Now THAT’S powerful! *“Calling our **very being **into question… makes the longing for it seem downright indecent.” *

Want to guess who said that? I’ll tell ya… Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger in his the interview-book *Salt of the Earth *(1997). Gee, I’ve been saying that for years. Looks like I’m in good company, eh? 👍

That’s a good blog post, Cavey. I’m with the Pope on this one. It’s time to return Catholicism to the Catholic Church. I guess that makes me a rad trad.

Anyone who professes such an antiquated belief is on a “Schismatic Trajectory”.:eek:
I love that sophism…kinda like a misguided Guided Missile.

One is called a rad-trad if one says that they don’t have to listen to the Pope.

Disobedience to lawful authority, lawfully exercised = mirror worship.

Which pope? The dead ones or the current one only??
BTW: JPII is deceased now. May his encyclicals find the same immortality and current relevance in the church’s teaching repertoire as Blessed Pius IX’s Quanta Cura and ST. Pius X’s Pascendi Dominici Gregis

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t “rad trad” a prohibited term here?

Here is a good blog post from Abbey Roads that defines the different groups (levels) of traditionalists.
Rad-Trad: This group often out and out refuse to accept the changes “perpetrated” by Vatican II, especially as regards the Mass, although they remain obedient to their Bishops and the Pope. Many tend to regard all the reforms of Vatican II as the triumph of Modernism, so vehemently condemned by previous Popes, most notably Pius X. They pretty much hold suspect much of the theological thought after 1960. (I sure can’t hold that against them.) These faithful souls would be some of the last people on earth willing to support the canonization of John Paul II, who definitely was not “great” in their eyes. They remain, to be sure, faithful and devout Catholics nonetheless.

Some don’t accept any pope since 1959.
Some don’t accept our current Pope.

The dictatorship of relativism has hit those who call themselves “traditionalist” so that it makes the term very hard to pin down.

I define a real traditionalist: One who prefers the Classical Roman rite, and Classical practices (prior to V2) while at the same time being in full communion with the Pope.

The rest are fakes.

Yup.

And I don’t like the term either. It is meaningless.

There are real trads or fake trads.
From forum rules:

The only exception to this rule is that “radical Traditionalist” or “ultra-Traditionalist” may be used to identify segments within the Traditional Catholic movement. Such terms may not be used in a derogatory fashion and may not be used to insult fellow members. This rule will be rigorously enforced.

I don’t like the term “radical traditionalist” or “ultra traditionalist” either. It seems to imply that the schismatic types are more “traditionalists” than the real ones.

So you don’t agree with the definition of rad trad I posted from Terry’s Abbey Roads blog?

relativism:
A theory, especially in ethics or aesthetics, that conceptions of truth and moral values are not absolute but are relative to the persons or groups holding them.

**Catholic Encyclopedia, **Relativism:
Any doctrine which denies, universally or in regard to some restricted sphere of being, the existence of absolute values, may be termed Relativism.
Thus one form of Relativism asserts that we are conscious only of difference or change (Hobbes, Bain, Höffding, Wundt. Cf. Maher, “Psychology”, 6th ed., p. 91).
Another asserts that truth is relative, either (a) because judgments are held (i) to have no meaning in isolation and (ii) to be subject to indefinite modification before they can become embodied in the one coherent system of ideal truth (Joachim and Hegelians generally), or else (b) because truth is conceived as a peculiar property of ideas whereby they enable us to deal with our environment more or less successfully (Pragmatists).

So, Traditionalists “deny the existence of absolute values”???

Say What???

Nice. When I think “radical traditionalist” I think of those who are either expressly not in communion with the living hierarchy of the Catholic Church or who, while not stating exlicitly stating an intention to separate, act with complete independence from any living ecclesiastical authority.

'Traditionalists" are those who prefer previous forms of certain rites, as well as other traditional devotions and art that have been neglected by large segments of the Church in our time.

Those who are struggling with various points of faith, but who desire to be in full communion with the lawful hierarchy, are regular Catholics (I willing to be most Catholics who care about truth have struggled to understand a doctrine or two now at some point)–and they fall into both the general population of the Church and those who bear the traditionalist banner.🙂

I’m a segment.
The rest are having a movement n I ain’t within it cause I ain’t movin.

I have just come back from a retreat as in St Ignatius type. 6 days of contemplation, prayer and silence. Great for the soul.

So I call myself a Traditionalist. However I have only been catholic for 4 years. I pray for the Pope every day, as do all of the congregation. Still say daily Rosary.

Love the Latin Mass, which was the only thing that could have made me switch from High Anglican in which I grew up in.

I am proud to be called a traditionalist.

Great book for both sides of the fence.

Real trads don’t.

Fake trads do. They’re protestants in Catholic clothing. And we’ve seen how the dictatorship of relativism works there.
