Guess I could’ve written “Ignosces posco!” My latin is clumsy, but if I keep it up, I’ll get there someday.Ego te absolvo.
I would however caution you a little in discussing mental illness with the poor souls afflicted with those crosses. As you yourself said psychiatric medicine is a minefield. It is constantly evolving and doctors are always working with their patients to seek the best means of treatment. I certainly would say that a second, third or even fourth opinion is desirable, especially when it concerns the possibility in removing the opportunity for a woman to bear children, but sometimes it’s also simply God’s will that a couple not bring forth children. We have to assume that her doctors are correct in her own situation. If she wishes to seek other advice, by all means! But she shouldn’t simply ignore her current doctor’s treatment and diagnosis.
In Jesus and Mary,

Boldness mine! Excellent answer and that is the bottom line: SALVATION FOR BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE. And guess what? I really don’t think abstinence is that hard. I heard it once said: Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder. The joy is in the journey. If you know the day you can, the longing can be dealt with in a simplier way. The singular most important job of a man who is married is to gain eternal salvation for his wife and family. He is the head of the household and needs to point clearly to Heaven in all he says and does. His job is to get wife and children to Heaven. Period. End of playing around. Man up and see the goal like those guys on Crossing the Goal in EWTN land talk about. Oh who is that guy? Danny Abramowicz and his shows can be found here: ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/seriessearchprog.asp?seriesID=7126&T1=crossing+the+goal(God bless you and your wife. Sometimes our cycles can be out of whack and finding a dr to get to the bottom of it, without throwing a pill at you, is hard. There are places out there that might could help your wife, assuming you haven’t tried that. But, if you are in a situation where you are called to avoid children, even for a time being, total abstinence is hard, but not impossible with God’s grace. We work out our salvation this way. Prayers for your family.)
