Have you bought your license plate? Have you sold all your possessions to follow Christ?

YOU HAVEN’T???

Tisk! Tisk! 🙂
**After the Mass, I shook hands with the Priest and told him that I disagreed with his holding us to a sin of omission. He said, “Believe what you want!” and turned away.
**

HUH? You mean on the right path to drive people away? Repeatedly I’ve stated that he was arrogant. He doesn’t know what people in that parish do to work against abortion. They may well do more than blow their own horn from a podium and act like a holier than thou pompous, self righteous fool.

Maybe that’s why he has no parish of his own. Maybe it’s time to give the bishops credit for refusing him to poison the local parishes on a continuous basis.

Thanks for waking me up to that possibility.
The people who haven’t made up their minds already to be supporters of life are not completely in the Catholic Church anyway. So we are supposed to keep our mouth shut so watered down catholics will remain comfortable so they can continue believing their own watered down definition of what the Church teaches? Forget the license plates, sins of omission. What was this priest really trying to say???

Why is it that there are usually no exceptions to abortion in the church, such as the health of the mother, a victim of rape or incest, or a down syndrome child? I’m pro-life, but those seem like pretty common sense excuses.

There have been several threads on just this subject. You may want to look for them as Church Teaching has been explained to the inth degree. The bottom line, intention is everything. An unborn child’s value is the same as the mother. Under NO circumstances is direct abortion allowed. If you are really Pro Life you need to research this. 🙂

What was he trying to say? I would imagine he was trying to say that abortion is evil. What did he say?** I’m a visiting priest that is arrogant to parishioners I don’t know. That is why I won’t listen to them and will turn my back to them when they talk to me.

Putting the work usually in there is not valid. There is never and exception to allow abortion. 🙂

I can’t believe you’re dismissing a priest as arrogant based on three lines of information from someone who is not the priest. You can judge his words all you want (though I don’t advise it since we don’t know the full story), but you can’t judge the content of his heart. You have no knowledge of his intent or motive. The Gospel says that by judging him, you judge yourself. :hmmm:

(On a side note, I just noticed that this is my 500th post. :extrahappy:)

It happens all the time on this website. People read a paragraph or a few sentences, create a mental image based on the comments and their own personal experiences, then make judgments based on those mental images (which may or may not be even remotely close to the actual situation). Then people debate each other based on their differing mental images.

You are absolutely correct. It’s done throughout all of life. It’s called be subjective rather than objective. Are you never subjective?

BTW, that is why it is so important for the priest to have portrayed a positive image.

** “If you’re not pro life you shouldn’t be here.” ** I don’t remember Jesus ever telling people that.

Common sense unless you are the child being killed.

I dont recall Jesus ever condeming rape, incest or murder. Does that mean its OK to commit them?

I’m not sure of your point. I am adamantly pro-life. I’ve made that clear. What are you trying to say?

Jesus issued two commandments. (1) to love God with all your heart, mind, and soul; (2) to love thy neighbor as thyself.

I think that covers all the Ten Commandments.

ProVobis you took that right out of Sunday’s homily after the Gospel reading of the Good Samaritan. 🙂

There is no doubt in my mind that all of us posting in this thread know that abortion is an ultimate evil. We’re just disagreeing on the way the visiting priest tried to get that message across. 🙂

So you would agree its silly to maki comments like

"**“If you’re not pro life you shouldn’t be here.”**I don’t remember Jesus ever telling people that. "

I believe it’s silly to make the comment ""If you’re not pro life you shouldn’t be here.", especially by a priest at Mass. While we are to be pro-life, the OP indicated the priest was just plain rude. I’m not sure how the OP or I or others can show that. I’m not going to argue that point any longer. I am pro-life. If a visiting priest came to my parish and told me to take a hike because I wanted to talk to him, I would tell him what I thought of his lack of ability to be a fisher of men. I’ll comment no longer on the priests poor behavior.

Actually, that’s not the difference between subjective vs. objective. You can be subjective with complete information, for example, by using your personal history as a lens to view an event (a good example is how an 80 year old from the deep South and a 20 year old from the North Pacific might view the the appropriateness of an interracial couple differently).

What I described was the case of people drawing conclusions based on partial information to the extent that they pass judgment. That is a problem. How can someone judge that a priest is arrogant based on one line posted by someone else on an anonymous forum? How can people tell someone to leave his/her spouse after one paragraph in a the Family Life forum?

You’re correct. I’m using the judgement of the OP. If you were to try to speak to me and I simply told you to believe what you want and turned my back, how would you interpret that? Here we are discussing something we SEEM to disagree on and we are not being rude to each other. I think we’re just carrying a discussion about what we perceive to be either valid or not valid. We’re still being respectful to each other and we are not even face to face. Based on the OP it seems the priest may not have been so generous.
