Fair enough, but I don’t use the term derogatorily in the slightest. I am very fond of Don Quixote. Nothing wrong with pursuing an ideal or a just cause to the ends of the earth.

I actually have more sympathy with the broader implications than any isolated incident involving a set of individuals. That is where the gossip angle comes in. IMHO. The good of this posting would be beyond that - should parishes look more introspectively, seriously at leadership, management issues with respect to practicing the faith. I agree with you that the answer is often yes. Again, I have never been in a parish that doesn’t emphasize/practice a tolerant, social justice oriented, culturally sensitive mentality over and above ‘dogma’ or ‘doctrine.’ Way over.

If one engages with real reform in mind in a parish with poor leadership, anger and bitterness are real concerns.
 
Right. You may need another parish. Leave them in peace and regain your own. Whether you are right or wrong. You live in Christ, not your pastor. Good luck with it.

I visited an Anglican parish as an inquirer maybe 8 years ago, went to orientation classes. I will never forget this one woman talking about ‘differences’ between Anglicans and how intense an ordeal it was to take communion with those whom you just had had a passionate argument. Really rattled me - I didn’t join, for a number of reasons, not just the obvious conflicts. It was so sad to hear her. Of course if you look back to the early Churches, this is all you see, everywhere. Disputes. From the letters of Paul on. So perhaps running out is not the answer. Oh well. The thing of it is - there is a ‘right’ answer. This stuff is not relative. And you are not insensitive if you say that.

There are only two Catholic parishes and I attend the best of the two. I do mitigate by carefully choosing which Mass to attend, etc.

I will say that in general, most of the combat is over in my parish. In the wake of war, we are left with a very stripped-down, utilitarian Mass. It’s better than the old days, but no where near as good as it could be.
