Hmm, I guess I thought everyone knew them, and knew the anti-religion content… here they are.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
Kind of like a world after the resurrection of the dead. There will be no religion, if one achieves Beatific Vision, religion will no longer be necessary, as will possessions, physical sustenance and so on.

Of course Lennon meant something else.

And perhaps, he also meant more materialistic aspects of religion.

But for most people, the song will be a demotivator.

I have 2 heroes in my life:

John Lennon and
Brandon Lee

Rest in peace Brothers.

“Imagine” and “In my Life” are perhaps my 2 favorite songs in the entire world.

“Imagine”, especially is a perfectly written song with infinite ways to interpret it.

All you need is love.
Give peace a chance.

In response to a post earlier, I challenge you this: Perhaps John Lennon is a Saint.

He has definitely saved many of us.

The FBI had a thick file on John Lennon.
And that says what? The head of the FBI at the time was one of the biggest criminals that this country has ever seen. If a FBI director did today what Hoover did back in his day, he would spend the rest of his life in jail.

Perhaps John Lennon is a Saint.
.
Not many saints abandon their first wife and child to run off with their lover.

I like Lennon’s music, too, but let’s not make the man out as something that he wasn’t. I’m sure he would be repulsed at your suggestion that he is a saint.

Lennon was a man of peace, a dreamer who sang:

Give Peace a Chance

All you need is love

Perhaps he was indeed a saint, as his music and the music of the Beatles have indeed saved many people, and brought light and love to people in the darkest of times in their life, such as mine.

I’m sure John is not repulsed, but is laughing up there in Heaven right now.

John Lennon physically abused his first wife and shamefully treated his son Julian. It is all readily documented. Give Peace a Chance and All You Need Is Love are great songs but they are just that, songs. They aren’t a medal of virtue for the person who wrote them. If you know anything about Lennon then you would know that he did not like the adoration and praise that was heaped upon him. Of the Beatles, he said “we were just a band that made it big.” Don’t make more of him than what he was.

Surely one should judge the message and not the messenger. It’s like the people who judge the Church for all the sex abuse scandals. A smoker doctor who tells his patient to quit smoking is still correct.

theCrow is suggesting that Lennon is a saint because of the songs he wrote. The evidence is that his actions were far from saintly. Like his music all you want but don’t try to put him on a pedestal.

I think he may have meant some sort of secular/post modern/new age type of saint or a person who is a motivator for positive behavior and not necessarily someone who led a saintly life in the original Christian context.
