Maybe someday whyme will tell us the doctrines of his new religion. I think they are LDS, with the rituals of Catholic Mass, and the Eucharist, with it being ok in his religion to take the sacrament at an LDS service. Oh, and religious, because its cool to have religious in your own personal religion and hang with them and have them tell you that your new religion is OK by them (as whyme hears it).

Confession with a priest because Catholics are forgiven, where if he 'fessed up with a mormon Bishop, he just might get ex’d. And this won’t do, as his doctrines are mainly LDS.

So, he’s mixed the two religions up, and is mainly mormon. Maybe whyme, you can name your new religion Morlic.
Or perhaps “moronic?”

We have nothing to learn from the neo-Origenist pastiche called Mormonism.

What you need to do is repent and come back to the real Christ, not the spirit son of a mutant on Kolob.
Why the hatered and the sarcasim?

All I can say about this thread is I know I haven’t learned anything about the LDS church and I don’t think anyone else has either. And I don’t believe Dorsey has managed to learn anything new about the Catholic Religion either. I don’t know if Dorsey came here in good faith as wanting to share his beliefs with Catholics, or not, but he sure got the door to understanding slammed in his face. 😦

Insulting? you really need to go back to the begining and reread my posts…all of them. As far as the post you said I insulted someone…I have to agree it was not very Christian of me…I got a tad defensive when someone had the audacity to tell me I am not a Christian. Me thinks you’d would be kind of upset too. Don’t ya think?
Dude, by the Catholic definition, and by that of pretty much every other Christian tradition too, you are NOT a Christian. That’s not an insult, it doesn’t say Mormons are not good people, and it’s certainly not anti-Mormon. There are certain general standards of orthodoxy that are adhered to by Christian communities. Mormons tenets do not meet those standards, in fact they are WELL beyond the pale and Mormon Scripture explicitly condemns the standards held by all other communities as invalid (to put it nicely). It’s strictly semantics; it’s not an insult, it’s not a criticism of your beliefs, your history, your traditions, your values, your manner of living or anything else. You can consider yourselves Christians, and that’s cool, but Mormonsim will NEVER be considered a Christian faith by anybody else; it’s not even close given the most liberal of interpretations. Many Mormons live what we would consider “Christian lives,” but so do many Jews, Buddhists, Moslems, even Pagans and atheists. Other than implicitly, that does not make them Christians. I don’t know why you guys can’t understand this, nor do I understand why you get so upset and continually argue about it. It’s a totally futile effort and only results in vitriol.

Many Calvinist traditions, which include some of my Baptist friends, don’t consider Catholics to be Christians either. Like why should I care how somebody else defines the term? It has absolutely zero impact on me and I’m sure not going to waste my time arguing about it. Better to agree to disagree, spare the aggravation, and move on to something meaningful.

I can’t speak for Brother Dorsey, but I can tell you that this thread has been most enlightening to me.

I’m actually surprised at how unhappy, angry and conflicted Catholics seem. I wouldn’t have imagined it. Surprising, but there it is.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You wouldn’t like me when I am angry.

It is a pity we don’t have a giant green hulk smilie… It would have been perfect. Sigh

God bless

Mormons are not able to claim the name Christian, by virtue of the fact that they are polytheistic. They are perhaps closer to Hindus in this respect. They believe in a multiplicity of gods. They do not believe in the Holy Trinity. They have a blasphemous belief about the conception of Our Lord. They have doctrines that are strange and bizarre ie: baptism for the dead. They follow a false “prophet” who invented a religion to satisfy his lust for power and unbridled sex. No major religion recognises mormonism as Christian, in spite of mormon protestations to the contrary. Calling yourself Christian does not make it so.
Polytheistic? Never heard that one before.

If Dorsey had answered the questions asked, then maybe you would have learned something.

You’ve never heard that Mormons believe in the existence of countless gods who rule countless worlds peopled with their spiritual offspring, and that Mormons believe that they too can become gods of their own worlds?

It’s true. Actually, Mormons are not polytheistic, but rather they are henotheists - recognizing many gods but worshiping only one.

Technically, it’s accurate, in the same way Roman Catholics are polytheistic.

Mormons have one God they know and ask favors of (roughly corresponding to your God the Father), but we believe he has a God, and that God has a God too, and on and on.

You guys have Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and Mary. Then you have demigods in various saints, though most Catholics probably couldn’t be called worshipers of them.

LOL, uh oh!

Yeah, I know the explanations pretty well by now.

You pray to her, ask her favors, make all sorts of devotions to her, intone her name, but you’re not indulging in worship.

No big deal. It’s all a matter of definition. 😃

Okay, please explain God has a God, has a God. I understand some Native American have said that the Great Father? they revere is not the highest power. There is one above him. 🙂 Peace.

Well, it’s a concept that probably originated with a guy named Orson Pratt. Gerrit de Jong was the modern authority. It’s called “eternal progress”.

Basically, my generation of Mormon kids learned that God was once a guy, like I am, on some distant planet. He paid the proper amount of devotion to his own God, and so he was exalted.

The idea is that if Mormons here do what they’re supposed to do, they’ll be exalted to being Gods at some point in the future.

Personally, if I were to be exalted, I wouldn’t need a planet. I’d dig something like Jupiter’s moon Europa. I’d melt the ice and colonize it with dolphins. That’s just me though…most Mormons who take this stuff seriously are much more “into” it all. I’ve always thought it was sorta goofy, and I’ve never put much stock in any afterlife mythology whatever…Mormon, Christian, or otherwise.

I’m sure Paul DuPre or Brother Dorsey can correct me if I missed something someplace, but that’s the general idea. It’s supposedly one big test, that never ends. It has been going on since the beginning of time.

Also I forgot, We believe the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one God as below:

The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion – the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another.

Thus, in the words of the Athanasian Creed: “the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, and yet there are not three Gods but one God.” In this Trinity of Persons the Son is begotten of the Father by an eternal generation, and the Holy Spirit proceeds by an eternal procession from the Father and the Son. Yet, notwithstanding this difference as to origin, the Persons are co-eternal and co-equal: all alike are uncreated and omnipotent. This, the Church teaches, is the revelation regarding God’s nature which Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came upon earth to deliver to the world: and which she proposes to man as the foundation of her whole dogmatic system. Got that? I don’t because it is a Mystery according to the Catholic belief. Also we don’t have demigods, but people we revere and honor because of their holiness and faithfullness to God. This would include the Saints and the Virgin Mary. 🙂 Peace.

I’ve been here a couple of weeks (and I have Catholic friends too) so I understand how you guys see it. From my perspective it’s certainly worship, but I respect your definition too.
