IMO... It's better to be Protestant, but tell me why it's better to be Catholic

I think historic Protestants line up with many Catholic beliefs (shared creeds) … much more than liberal Protestants. We also share views written by church theologians throughout the ages. It would be very difficult for me to share with your Protestant relative who rejects Saint Paul. Does that mean that the 13 or 14 letters of Paul are not considered inspired and left out of their Bible?
I don’t know. I don’t understand her, and I have tried. I think she indeed does not consider those letters inspired by the Holy Spirit, and instead views them as written by a man, and just a man. I think the reason she rejects St. Paul is on account of the wives obey/be subject to your husbands and other things that she can’t seem to find a way to make sense of in her life. I’ve tried to address that, to help her make sense of it, but not really made progress, and I had to lay it aside. Pray for her, please, that she may grow to understand God’s word more.

She is a liberal Protestant, but in a mainline denomination.

I know the word Protestant is loaded and covers too much ground in our generation. I’m simply a Christian who once was blind, and now I see by the grace of God alone.
protestant seems to be any religion other than Catholic or Orthodox.

'outside of the church there is no salvation" that would imply that neither LDS or any other protestant is granted salvation…there is a copy of the catechism of the catholic church readily available…so why are you here? to incite? my faith in unmovable, every word of the catechism is truth to me. ALL of the countless thousands of protestant faiths are false and all that followed after the lutheran church “protest” the lutheran church, which one is just? and round and round we go:shrug:
No it doesn’t. CAF apologists have addressed this issue before as has Jimmy Akin. Christians are all a part of the Catholic Church. And the CCC addresses it also.

Do you think Jesus is pleased when He sees all this judgment of others?
Page 244 (846) “outside the church there is no salvation” I am simply quoting the catechism which is doctrine of Holy catholic church, do you understand the difference between individual judgement and quoting the teaching (catechism) of Jesus Christ? to me the catechism is truth.

I was reading something that said “There is no salvation outside the Church,” meaning the Catholic Church. But I always thought that Catholics considered Protestants and Orthodox to be Christian too.

A:
The affirmation “outside the Church there is no salvation” is explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as follows:
How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body: Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his Body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.

This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church: Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience—those too may achieve eternal salvation.

Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men. (CCC 846-848)Specifically concerning non-Catholic Christians, the Catechism notes:
The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter. Those who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church. With the Orthodox churches, this communion is so profound that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist. (CCC 838)

 I’m still waiting for why the Protestant justification is better than the other…

You are extra tough with your seperated brethren as defined by the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church receives Protestants who have been baptized in the Triune formula as brother and sisters in Christ. Mormons do not have that same status.
so is it your desire to be received by the Catholic church? are you implying it it easier for you to convert? and not so with LDS?

Then I am happy for you. We should be happy in how we serve our Lord. I am.

CCC [818](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/818.htm’)😉 "However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers . . . . All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church."272

I would suggest to go back to the Catholic Catechism and official Catholic teaching on the issue of Protestants.
IMPERFECT COMMUNION would be the key words, protestants are NOT Catholic, there are not a new “improved” version of Catholicism I am expressing a more blunt version of the catechism because apparently you need blunt language. You are more than welcome to join us, if not you do what you think is right, my faith is strong in the Holy Catholic church and I would rather suffer the death of a thousand Catholic martyrs than say it is better to be protestant…good day to you sir.

That’s very good. Is this official Catholic teaching, or is it a commentary from an ex-Protestant who now works at Catholic Answers? When you asked what my particular denomination teaches, it doesn’t work the same for me as it does for you. I draw from the entire visible church (or want to try), which crosses denominational lines and traditions. This seems to some as individualistic, and autonomous… but I believe this is wise because Christians from various denominations and traditions are really One in Christ. I take Ephesians 4 seriously, that God gives the universal church teachers to mature the saints and grow us up in Christ… So, teachers given by God for the edification and building up the saints can include Church Fathers, Augustine, Luther, Calvin, etc… up to teachers in our generation.
Sorry I cannot give you the source of the teaching I posted, I read much and I save a lot of what I read, I must be more careful, I know, about neglecting to note my source when I save. I do read a lot of the ex-Protestants turned Catholic Apologists here at C,A, and another favorite is Dr.Scott Hahnn. All commentary I read concerns Catholic doctrine only, and what I posted this morning could have been from the pen of an ex protestant and
now Catholic Apologist.
Are you telling us that you are a Christian who chooses not to claim actual membership in any particular Church, :hmmm::hmmm::hmmm:never before known one such . Thanks for visiting and sharing with us God Bless, and peace to you, Carlan
.

You’re another one of those that believes what you choose to believe in the CCC and discard that which you don’t like.

BTW…How many flies have you caught with vinegar as opposed to honey? 🙂

really? so does that mean next sunday all the protestants…even the LDS will come marching over to my parish and profess their loyalty to Pope Benedict? you are off subject, what a bizarre statement ““christians” are all part of the catholic church” you refer to baptist, calvinist, LDS, pentecostals? you should call them and let them know about this:)

Thanks for quoting the Catholic Catechism. I believe your interpretation and application is incorrect of what you quoted. Have you received me as your brother in Christ? I have been baptised by a Pastor in a visible corporate church with the Triune formula.

so is it your desire to be received by the Catholic church? are you implying it it easier for you to convert? and not so with LDS?
I have already been received by God because and through Christ. What more is there?
