I'm getting tired of hearing from Protestants that we worship Mary and the saints!

I am sorry that your tired of people saying you worship mary and the saints, but does it call for you to make a topic for bashing them? Bible quote: “A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult” Proverbs 12:16

I’m sorry that you see it as us “bashing them”…but in all honesty I do think that more often it starts out that we are merely trying to educate people who are not Catholics to the reality that we do not do the things that they allege. Some people simply refuse to take the word of many Catholics when we say we do not.

I agree with your quote from Proverbs…though my only “caveat” is that one can only overlook insults so many times then there comes a time to set things right.

Truly…I wish that it was not this way, but such is human nature.

Peace!!

After doing a lot of reading and research I still can’t see what separates the “adoration” to Mary and worship for Jesus.
The more I read the more I see Catholic books written on loving Mary. How wonderful Mary is and how she is over all the angels.
“God has granted Mary the power to obtain pardon for all sinners who ask for her assistance.”
“The devils are terrified of Mary.”
One book even says that Mary is “wisdom” referred to in Proverbs.
If Catholics don’t worship Mary they sure do put her up where Jesus belongs. IMHO
I am not bashing Catholics and their adoration of Mary. I am just saying that I don’t see Jesus getting as much attention as I believe he should.
It seems that Catholics are trying to say that in praising Mary and thinking so highly of her ,it’s actually giving the praise and adoration to Jesus because she is his mother.
I know Mary has appeared to many and that’s an awesome thing.
But still Jesus is God who came down to earth to die for our sins.
He should receive all praise and honor.
Please don’t see this as being insensitive to Catholicism.
I’m still reading and studying. I am really trying to see Mary in the same light as you do.

Hi Christian :tiphat:
I am a Catholic Knight for Christ! Called A Knight of Columbus! :knight1: I often wonder why a Protestant would come on a Catholic site to attack our beliefs in the first place. I notice you don’tt. Thank you for that. I am curious, could you share your personal purpose for visiting?
I have never ever been on a Protestant, Morman, LDS, or Buddist Site. I can tell you why. I really have no interest in what any of them do or say! :dts: However, “The best defense is a good offense” is an adage that has been applied to many fields of endeavor, including debating religion! I have a Qur’an, Book of Morman, about a dozen differrent Bibles and things written by various religious leaders. have you noticed that the common problem when discussing anything is the relative thickness of the Bozone layer?

Bozone ( n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

bashing when we are called liers. It is like someone saying. “I know you say you don’t drink poison, but you do”! We know what it means to Worship. It is a SIN to worship anyone, any thing, BUT GOD! We do not worship Mary nor any saints. I do respect her. I pray the rosary daily. I ask her to have Jesus help me. I pray to Jesus, I pray to Blessed Mother Teresa , I pray to Saint Monica, St. Augustine. I pray to anyone I darn well want to including my biological Mother and father, may God have mercy on their loving souls!
I would never have the nerve to tell a Protestant or anyelse for that matter not to talk to their friend or relatives of theirs. How dare anyone asume they have the right to tell me what to do.
If it violates your religious beliefs. SO WHAT? Is that bashing? Am I bashing to say it is none of your business?
We tell truthfully things like all Protestants are heretics and we get accused of saying a “bad” thing,. Peoples feelings get hurt for the truth. How much more for lies, repeated over and over again?
I follow my church my religious beliefs. If they aren’t yours. I will continue to pray for your conversion. What you think ntil you finish swimming the tibet…WHO CARES?

With people like yourself that do not attack, we do not atack. After all we are christian brothers. Religiously you just have a step father, and apparently no mother 🙂 !

God Bless.:signofcross: Remember, to never allow people to make you angry. :tsktsk: It isn’t what happens but how you react that shows what kind of a Christian you are. 👍 They will know you are a Christian by your love!**

I come here cause at one time I thought I’d like being in the RCC, but this place has done a opposite affect sadly.

It would be wonderful if we could discuss religion without bashing one another.
I came here to learn about the Catholic faith. I wouldn’t look down my nose at anyone for what they believe. I realize that what I believe is mostly what has been drummed into my head for most of my life.
I usually ask a person how long they have belonged to the religion they are into. That way I know if it’s something that they are new to or grew up with.
I have studied many religions because I want to understand what the people I meet are talking about.
Jehovah witnesses,Church ofChrist,Mormons,Catholics,
Baptist, they all have a story to tell.
Get to know them and learn about their religion.
If you are set on what you believe then it won’t hurt to
be nice and understanding to others who are probably just as set on their beliefs.
One thing every religion has in common is that if they don’t stick to “that one” religion they are displeasing God. Our Lord or their god, still they have to stick to their religion.

