I want to leave the Church because God won't help me find a spouse

There is someone from my parish (he’s about 50 now) who kept emailing me all sorts of vents badmouthing the parish about how the Church needs to change its rules on marriage to keep up with the world and how he’s going to just go to a judge to get married if necessary, etc., etc. I finally asked him if he’s upset that he couldn’t find a wife within the Catholic Church, and he replied in the affirmative.

Another friend talks about dating secular women and makes jokes about situations where she could lead him astray. Another is open to non-Catholic women as long as they have traditional values. I ask about the risk to their soul, but they seem willing to risk it, because they can’t find what they are looking for among Catholics (even after online Catholic dating sites), so they are open to looking elsewhere.

I think before people start spouting cliches and condescending remarks (I wonder what a victim of the sexual abuse scandal would think when he or she hears a remark like “Every time I hear some body saying that they left church because of some bad experience they had with a person, I just wonder who their faith was really in…”), people need to remember the lesson of the story of Jacob and Esau: when people are really hungry, they will sell their birthright for a bite to eat.
