I want to know if you were the pope, would you free it up? if you had nothing to hinder you, would you? i would.

Right now, it is up to the bishops. If I felt the bishops wanted it expanded I would. Flame away, but that’s how I see it.

Only men can be pope. So, if you were a man, and you were the pope would you free it?
Of course. But I would make it freely available and do much more to return the Church to her traditional roots. The French and German bishops wouldn’t like me at all. 😉

I would not free up the TLM for general Roman Rite usage. The training is different, and the theology differs (though very slightly).

I would instead establish a separate Tridentine Rite with separate hierarchy and a Major Archbishop and Synod. This would, of course, require a Western General Council, but that isn’t an impossibility.

Courtesy of the V II decisions on the eastern rites, it’s a no-brainer that diversity in theology & liturgy, provided dogmatic issues are in union, is good.

Further, it would open the door to the SSPX to repudiate their schism, and know that their beloved liturgy is protected. Allow the Tridentines the permanent status to be just that, and the Modern Romans to be Modern Romans.

No, or maybe for a short time in the interim.

I’d ‘reform’ the NO (a really BIG reform) starting again from the 1961/2 (or maybe 1953) books so that it is a more organic development.

I’ll be attending my very first TLM next Sunday, so I’ll get back to this thread then.
😉

I said yes because I think the Church is in desparate need of a shot in the liturgical arm (Benedict XVI thinks so as well), and the TLM may provide that.

I’m not sure how I could possible answer yes or no. I’m sure I would be asking the Holy Spirit for counsel on the matter as I’m sure that the current Holy Father does. Beyond that, it’s not in my purview to know what God wants the Holy Father to do. My preference would be yes but that may not God’s.🤷

Before anything else, I would order in law all priests and bishops to take an oath against modernism.

I’d even go so far as to make the Novus Ordo a lot less Novus and a bit more traditional. But alas the Holy Spirit didn’t inspire the College of Cardinals to elect me pope. I guess the Holy Spirit knows who’s best to be pope and is inspiring Pope Benedict XVI our papa to make the best choices for the church. The choices that will lead more to God and not away from Him and His church.

I would actually make it a requirement that at least one Mass per Sunday at every church be a High Mass and every Saturday evening Mass a Low Mass. I don’t think that would be too hard for everyone involved.

I still have to snicker that anyone could possibly pick yes or no. As many popes have shown us in the past, a lot of things change when you become pope. Our current pope should be enough of an example of this. Remember how everyone thought he was going to come in turn everything on its head in two minutes? While I wish that he had (just my personal preference), it would seem that the liberals and conservatives were wrong.

I think that would be a little difficult since many priests don’t know the Traditional Latin Mass well enough to say a TLM mass.

If I were a man and the pope, I would most certainly revive the TLM. I believe in freedom and diversity of worship to a point and if people want to follow our traditional roots, they’d have my blessing.

I pray that Our Holy Father will act soon.

I am quite sure that Priests, all being university educated, many with Masters and PHDs, could learn to do so very quickly.👍
