Dear FoA,

That what this forum is for, I believe. We compare our interpretations and our belief. By no mean that I force my interpretation or you force yours. By making comparisons, let us not accuse or judge one another. I welcome your interpretation no matter how different it is. God bless you FoA, God bless you also, all of my brothers/sisters here in this forum.
Ok, thanks.

We don’t need to get into details but if the Church knew best it wouldn’t have allowed the sex scandals to keep going on. It was made worse because it is placed on so high a pedestal then when it topples it shakes everyone’s faith. So I don’t put my faith in any religion, only what I see myself from the derived teachings.
The sex scandals were a terrible thing. But you know what every formal religion is going to have problems like this. Because the Church is made of sinful humans of course it is going to have problems. However what it believes (I do as well) is true. The sex scandals were a terrible thing however I have hope (I’m trying really hard here not to pass judgment) that God will give these evil priests what they deserve. I know that however the Catholic Church does not support this kind of behavior.

For me that’s the problem with saying I’m Christianity, I’m Islam, I’m Judaism. Then I have to take on everyone else’s sins, I’m an idolater or terrorist or antichrist. I have enough sins of my own to worry about.

But for now I say I’m Muslim because it accepts all three religions in some form.

Dear Holden,

If God allows me to kick their butt, I will be happy to do so. Too bad, Jesus said “Thou who made no sin, may cast the first stone”. Gee, I should be the first to withdraw in shame.

Anyone who stereotypes one based on their faith is guilty of sin. I don’t think that when you belong to a religion you carry the sins of other members in fact I think that you should try to help keep the other members from sin.

I know we shouldn’t stereotype, but it happens anyway. Then I spend a lot of my time defending what others in the religion have done, rather than focusing on what I believe from the basic doctrines of those religions. And I think we can help everyone even if they don’t belong to our religions. But anyway, just my 2 cents.

I have to disagree with you, however I respect you for having a religion. All to often today people are atheist. I think this is very wrong.

Valke,
I thought that being in the image and likeness of God means that we have an immortal soul, intellect, reason, and emotion. We are capable of decerning right from wrong, and we have true free will. For some reason, I always thought we got this concept from our Jewish past. Am I incorrect?

**That is good if the Catholic church does not believe and support the bad deeds. But when a system is basically wrong, when you have unmarried mothers and unmarried fathers and the church generally taught the life of celibacy then it went wrong there. Why the church supported unmarried life??

That is unnatural. I feel that church also considers the mating of a husband and wife as a sin. That is all wrong. Perhaps you can explain it otherwise. But I being a Muslim without prejudice against the church, in good faith, I am telling what I have just written that Mating of the husband and wife is not a sin.

If it is a sin then what use is the marriage?**

Those are Jewish concepts, yes. I don’t disagree. One of the first things I learned when studying Talmud was that when a bunch of rabbis have different answers to the same question, it means we don’t really know. 🙂 Btw, you forgot to add that we are creators. We are also namers. One of the first thing God has Human do is name all the beasts. It may be these two things more than anything else which account for us being created in His image.

🙂 hi planten; first off we are kinda off topic. since you mention it. at no time in the history of the church did it ever teach marriage was a bad thing. when the church teachs on clebicy it means only for those are leading the general believers. or in the case of sisters Christ is thier groom. with no other earthly attachments. the church has never taught pro-creation was a sin. Pro-creation outside of the state of marriage it is a sin.

As long as we’re off topic, why is pro creation outside of marriage a sin?

True. We also are to be the caretakers of creation.

Yes, only not interpreted with Jesus as deity, but Jesus as a human who God dwelled in as a prophet, then raised up to rule like God over us and be High Priest to make atonement for our sins. But still as a servant to the one God.
Hmm, which denomination of Islam are you? I had many sunni friends when i was in my early twenties and most of them including the Imam at the mosque near here would not agree with your view that “God dwelled in” Jesus or that He made atonement for anything or that he was resurrected. The Quran is very specific that Jesus never even died on the cross, that it was a likeness of Jesus. Also the Quran is very specific on Jesus not being Gods only begotten Son, even though God himself says “This is my beloved Son, 13 with whom I am well pleased”, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” “And the Word became flesh 9 and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth”

I know this response is a bit off topic for this post but i kind of jumped in this post at the last moment because a few things caught my eye.

I’m Quran only, I reject the pop Muslim traditions.

Oh ok so you reject the hadith and sunnah, reminds me of the people in Tucson Arizona, there is a whole group of people with your views there, they have a website at submission.org i believe (make sure you type in the .org or you will be taken to a different site). Be careful though many people with your views get killed in islamic countries your really a serious minority. In fact i recall when i spoke with a woman at the website mentioned above that there were only a few thousand people in the world with a Quran only perspective about 200 or so which are members of the mosque in Tucson.

I guess for me scripture is pretty cut and dry on who Jesus is. “The Word was God”, and “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”. It doesnt take leaping bounds of intellectualism for me to see that God became flesh from that information above.

Yeah I’ve been told I should die by some of them. Muslims are probably the worst for just repeating what their leaders tell them and not thinking for themselves.

Marriage is not a sin. However if one wants to abstain from marriage to lead a more Holy life how can you condemn them for this. If the are not strong enough to be celibate then they should not be. This is why the Church practices celibacy.