RobGentner:
Now go play with someone else. I have to go down to Planned Parenthood and protest against abortion. We are more than 1/2 way through the 40 days. Only 9 children murdered there this morning.
Seriously, If you do believe in God, ask Him to forgive the Mothers and heal their hearts. The babies are with Jesus you can pray to them for their mother’s healing also. God loves the innocent childeren Even if your mother forgets you, I will never forget you. I have carved your name in the palms of My hands. Isaiah 49:15-16 …
may God have mercy on our Foolish Country and the Devil’s who cause the deaths of innocent children.
And don’t forget to ask God to forgive the the “Fathers” of those babies, who have impregnated the women and encouraged them to get an abortion (if they stuck around long enough to do so) and have taken them to the clinics and paid for the abortions. They also need forgiveness and healing.

You can see how/why, some Protestants believe that Catholics worship Mary and the saints. It’s the confused responses and beliefs that sincerely, devout Catholics are “putting out there”.

I will take CWBETTS posting one step further as it is not just “ex-Catholics” but “practicing Catholics” now, that have different understandings of what the church teaches, proving that there is indeed “confusion”…within the Catholic church and that there is “disunity” ….within the Catholic church….that is not a condemnation – just a fact - as has been charged against the Protestant churches by the Catholic church for years.
It is a charge with no basis. The Teachings are unified. The fact that some of the members do not understand them correctly, or articulate them poorly does not change the fact that they are a unity. People can be confused, but the Teaching of Jesus is not.
Code:
While the confusion and disunity may not be as obvious when one views the Catholic church by its own pronouncements to the world – it nevertheless is still very much there, as is evident by some of the postings in this thread by Catholics who have different “understandings” as to what the Catholic church teaches.
There is no doubt that there are many poorly catechized Catholics. The worst cases of these are those that have left the Church, and in confusion and ignorance, embraced heretical teachings. Although this may be a failure to shepherd the flock, and to teach the disciples, none of that subtracts from the fullness of the Teaching being found in complete unity in the Church.
Code:
The Catholic church – just as any other church out there, has the responsibility of ensuring that those who belong to it, are receiving the gospel message of Jesus Christ as clearly and as understandably as possible…no grey areas that cause “confusion” or “misunderstanding” and could be considered “stumbling blocks” to those who trust in their leadership. ( “you don’t have to believe that if you don’t want too – that’s a “teaching” but not necessarily a dogma or it hasn’t been codified – we don’t abide by that anymore as it’s been changed- but you can do it if you want too anyway…”)
I agree. However, failure in responsibility, just like Peter’s failure to bear witness to Christ at HIs crucifixion, does not detract from the Fullness of Christ.
Code:
The same confusion or misunderstanding that is being passed on “now”….as indicative above by Catholic posters themselves, also illuminates the possibility that other “misunderstandings” over the centuries have been passed on. What would lead anyone to believe otherwise…if it is happening today, and it is obviously from “within” the church, a lot of development and theories and misunderstanding could have been happening then and been carried forward.
A good point, however irrelevant. The teachings of Jesus are not determined by the misunderstandings of poorly catechized individuals. They are passed on and preserved through the Apostolic succession, by the power of the HS. To the extent that individual Catholics cling to the authority that Christ put in place, they will find themselves in unity with the Head, which is Christ.
We read constantly in the epistles to the early churches about warnings of false doctrines, heresies, false teachings that were “already” amongst them, not just with openly pagan beliefs, but with teachings that were once again trying to bind them up as the Judaic rituals and laws had once done.
This is why it was so critical to have a visible authority and point of unity.
The only one, stable, one true thing is the promise that God made to us through Jesus Christ and His blood sacrifice on the cross.
Everyone has the freedom to limit their access and reception to the truth. If this is all you are able to embrace, God bless you.
I believe,**that **is what the Apostles preached and **that **was the centre of their commission.
Indeed, and which is why they warned us not to receive a “different” gospel, such as that promulgated at the Reformation. 😉

I am not only tired, I am sick and tired of Protestants who relentlessly insist that we worship Mary and the saints. We have explained our beliefs, they don’t accept so pronto, let them stick with their beliefs and we will go on with our bliefs.

