This is what I am talking about with a shallow understanding of His word. The word rememberance in Hebrew holds a much deeper meaning than a simple recollection or “calling to mind.” The Hebrews of the old testament held a passover meal in rememberance of the passover. They didn’t believe that they were simply remembering what happened, they were making it new again, living it with their ancestors. When Christ says to His apostles, “Do this in rememberance of me.” They understood it with a much deeper meaning than an evangelical protestant of 21st century does. As Catholics, we believe in exactly the same way as the Jews who lived and walked with Christ.
As Catholics, we make present the sacrifice of the Lord. When the priest says the words of consecration, the sacrifice that takes place on the altar is one in the same as the one that took place on Calvary 2000 years ago.
It is important to read scripture through glasses of the ancient world in which it was written, rather than through the glasses of the time in which one lives.
