I'm getting tired of hearing from Protestants that we worship Mary and the saints!

Rob:

You scare me.

The first thing I learned in my RCIA class was to not try to convert anyone who believes in the Trinity. I learned that lesson because like you, I mistrusted other faiths and I was quickly corrected by a Deacon whose mother and father were protestant. Heck I waited to be Baptized catholic at 39 just because there were things I don’t agree with and naively believed that you had to be born catholic. (What a conversion story that is!)

You don’t hear Papa Benedict pulling others away from their faith. Just pray Rob and stop the name-calling and vicious comments. Actually I like your debate, but the rest is very unattractive and more than a little offensive to our faith.

Please don’t misunderstand, I like you but my fear is that you are pushing away any potential catholics that may come along by calling them heretics. I know I wouldn’t want to be a part of a Church that calls people heretics.

God Bless and for goodness sake man, Peace Be With you.
Amen! That goes for everyone, by the way.

This is from #2 of the hymn:

Angels are enraptured before thee.
The Blessed bow down before thee.
Michael is thy Captain.
Gabriel thy Messenger.
Raphael thy Healer.
Angels and Saints feast on thy beauty.

Do you believe this is true of Mary? If so, how do you know it is since the Scriptures never speak of her in this manner?
YES!!! This is true of Mary!!

Both the Nativity accounts and the Book of Revelation tell us this.

Michael does battle with the devil who is looking for the ruin of souls. Since The dragon waged war against the Woman and Her children and since there is emnity between the serpent and the Woman, Michael is the captain of the army of all on God’s side.

Gabriel came to Mary to propose to Her.

Raphael healed in Tobit. I do not for an instant think that was his last assignment.

happilycatholic;4320061]We’re talking 1848 right? Anathemas are a very harsh way of getting a point across. Such as damned be your soul if you don’t agree with us. Again, we’re talking 1848. But hey it’s there, I know. It’s not like catholics are shouting it from rooftops though. Well save one. :o
I understand that the church would want to be “PC” about this and not offend unnecessarily. The fact remains though these Anathemas have never been renounced by the authorities of the church. They really can’t because if they did that would mean Trent was wrong in doing so. An infallible church cannot err no matter what.
Where does the Church call anyone a heretic? I know in the Catechism it explains what a heretic is and that is a person who believes in something other than what the Church teaches. However, I’ve never heard any catholic save one, call anyone a heretic.
The church may not come out explicitedly and call Protestant heretics but its documents do show they consider themselves so. Even the quote from your catechism demonstrates this. If i don’t believe what your church teaches then by that defintion i’m a heretic. I’ m not offended by it since i know this is not the case at all. It is to the Word of God that i am accountable and not to men.

Your church essentially does call Prostentants heretics. Just look at some of the ANATHEMAS at the end of some of the canons of Trent. Also your pope does not even recognize Protestant churches as churches.
justasking,

I take issue with your use of the word “even”, which makes it sound like the fact that we don’t consider Protestants denominations to be “churches” (since we don’t recognize your sacraments as valid) somehow implies that we also consider you to be heretics.

In actual point of fact, the Catholic Church has made very clear and direct statements that Protestants denominations are not “churches”, but whether or not we consider all Protestants to be “heretics” is not quite so clear-cut.
who doesn’t the church call a heretic? 😃 😃

it’s OK though – we turn it right back around.
True.

Okay, but I have been in plenty of protestant churches where the preacher stood in front of a congregation and told us that if we didn’t believe what he was telling us we would burn in hell. Yes, burn in hell.

So with that, I joined the catholic Church. We may believe that there are souls out there that are lost and need to be found, but we do not go around saying that you will burn in hell and most of us don’t call them heretics or anathema. That was my point.

Every church has its doctrine. Unfortunately there is a line drawn in the sand, point at which if you cross it you are on your way to hell. However, the Church does not preach how to get to hell it “teaches” how to get to Heaven.

For every positive doctrine the flip side of that is a negative one. Jesus himself was not always “nice”. But He always showed mercy.

That is my point.

Actually maybe I should not have said “negative doctrine”.

