Examine your conscience, @goodcatholic. And then, be totally honest with yourself. Remember, you’re going to be standing before God one day
Let’s slow down a minute and take a good look at this post. Can you see the way it accuses as if it is sinless itself?
Let he or she without sin cast the first stone, might apply to a lot of posts I read on CAF.

I haven’t read a post yet which convinces me that telling the “ruthless truth” all the time is a good thing. The right thing in fact.

I’m quite pedestrian so the reality is that you may have a huge edge over me; however, knowledge does not always translates to wisdom.

“If push comes to shove I choose conscience over Church teaching”

Do you recall who has been fighting for “freedom of conscience?”

Yet, this “freedom of conscience,” by necessity, demands that the conscience be a “well-formed conscience.”

When we toy with the idea that the Church has too much Doctrine and demands we are basically declaring that we hold God’s Revelation in a far grander measure than His Founded Church–yeah, I’m that pedestrian.
I respect Church teachings but I don’t see a need to follow them to the letter of the law all the time. The spirit of the law is more important too.
Do you not see the conflict with this statement?

No one has said that is the right thing to do. No where does the Church teach that. Remember, like you said, it’s about discretion. We should all remember: “let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” James 1:19. This is where I’m confused…are you actually saying you think the Church teaches this?

He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils. Psalm 13:3

“As soon as I open my mouth, I put my foot in it!”

I think conscience has to be chosen over teaching sometimes. We are never suppose to steal but my conscience would probably let me steal to feed a starving person. We aren’t suppose to lie, but my conscience would compel me to lie to the Nazi authorities if I was hiding Jews.

So the lady goes out thinking that she’s the “it” or whatever goes for “it” today; only her “friends” pretend that she’s the coolest while everyone else are horrified at her grungy or whatever look she’s sporting… her nemesis makes sure that everyone in the building knows how awful she looks and she cuts her day short because she’s having a conniption–but it was good that her husband and her “friends” lied to her…

After this lie, the husband continues his trek lying about everything everywhere; even when kneeling in “the booth” he manages to convince himself that for the good of other he needs not Confess his sins… so one day, with you next to him, he is found at the pearly gates where both you and him are given a ticket to not enter… but of course neither of you saw that coming so you both demand a recount!

We could answer with the Wisdom of Solomon and it wouldn’t matter :man_shrugging:t2: There’s something going on that the OP doesn’t wish to discuss and he doesn’t like the answers being given. Sooo… I’m grabbing another beer 🍻

But when opinion differs from the Faith–the Faithful must chime in with a response; otherwise you may believe that your opinion reigns supreme.
