I'm getting tired of hearing from Protestants that we worship Mary and the saints!

I can’t answer unless i give you the reasons why.
Why give reasons? I’m not giving you reasons why I’m catholic. I don’t mind that you’re not catholic or the reasons why.

I just want to know if you truly believe that Jesus would be disappointed with you if you sing songs of praise about His Mother. You can have your reasons and they don’t have to be voiced. Are you trying to convince me of something or yourself?

What are the essential beliefs? Where does Scripture tell us what beliefs are “essential” and which ones are “non-essential”?
Some essential beliefs are:
1- Must believe that God exists
2-Christ died for sinners-- See I Corinthians 15:1-4. Paul actually says this is of “first importance”.
3- the judgement

These are essential beliefs.

Non-essential beliefs:
1- who is the author of Hebrews
2- what year was Christ born
3- What Jesus looked like

And oh by the way, I’d like to hear your reasons. Not Paul’s, Matthew’s, Mark’s, Luke’s or John’s, yours please. Since you interpret the Bible differently than I do, I’ve given you my interpretations without quoting scripture. I’m interested in your thoughts.

The simple answer is yes. The only praise we should give is only to God in these matters.

Where in Scripture does it say that your points 1 and 3 are essential?

The problem is that non-catholics use the Bible exclusively in both state and interpretation. Or…at least they think they do. Catholics use the Bible INclusively both is state and interpretation. .

onenow1, God created everything so we praise all creation, in fact Jesus said preach to all creation. Mary is the perfect creation next to her Son.

Peace, onenow1

Excellent question; if (someone) believes that everything we need to know is in scripture, where does it say that believing in God is an essential belief?

It’s implied, perhaps, but that is the logic that is used to “disprove” Catholic teaching that is not explicitely stated in scripture.

As you re-read what I posted, you will see:
** “these things were obviously not necessary for the “salvation of mankind” **or in any way a significant part of God’s plan for salvation,”

John’s Revelation is not** “necessary” **for a persons salvation.

The Nicea Creed isn’t “necessary” for a person to be saved.
(Or Jesus and the Apostles would have made sure that when they were preaching and teaching - they would have mentioned it)
So, you think Jesus said and did things that were “irrelevant”?

Wow.

I bet the recipients of the letters in the book of Revelation believed differently than you. If they took the letters to heart, they prevented themselves from getting their lampstand removed, being spewed out of His mouth, and having their names blotted out of the book of life. Sure seems like it was relevant to the salvation of many to me!

The Apostles’ creed has saved countless persons from falling away from the faith, by making it clear what consitutes the One Faith delivered from the Apostles.

Forgive me but it strikes me as rather arrogant for you, 2000 years later, to sit in judgment upon Christ and His Apostles with regard to what is “relevant” for salvation. It seems to me that if Jesus felt it was necessary to give John a Revelation and command that it be sent to the believers, then isn’t it up to Him to determine what is “relevant for salvation”?

.
Complete understanding of the term “Trinity” is not **“necessary” **for a person to be saved.
Who are you to determine this? How is your opinion about what is necessary more valuable than those appointed by Christ to teach these things to His Body, the Church?
These all came “after” His life…and are all good, wonderful things, but are not necessary for salvation.
Basically what you are saying is that Jesus engaged in useless teaching and actions. His training of the Apostles to manage the Church was a waste of time, and unnecessary. His appointment of them to be the custodians of the Teaching was pissing in the wind, apparently. His promise to build His Church, and to send the Spirit to guide them into all Truth (which would not have been necessary, by the way, if they had all of it already) was just empty words.
Being a member in good standing in the Catholic church **is not **necessary for salvation - but the church claims it is
I am sorry, but you are suffering from an error. This is not the Teaching of the Catholic Church. How did you come to get so twisted in your perceptions of Catholicism?
(this was not part of the salvation gospel that Jesus and the Apostles preached or taught - that gospel was complete and nothing else was necessary)
If nothing else was necessary, then why did they need keys, and the authority to bind and loose? Why did they need councils to make decisions? You seem to be struggling hard to discount the Catholic Church, I am not sure why.
Believing in “any” of the Marian Dogmas **is not necessary **for salvation - but if you don’t believe them - you’re “anathema”
(this was not part of the salvation gospel that Jesus and the Apostles preached or taught, complete/nothing else necessary)
Well, we read it differently. 😃
I have no problem with acknowledging that God still speaks in this day and age, as I have already posted.
Yes, a seemingly double sided attitude. Why would that even be necessary if the whole gospel is already recorded?