I’ll correct myself:

Soul saving doctrines and if you don’t follow them, it’s a deal-breaker or eternal damnation. Still sounds harsh, I guess there’s no way to sugar-coat going to hell.

😦

Back on topic.

We don’t worship Mary and the Saints! 🙂

Any takers?

Okay Rob, but I’m still keeping one eye open brother! 🙂

You made a joke. I am so proud of you.👍

Now off subject and very seriously.

I wanted to thank you for choosing to become a Catholic and enjoy the fullness of our Faith. Welcome my Brother. I realize that it wasn’t easy to decide to swim the Tibet. As, a cradle Catholic, I cannot do half as much as you can to help the others make the swim. You have been there. We have the Tiber swim class of 2009 thread. Hidei started it. I am giving swimming lessons there some time. You should go and help answer some of their questions and concerns. We can spread the faith better with converts helping than by ourselves.

Keeping off Subject for just a minute. Reference Voting. Vote for Life, Don’t let other factors influence your decision. Why? Well, besides stopping the Murder of children, your person decision might be wrong. Example:

HOW WILL YOU VOTE?

It is time to elect a world leader, and your vote counts. Here’s the scoop on the three leading candidates.

Candidate A: associates with wardhealers and consults with astrologists.
He’s had two mistresses. He chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Candidate B: was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of brandy every evening.

Candidate C: is a decorated war hero. He’s a vegetarian, doesn’t smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn’t had any illicit affairs.

Which of these candidates would be your choice??Hmm?

Be honest.

This isn’t actually a trick quiz. The facts are correct as stated.🙂

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt:thumbsup:
Candidate B is Winston Churchill:thumbsup: Candidate C is Adolph Hitler:mad:

Follow Jesus’ teaching. Save the babies, For God’s sake wake up and smell the rotten flesh of the poor children as their bodies rot in medical waste containers. SIGH! Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven especially those that are most in need of your divine mercy. AMEN!

Now back to the OS. ~ I think they do it for fun and to show that they don’t understand much about Jesus and His faith.😃 As Happily said any takers?

God Bless!**

What was the content of the message? If he said that if a person rejects Christ Who died for their sins that person would be condemned.

I think this is different what we have between Catholics and Protestants. There are fundamental doctrines that are at stake and do have ramifications.

Does not the Catholic church teach that if you don’t belong to the church you will be condemned?

Thanks. I must tell you though, I’m a sister. 😊

I don’t know how I’m going to vote.

Gosh Rob, can’t ya be a little less graphic? 😛

All off topic.

The one in whom you pray to at the hour of your death is your god.
How silly of you:bowdown2:

I don’t pray to God to pray for me so If I am asking for someone to pray for me it goes to reason that I am asking that person to pray to God. It isn’t even a good job of twisting words:stretcher:

Thanks. I must tell you though, I’m a sister. 😊
**We should have SEX Signs On our postings! **
I don’t know how I’m going to vote.

As a Catholic there is no choice. None. except if you can’t vote for Mccain vote for no one! That is another thread all together

Gosh Rob, can’t ya be a little less graphic? 😛

Yes, but would it actually explain the truth any better? Like when I say that there is one church following Jesus’ and it is the CC. I ask if Jesus only founded one religion and it has only has one body, and there are 29,999 other christian denominations who is their head? They also must have a head, they even say it is Jesus. Now if Jesus is our head and he only has one body and they don’t believe what we believe. Who is their head? Who wants to steal souls from God? Tick, tock, tick, tock…I could sugarcoat it but it is so much kinder to just say Their head must be Satin**.Now I may be wrong, maybe they think that Jesus has a MSD and has more than one personality, I don’t. But it would really be unkind for me to just say they are confused, they believe a different way, ot it is OK to make your own decisions about your soul. But it wouldn’t make them realize they might be going to Hell.I said might, NOT will, so don’t attack me Please. I hate it when that happens! :takethat:

I am really amazed. You are growing! First a couple of jokes, and then a “real” truth! You go girl!👍

I know it hurt for you to be what you think is harsh. But they do deserve to hear the truth. They are our brethren. Their souls are close to damnation, How could we do otherwise? Their very soul depends on us being honest. I am proud of you.:dancing:

Let me ask you a few questions:
Do you think they will now understand the truth? I don’t think so , why? Some one once said: " None are as blind as those who refuse to see" Rip the glasses off their face and they shut their eyes!
Might they eventually see? Maybe! Someone else said “Life’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get next.” Should we stop trying? Should we always sugarcoat the truth? Someone else once said “You can’t destroy a cancer without spilling a lot of blood” I think I am the one that said that. Can’t be sure! It is teribble to get old. Unless you are a Protestant, then it might be a good thing!

