IMO... It's better to be Protestant, but tell me why it's better to be Catholic

Give me a Scripture verse that states, explicitly, that one must have faith in Jesus in order to be saved.

Note that it can’t be a verse which says that those who have faith will be saved. That isn’t enough. You need a verse that states that those without faith won’t be saved.

Also, what about the OT saints? The harrowing of hell? I believe that’s mentioned in 2 Peter.

This is where I disagree with the Catholic Church… for I do not believe Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and other non-Christians can be saved apart from faith in Christ. I believe children from a Christan household of faith can be saved apart from personal faith in Christ.
The problem is that this results in an unjust God who condemns people who respond to the grace that they are given. If one is born in a family wherein he never hears the true Gospel, is he to be cast into Hell through no fault of his own? My God is Pure Good, and He would not condemn the invincibly ignorant.

We see a need for real unity. Unity under the successor of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles.
I prefer the Prince of Peace in which Peter submits to as sinner, unworthy to approach God on His own righteousness.

Are you saying OT Saints were not saved by faith (Genesis 3, Romans 4, Hebrews 11)?

Nobody is ignorant of God - Romans 1, 2, 3… All are guilty deserving of the pure holy justice of God for their rebellion against Him.

Peter was given the Chrism of infallibility, as Vicar of Christ, which he exercised not once, but twice in the New Testament.

Yes, they were, in a sense. But not faith in Christ, as they didn’t know who Christ was.

Also, notice that in Hebrews, faith is not separated from works. Each act of faith has a corresponding action in the world.

Sorry, no dice. If anything, Romans teaches that those who follow the Law (natural, or moral law, NOT Mosaic, ceremonial, or civil law) can be saved.

Oye! It’s starting to look like a kumbaya, where’s the WWJD bracelet, and let’s all group hug type of movement.

I’ll wear a sac cloth for unity rather than your flimsy brown happy face bag. The thing is, unity has been prayed for, sacrificed through fasting and sacrificing by Catholics everywhere for years. It’s been working slowly and there has been loads of protestants coming home to the fullness of the Truth, Praise God!

Your little brown bag isn’t going to do much except maybe among your own, what you need to do for unity is start taking steps toward the Church and then start running toward the Church, she’ll receive you with open arms.

What you’re forgetting is that the Church, like Jesus, has always been there waiting for you to reUNITE,

Brown bag happy face Christians who are Catholics are putting on the brown bag, calling for unity! 😃 There are more than one putting on the brown bag happy face because we are truly One in Christ! That is why we have a big smile.

There are many Catholics calling for unity… for the right kind of unity.

There are many Catholics who fall for the Kumbaya platitudes as well, what can I say? Not all Catholics call to a child to come forward toward the Banquet, rather they mistakenly think they’re doing the child a favor by enabling. Instead they could be calling the child forward while waiting with open arms, so that the child can learn to walk. When you keep holding a child, it takes so much longer for them to learn to walk.

I did and am happy I did.

What do you think about the Catholic Lutheran Joint Declaration of Justification. I bet the signers of that declaration would be wearing the brown bag happy face.

I did and am happy I did.
Don’t you feel free! It’s like when Jesus said you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free. We are truly One in Christ for those who know God through the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a refreshing truth! I hope many others will follow your bold example by putting on the happy face of Christian unity!

I’ll gladly wear the Brown Bag Happy Face for that reason, as soon as I can figure out how to add it to my posts. There’s no greater desire than the unity or reunion of all Christians. Our Lord prayed for that on His last Night before His Crucifixion. My only “but” would be: Come among us Catholics to taste and see what we have. Now, regarding the Joint Declaration regarding Justification, don’t read too much into it. It does not see that we see eye-to-eye on Justification. It says that there are points of agreement that may lead to further discussions. But I have to tell you, that I have visited some Lutheran Churches (not Missouri Synod), and I was nearly knocked over by the odor of the apostacy of liberalism and “openess”. Take care that your desire for unity doesn’t lead you right out the back door of the Kingdom.

Please go to Profile on top, control panel, and edit avatar! Christians from all traditions should have a big happy face smile! All of your posts should change to the brown bag happy face. Thanks for your brown bag happy face call for unity among those who have been adopted by God because of Christ… through grace alone.