How is it to be determined that it is God speaking?

Do you believe the things you have writtten here are “God speaking” in the present day and age?
I truly believe He does and I truly believe that He has used faithful, devout, skilled people **to accomplish His Will **- as He did with the those who transcribed the bible and as He does with true and faithful believers in ALL churches.
Do you consider yourself to be one such person?
He can and He has and He will use anyone to accomplish His Will, as no one church/denomination can contain God - no matter how hard they try either by self proclamation or by stating that they alone are able to dispense God’s grace.
It is very Catholic of you to say this. 👍

That was an excellent response you gave to Leeann.👍 She is one of the good ones.:flowers: Sure she is misguided but she does think and respond from her heart not just from some list of prepared answers

You countered her remarks flawlessly! :clapping: I can learn a lot from you. I actually wonder if she will read and understand the truth when she sees it? Nah! :imsorry:

I think we might get her to make the Tibet swim someday. Oonce her eyes get fully opened and she also finds out that the CC does not condemnes drinking (There has been theses…eeer… riumors?) Satan can’t get all the good ones!

I wonder where she got all the knowledge but still misunderstands the concept of the Christian Church as Jesus established it. I am glad that you can speak sense with her. It hurts my head to try for some strange reason!.:banghead: **

All truth is indeed what He gave the Apostles.
And what the church wants to give you today…is ALL of **their **truth. Subtle difference, but one that will land you right in the pit if you don’t take the blinders off.😊
Leeann, statements such as this come dangerously close (if not over) the line of of the forum rules. Forum rules require that you respect the faith of Catholics, even if you don’t agree, and that you refrain from attempting to pull Catholics away from their faith.

CAF is not a venue for you to evangelize Catholics into anti-Catholic frameworks. It is here to answer genuine questions from sincere inquirers about what Catholics believe. If you are willing to learn what the Catholic church actually teaches, you are welcome here. If your purpose is detraction, calumny, proselytizing and the like, you are not.

Code:
(Protestants: Rosary n. A bunch of beads joined together, Used to pray to the Blessed Mother Mary. ) Oh heck, me and my big mouth! They will think we worhip Mary. Hey Heretics: We don't! Please, SOB!!!, don't ask me AGAIN!
God Bless!
Rob, please stop referring to our separated brethren as “heretics”. This is now the fourth time I have asked you. You have just earned yourself a trip to the mods.

You are right i have asked this question repeatedly for the mere fact it is a major pillar in Catholic theology and one that claims to be equal to the Scriptures. What i find most disappointing is that Catholics who know the term and use it to defend their faith do not really know the details of it. Surely there must be someone on these forums who either really knows it or will admit the obvious.
Yes, you have, and you have repeatedly rejected the multiple responses you have been given. As I have said before, it would be well to start with your Bible, which is itself 100% a product of Sacred Tradition. when you can accept that, perhaps we can move on to other things?

In the meantime, one must be mindful that it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to learn about something that you are convinced does not exist.

I’m beginning to think you think they exist either otherwise i would have had list of a couple of pages long that would have shown what they are and how they started. 🤷

JustAsking does this for the same reason hungry people keep going to the frig when they don’t like what’s there.

JA wants to be convinced (fed) as her hunger for the Truth stills aches in her. She, like many others are not willing to take the bitter with the sweet and join us.

Catholicism is very hard at times. But what non catholics miss because they refuse to let the fullness of the Holy Spirit into their hearts is the Grace of sacrements and the Purity of the Eucharist and the sweet release of reconciliation.

Our faith is a reflection of Christ’s life on earth. It is a sacrifice at all times and it is a Divine Blessing at all times.

God made life hard but gave us ways to feel close to Him and to actively practice our faith in Him just like He did Jesus. Hence catholicism.

Peace brothers and sisters. You’ll find it in any catholic church. Walk in and make yourself at home. The frig is full! 😃
