I'm getting tired of hearing from Protestants that we worship Mary and the saints!

If what you saying is true about the introduction to this work is that they are lying. Secondly, just look at some of the details of his work and compare them with details of the Marian doctrines and the stuff written about her. Its quite apparent.
Not lying - expressing their own opinion. Do you think it is even possible to literally count how many have read the book? Or to count how many have been influenced by it? What exactly IS ‘influence’ anyway? Do you think they were making a factual statement or an educated guess coloured by their own favourable opinion?

Is every parent or spouse lying whose child, wife or husband is just the BEST kid or spouse ever? No, they’re giving their own opinion. The person who wrote the intro is in love with the book in a similar way, and are similarly giving it a glowing endorsement.

Remember St Alphonsus’ book has been around for a good 250 years, that’s a long time. I’m sure his influence was much greater in his own time than it is now. Again, why would you take the word of an anonymous website about what is influential in Catholicism when you are talking here to real live Catholics who are telling you differently? You say that anonymous website knows the faith and we don’t? Why?

‘Stuff written about her’ - by who? Why should it matter in the slightest what ‘stuff’ is ‘written about her’? What makes you think this ‘stuff written about her’ is influential? What stuff’ is ‘written about her’ isn’t magisterial Church teaching, in which I’ve never seen a reference to St Alphonsus as the basis for a teaching, and it’s hard enough to get most Catholics to believe the bare bones of the required dogmas let alone pay attention to anything else.

justasking,

One thing I find really bizarre is how Protestants (well, a lot of Protestants) are so incredibly willing to accept certain things just because Catholics say-so.

For example, when we (Catholics) say that Mary was conceived immaculately, we might as well be talking to a brick wall; but when we say “The papal document Ineffabilis Deus (1854), which defined the Immaculate Conception, was an ex cathedra statement” Protestants are like “Ah, Ineffabilis Deus was an ex cathedra statement. Catholics told me it is, so it must be.”

It just doesn’t make any sense.

Or take the statement you quoted: “No one will ever know the extent of his influence over those millions of genuinely Catholic spirits who want to be devoted to our Lady.” Okay, so what? Does the fact that a Catholic said that St. Alphonsus had great influence, somehow prove that St. Alphonsus had great influence?

Whether catholics are worshipping mary and the saints is another matter. But they are already openly violating COMMANDMENT 2.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

NO EXCUSES.

Quote=, onenow1, Let’s see now. since you are pontificating I think I will . Catholics do not adore statues, if there are any that do, shame on them because this is not what the church teaches !Now !
God appeared to Moses as a burning bush, Moses made a snake, and saw the back of God, the Holy Spirit appeared as a dove at His baptism to the apostles as tongues of fire. You know now that I really think about it the bible uses many, many images.
And the ultimate image that man can relate to in physical terms Jesus Himself !

Now please explain what a graven means ?

Peace. onenow1

Unfortunately I think the myth that Catholics worship Mary and the saints will be around for as long as the earth is around. Hopefully one day all schisms will end and the Protestants and Orthodox Churches will rejoin the Catholic Church. 🙂

And… you believe all the advertising “hype” that you hear, read and see? I guess you bought the book, did the comparative research and have prepared a dissertation on the subject?

Keep reading, friend. The “thou shalt not” goes on to say that these things are not to be made in order for the objects to be worshiped as gods. If you have any pictures of your family, a lovely landscape painting, a still life, or even one of those ridiculous singing bass, you are just as guilty of violating this commandment - as you have presented it here.

Actually, friend, what there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for is you taking scriptures out of context and trying to fit them to your slanted ideology. No excuse whatsoever. Go back and reread Exodus, and read the whole thing…see if you can figure it out.

Now wait a minute!!! There is a significant difference here…the “singing bass” actually moves and sings…that proves that it should be worshipped and I’m not giving mine up for anyone!

Why don’t you explain to us?

That’s absolutely right. Even Luther condemned those that were pulling the icons and statues out of the churches.

But, you do not understand the Catholic faith and you do not seem to make an attempt by saying, “sounds like they worship Mary.” If one wanted to understand the Catholic faith, objectively, one would state that we give honour to Mary and be able to distinguish this from the Honour we give God.

…This has no relevance to this topic (it is a non-sequiter), saying it did: it doesn’t matter what any and all individual Catholics believe, all that matters is what the Church teaches.
I am trying to understand the Catholic faith and I believe the attempt to understand is proven by all the reading I am doing on the topic.
I understand a lot more then I did before I started looking into the Catholic faith.
And yes I still say “sounds like they worship Mary”. Because I am not able to make the distinction between putting Jesus first and someone praying to Mary. If a person prays to anyone but Jesus, they are not putting Jesus first. Jesus said,“I am the way the truth and the life.” He didn’t say ,“I am one of the ways and the truth and the life.”
He also said,“No one comes to the father but by me.” I don’t see how that includes Mary.
You wouldn’t just forget your Catholic beliefs just because you read somewhere that your beliefs are wrong. Well,I can’t just forget what I was taught all my life either. But at least I am trying to understand. Do you attempt to understand protestants?

Why don’t you explain to us?
I have a better idea…why don’t you read Exodus, especially Chapter 20 and come back and give us your take on it. Then I’ll give you my take on it. Lets see if your “interpretation” of it is as warped as his.

You say you’re an Anglican…right? Or will you deny that and declare that you have jumped ship one more time?

SIA…for one who appears as intelligent as you do at times, you seem to have some very strong issues… and those issues drive you to step into situations where you already know the answers.

Why do you do it?

Please provide answers to questions…lets not tapdance around.

Yes, I am Anglican and proud to be. As to statues, icons and such, you I am sure should know that we have them in our churches as well. The church in which my wife was confirmed was beautifully decorated with the stations of the cross all around the sanctuary. The most beautiful icons of the stations that I have ever seen. We were also in a church this last summer that had breath taking icons of the saints all around the church. Awesome. You stirred up one of my favorite things here. I love icons and the such. It’s nothing at all to do with worship.

Thank you for your honesty in this. 🙂

Now, since you claim that you were a Catholic for 30 years or so, you have seen exactly the same thing in Catholic Churches. And you also know that they have nothing to do with worship.🙂