Its as simple as that. Leave us alone, you are not going to change 2000 years of Catholicism - we will grow in faith. Do we harm anybody? Sure we have to constantly battle the devil who attacks on all fronts and together with Jesus, our Holy Mother and all the saints we will overcome.

There are many evils in our society that we should be fighting TOGETHER - all Christians - Catholics and Protestants. We should fight the media that is putting pernicious ideas in our children’s minds, the images, the books, the constant barrage of evil they put out. THAT is what we should be fighting. Not the Holy Catholic Church which is responsibe for so much good in our world.

Read “How the Catholic Church built Western Civilization” by Thomas E Woods, Jr PhD. He is a convert   and writes a compelling account of this part of the history of humanity. Entertain yourself with something good!

But this thing of Mary and the Saints - leave it alone.

It is OUR faith.

**Christian, I am truly sorry to hear that. But maybe your desire to find the true way to God and correct way to worship Him can overcome your human feelings. 🤷

It isn’t easy to “change” religions. Family members, co-workers even life long friends may be lost. Many fallen away catholics confess that they did it for “family peace” How sad to condemn yourself to eternal damnation to have temporal peace! SIGH, Foolish children! :imsorry:
Pray on your desire to save your eternal soul or remain separate from God’s full graces. Some of my best friends and most informed catholics are formal baptists. Everyone is not mean, however every one is Human. 🎉

We all have faults. Lucky for us, Catholics have the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. This allows us to "eat His body and drink His blood as he commanded for our salvation. 1 Corinthians 11:24 and Matthew 26:26 . And we have the other six sacraments to obtain the Grace of the Holy Spirit in our lives!:bowdown2:

Sincerely ,This isn’t the best place to “expose yourself” to our faith.:dts: We are in mortal combat with the devil and his slaves on this site! Satin controls so many people who falsely believe they are saved. OSAS Hahaah! 😃 As the true church we have an obligation to save as many as we can from the counterfeit and imitation religions which are less that 500 years old. Baptists are about 200 years old. There are three major divisions, about 50 sub denominations, which all disagree with each other like our traditional and non-traditional Catholics do!

The great thing about My church is the Holy Spirit guides us and has for 2,000 years. We err but are brought back to the Father through Jesus’ sacrafice and the wisdom of the Holf Spirit.

Do you really want to learn about our religion, want to understand our faith? Do as St Augustine, and Fr. John Corapi did. Pray one Hail Mary daily. Pray it slowly and listen to the words in your Heart. They are from the Bible. How could the words of God’s book hurt you?

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. (Bow your head!)

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

The Hail Mary is based on these passages from the Bible: Luke 1:28-35, 42-48.

We ask her to pray for us. To Whom? GOD! we don’t worship her. Is anything in that prayer WORSHIP?

Search your heart, pray the Hail Mary. Trust in God. Believe in Jesus’ sacrafice. Ask for to receive “Amazing Grace”.

God Bless you My friend. You are in my prayers!**

And don’t forget to ask God to forgive the the “Fathers” of those babies, who have impregnated the women and encouraged them to get an abortion (if they stuck around long enough to do so) and have taken them to the clinics and paid for the abortions. They also need forgiveness and healing.
**The fathers also need our prayers. They also need our Love. But my heart aches physically for the poor Mothers who must bear the everlasting pain of murdering their own baby unless they ask for and accept God’s forgiveness.
We must have abortion outlawed! It Is a:
SIN AGAINST LIVE, AGAINST GOD HIMSELF!

My wife and I lost seven babies because of spontaneous abortion.I could have called them fetuses, they were still babies!
I think of everyone of them daily and hope that they pray for us to the Lord Our God.
Only the last one lived long enough to determine sex his sex. He would be a 37 years old man now.

I praise my God for providing me with personal knowledge of the pain the parents should be feel.

Pray for an end of abortion and God’s Mercy

God Bless!**

ABORTION IS WRONG. BUT MANY OF THESE PROBLEMS WOULD NOT EVEN HAVE EXISTED IF THE CATHOLICS HAD ALLOWED CONTRACEPTION.

.

