Never said that. Obviously if you were a faithful Orthodox then your salvation would be much more evident. But God is merciful, and he understands that not everyone is going to be brought up in Orthodoxy. The only time when almost for certain it could be said you were damned is if you were an apostate e.g. Orthodox to Roman Catholic or Orthodox to Protestant or Orthodox to Muslim or Orthodox to Jewish etc.

You haven’t directly replied to my point about Oriental Orthodoxy. There are two completely distinct Orthodox Churches not in communion with one another.

I know you didn’t say that. I’m just asking. So according to orthodox we are basically Protestants to you

Yeah… I know… that’s why I’m not becoming Oriental Orthodox, instead I’m becoming Orthodox. The Roman Catholic and Oriental Orthodox churches are merely schismatic heterodox churches from the original Orthodox Catholic Church in the Orthodox perspective.

I have another question: how can you claim to be catholic (as in universal) when in practice the Orthodox Church has (virtually) no presence in South America, Africa, or Asia, and only a small presence in North America. That, by any reasonable definition, is not universal.
I have another question: how can you claim to be catholic (as in universal) when in practice the Roman Catholic Chuch has (viritually) no presence in Russia, North Africa, Anatolia, or Greece [places where Christianity originated], and only a small percent in East Asia. That, by any reasonable definition, is not universal.

Huh, I guess the Church was not in any way Catholic in the 5th century, considering the fact that there was no Catholic Church among the Germans who were all Arians, or in Asia or India who were mostly pagans, and the very very very very tiny amount of Christians who lived there mainly Nestorian.

Seriously though, you don’t know how many logical fallacies were in your statement right there. Loaded question, bandwagon, begging the question, and more.

Well then let me rephrase: who has done better at “making disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19)?

Why is your tone so hostile right now? I haven’t been in any way hostile to you. 🤨

But to answer your question, those churches are no more in communion with the Orthodox Church than the Polish National Catholic Church or the Old Catholic Church are in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.

According to your argument, the biggest Church is the right Church. Applying your logic further, the biggest religion is the right religion.

In 2050 Islam will overtake Christianity as the largest religion.
The biggest religion is the right religion.
Islam will then become the correct religion.

That’s where your logic takes you.

So bandwagon fallacy? This isn’t a very good argument. You know there was a time when the Arians were much more widespread than Orthodox Catholics. I guess that means that the Arians did a better job at evangelizing and were the correct ones at the time.

No, I understand full well that bigger does not mean better. And I understand that Christians need to evangelize among Muslims better. The question is simple: who has done a better job of fulfilling Matthew 28:19, Catholics or Orthodox?

In your opinion where should one draw the line at deciding for themselves what truth is or how to properly interpret scripture?

Peace!!!

Follow what the Church teaches, and the Church bases her doctrines off of the Church Fathers and Ecumenical Councils as well as of course scripture which is interpreted by the Church through the Fathers and Councils.

These will give you an overview of the Orthodox perspective on Roman Catholicism and will answer your question.

Like I said, in no way am I meaning this to be rude, I’m simply telling the Orthodox perspective. As said, my hand was forced.
