually here we see Prince Philip with a bouquet of flowers . It was in 1989 when he was greeted by a worshipper at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur after he stepped in for the Queen who was unable to attend because she wasn’t well .

Yes @Greenfields , your seasons are not our seasons . I hope you get plenty of daffodils to add beauty to life down under . They are one of my favourites .

I have just been for a walk and wild roses are in bloom .

In my early teens , in my attempt to make a nice garden for my grandma , i dug up a wild rose from down the clough and planted it in the back garden . Mr Rigby , a neighbour who was a good gardener , told my grandma to tell me to dig it up and throw it away . He said it wasn’t good for the garden . I didn’t understand why , but I dutifully dug it up . He probably meant that they can be quite invasive .

But I still love wild roses .

I still have one in the garden Rob :sweat_smile:When my children were little and we moved to our new house we obtained permission to dig up plants from an old abandoned garden (the house was long gone) Some of the roses were quite nice rootstock ,a mass of little blooms, another a ‘dog Rose’ that I’ve cut back to base every year and it leaps up again:)

Because of Covid-19 there was no Chelsea Flower Show this year , but here are some pictures of past shows .