I don’t know where you got your defination I got mine from the CCC.
If that is the case, then I am sure it is correct. Your application of it, however, is not.
Code:
The are heretics I always tell them that
I hope that you will have the maturity to get beyond this approach.
and Of course they commit blasphemy every time they put the bible itself before God’s own words told to them by the Church. When they put their own twisted ideas of what is correct before Gods true words as explained by the Real church. They thereby makethemselves “little gods”
This may well be true, but for the most part, it is done in ignorance. Not only that, most of those that venerate the Scriptures do so out of great reverence for the Holy Word of God, and this should be affirmed (because it is Catholic).
But in the case of Our Blessed Mother Mary. They do not commit blasphemy~!
It is sacriligious to speak against those things/persons made Holy by God. Many do denigrate Mary, and this, in turn, is insulting to her Son.
I must still state emphatically that We do not Worship Mary!
She is not a sacret Entity!
She is sacred to the extent that she is set aside for a particular worshipful use. She is holy like the sacred clothing and vessels of the OT temple were holy, set aside for special purposes. SHe is sacred like the Ark of the Covenant, which held the sacred and holy objects of the faith.
She is a human creature created by GOD! Perfect but Human! She is not a deity or otherworldly entity to be considered sacred.
She is not a god so she isn’t a sacred entity.
I think you are using the notion of “sacred” or “holy” differently.
You may still not agree with me.🤷 If Not, Go ask an Apologist. I’ll wait!
I would not take up their precious time. I will agree to disagree with you! 😃
I am only an informed pratical Catholic that desires to be correct. I do not wish to put out invalid information. The Protestants are hoping for salvation through our words. Lets not misguide them!👍
You are in the right place. You will learn a lot here. 👍

ABORTION IS WRONG. BUT MANY OF THESE PROBLEMS WOULD NOT EVEN HAVE EXISTED IF THE CATHOLICS HAD ALLOWED CONTRACEPTION.
I can tell you, from bitter bitter experience, this is simply not true. It is one of the greatest deceits ever. I know.

Why is it necessary to have the “Blessed Mother Pray to our Son that we all obtain salvation” if the Scriptures never command not exhort such a thing?
Such a question presupposes that everything which is necessary is found in scripture.

In spite of such an error, it is not “necessary” for you, ja4. If you don’t want the Blessed Mother to pray that you obtain salvation, then you need not ask her.

I doubt very much, however, that she will stop praying just because you don’t want her to do so. 😉
Secondly, in one of the titles posted on #699 it says that Mary is “Deliverer From All Wrath”. How can this be when it is the Lord Jesus who alone is the One Who does this?
Mary does not do this apart from Christ. She delivered the One who delivers the world from wrath. She participates in His ministry of deliverance. 😃
See I Thessalonians 1:10—10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.
Do you think Jesus does not allow us to participate in His mission to save people from wrath?
It can hurt. In 2 Cornithians 11:3 Paul warns about being led astray for from the simplicity and devotion to Christ. No one can be truly devoted to Christ who is also devoted to Mary or anyone else.
I think this might be true if it involved someone who was not completely devoted to Christ. As it is, Mary is the handmaid of the Lord. She always points to her Divine Son, and ever says “do whatever He tells you”. There is no way, when following someone who is totally sold out to Christ, that one can be led astray. That is why Paul says “be imitators of me, as I am of Christ”.
There has your church infallibly interpreted the Scriptures that tells you what it mean? What passage of Scripture does the church use to mean that you are to pray to Mary?
The Church produced the NT, ja4, and therefore, does not need to render every verse to understand it’s meaning. Your question is based on an erroneous presumption that everything pertaining to our life as Christians can be found in the bible. This is an error.
No doubt there are some Protestants who have been heretics just as as their are Catholics who are also.
Yes, but modern Protestants can rarely be charged with heresy, since they were never taught the truth in the first place. To be a heretic, once must have embraced the Truth, then willfully reject it.
How do you define heresy and what are its characteristics?
Are you trying to derail another thread?
No need to check with your pope. Just read the Scriptures and see if you find any place where its says Mary is the “Deliverer From All Wrath” or something like this.
The pope, as all faithful Catholics, embraces the Apostolic teachings. Since we know these are not limited to Scripture, you are right, there is no need to check them. 👍

Michael,

I think we should try to avoid making this a Catholic debate against Calvinism. We are just Christians reading and studying Scriptures together so we can each grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ…in-spite of our presuppositions. If greater truth is found in Roman Catholicism, I would have to become Roman Catholic to the glory of God alone. On the other hand, if the solas of the Protestant Reformation is truth, then I would hope you will become a Sola Christian to the praise and glory of God alone. We are both here to glorify God and enjoy Him forever…together as Christians through studying the scriptures together. 🙂
Since you read the Scriptures with your Calvanistic presuppositions, and we read them with Catholic presuppositions, it is impossible to study the scriptures together without these opposed presuppositions encountering one another. 🤷
