Look, my statements were simply to explain why you are getting negative feedback for breastfeeding a 2.5 year old. Obsviously, you can do want you think is best for your child, but I certainly don’t think it is appropriate to have a child, that age and size, sucking on a breast in plain public view. Out of respect for other mothers who have their children with them. A little baby who needs to feed every 3 hours is different. A toddler can wait until he gets home.
Secondly, I have 3 kids, who all just turned last month 4, 5 and 6. I nursed each of them for a few weeks. When they get stressed, hurt themselves or it’s time to go to bed, I don’t need, and never have needed, to breastfeed them. I simply hug and kiss on them. I sang them songs and rocked them. And before bed time, I gave them a bath and read them a book. That has always worked since they were as young as 6 months…or even younger. They are the most well adjusted kids I know. They are smart, happy and independent…except for the reassurance and little help along the way from their mommy and daddy!
So, breastfeeding isn’t the only way to nurture a child. There are many. When I decided to quit breastfeeding, there were many people who gave me negative remarks…so what? That is what was best for my baby and me as a mother…same goes with nursing your toddler…it shouldnt matter what i think or others…it’s what you think is best for you and your child…then who cares? Just as long as you are respectful and sensitive to other people, then there shouldnt be a problem.