You guys have been fighting very hard. Time for a:

JOKE BREAK

Jesus and Satan were having an ongoing argument about who managed to get the most out of his computer. This had been going on for days and God was tired of hearing all of the bickering.

God said, “Cool it. I am going to set up a test that will run two hours and I will judge who does the better job.”

So down they sat at the keyboards and typed away. They moused away. They did spreadsheet. They wrote reports. They sent faxes. They sent out e-mail. They sent out e-mail with attachments. They downloaded. They went up on threads and argued about Mary and the Saints, They did some genealogy reports. They made cards. They did every known job. But just a few minutes before the two hours were up and they would present the results to God, lightening flashed across the sky. The thunder rolled and the rains came down hard. And of course the electricity went off.

Satan was upset. He fumed and fussed and he ranted and raved All to no avail. The electricity stayed off. But after a bit therains stopped and the electricity came back on.

Satan screamed, “I lost it all my work when the power went off. What am I going to do? :bigyikes: God will want to see the result of my labor. What happened to Jesus’ work?”

Jesus just sat and smiled. 😃 Again Satan asked about the work that Jesus had done. As Jesus turned his computer back on the screen glowed and when he pushed “print,” It was all there. Every truth that had ever been taught by the Catholic Church right there for Satin and his followers to read and finally understand!

How did he do that?" Satan asked.

God smiled and said, “Didn’t you know? Jesus Saves.”

Keep up the good fight. Never be afraid to speak the truth and remember to always pray to Mary and the Saints!

MY GOODNESS !!! :bigyikes:

I’ve just come in from an outing with my elderly mother and there are about 4,000 posts (give or take a few…) to go back and read through!!! :coolinoff:

I assume the topic of the thread hasn’t been brought to any satisfactory conclusion… :compcoff:

Rob:

Where in this statement taken directly from (Your Guy’s) websight do you glean that he is willing to pass a law making abortion illegal under every circumstance? (please read my comments at the bottom)

Human Dignity and the Sanctity of Life

Overturning Roe v. Wade

(Your Guy) believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench.

Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat.

However, the reversal of Roe v. Wade represents only one step in the long path toward ending abortion. Once the question is returned to the states, **the fight for life will be one of courage and compassion - the courage of a pregnant mother to bring her child into the world and the compassion of civil society to meet her needs and those of her newborn baby. **The pro-life movement has done tremendous work in building and reinforcing the infrastructure of civil society by strengthening faith-based, community, and neighborhood organizations that provide critical services to pregnant mothers in need. This work must continue and government must find new ways to empower and strengthen these armies of compassion. These important groups can help build the consensus necessary to end abortion at the state level. As (Your Guy) has publicly noted, “At its core, abortion is a human tragedy. To effect meaningful change, we must engage the debate at a human level.”

What I’ve placed in bold is (Your Guy’s) answer to abortion once Roe v. Wade is overturned. In other words, let’s leave it to the compassion of the mother and her support system.

Be very careful. It’s what politicians don’t say that will derail you.

Maybe my answer should have been, "I don’t know if I will vote (at all). I’m actually quite discouraged by our choices.

Please, I do not wish to get into a political debate and will not entertain any comments regarding that issue.

Besides, I think it’s forbidden here. Right?

We keep circling…

You worship Mary and the saints!

Do not!

Do too, look at this song/poem! That’s worship!

Actually, no it’s not worship. Worship is for God alone.

Well, then you must think Mary is divine, because you worship her!

Do not!

Do too!

Do not!

…ad nauseum…
