Why do you say the ordinations were legal?

He did *not *have the Papal approvals, all the while the Pope was constantly asking him not to do this and(as a last resort) threatened him with excommunication if he did. And, of course, he followed through. There was no “necessity” by his own words.

It has always been Tradition with a capital T to obey the Pope.
Pope Pius V in his papal bull declared that nothing be added or removed. This is where confusion started.

In reading about the Popes of old, Pius V evidently didn’t mean that his successors, whose authority was the same as his, could not revise it. Just as he himself altered the Missal when he added the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary the following year. And in 1585, Pope Sixtus restored the feast of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, which Pius V had removed. And only 34 years after that Pope Clement V111 made a general revision of the Roman Missal, as did Pope Urban V111 30 years later.

I.m sorry if I offend anyone, that is not my intention. But I feel this is just Martin Luther all over again. If you admire Lefebvre, you gotta admire Luther…😃

(I forget the name of the book, but it was about all the Popes, I got from the Library. (BIG book) 😃 )

If we are to stick to tradition, we have to obey the Pope. He is the Vicar of Christ on earth. Mary told the people at Cana…“do what He tells you to do”…This alone should be enough.

If Jesus is unhappy with the '“Vatican” and the NO or the TLM, He will correct it, He really doesn’t need our help. When we try “helping”, we usually just screw things up. (look what we did in the Garden of Eden:o )

Step Back, “do what He tells you”, and let God be God.👍
Martin Luther? They hold totally different premises though. Most “Orthodox” Catholics would be closer to Luther.
Or at least, so the SSPX claims.

Was St. Athanasius a proto-Martin Luther?

You’re getting confused. She said she wanted this prayer at the Ordinary Form Mass (the Novus Ordo or Pauline Mass), where communion is frequently offered under both species.
I did misunderstand, sorry:blush:

think about this…

Martin Luther was fighting to get “abuses” corrected.
SSPX are “fighting” to get “abuses” corrected

Luther kept his attitude that he was a TRUE Catholic
SSPX say they are the only TRUE Catholics

Luther was “upholding Tradition”
SSPX is “upholding Tradition”

Luther was "separating himself from “Rome”
SSPX is separating itself from “Rome”

Luther says by “upholding Tradition” he has to disobey the Pope
SSPX says by “upholding Tradition” they have to disobey the Pope

Luther started “his own church” so to speak
SSPX have started their “own church” so to speak

Luther asked for a Catholic Priest when he was dying.
SSPX will “hopefully” follow suit

I could go on and on …the only difference…
Luther didn’t have the internet…poor baby:rolleyes:

If you really want to get the full story, go to your Catholic Library, and read, read, read…🙂

One of the biggest differences between the New Mass and the Old Mass. With the Old Mass, you have to be educated on it to understand what is going on. Its not like the New Mass where you can show up for the first time and have a decent idea what is going on, at least visually and audibly. You must educate yourself on the Old Mass to understand it. Once you start into that, you will really start to understand your faith on a much higher level. It opens doors in an incredible way! I think the fact that the New Mass is so easy to understand may contribute to the fact that so many Catholics do not know their faith. I am not saying this about anyone here, but I do know that there are people at my parish that have no clue. Then, I go and serve at the Tridentine Mass at another parish and am around people that have a very deep knowledge of the faith. Try it! It will amaze you! Instead of complaining about not knowing what is being said, study what is being said. This mass is not as complicated as it looks. Yes, there is almost always more than one thing going on at a time, bet there is a reason for every single thing that happens at that mass.

All of that is also true of the Orthodox. Are they like Luther? Are they Protestants now?

I agree somewhat. There has been an incredible “dumbing down” of the Faith going on for some time. I think a lot of it though has to do with the attitude of the priest celebrating the Mass.
