Yikes!

Blueberries are at least natural. Skim milk is NOT.
What is in skim milk, other than milk that has had the fat removed? I’m rather curious now.

Well, I can tell you that the stuff you get in the store is awful. Real milk, like fresh from the cow, has all kinds of antibodies, enzymes, and other good stuff in it that the homogenized, pasteurized, yucky stuff in the store doesn’t. Check out this site or do some research on your own to see what I mean. AND, it just tastes a million times better! 😃
 
It’s always been my understanding that raw milk is a no-no for pregnant women or small children due to the risk of camphylobacter, listeria, or salmonella infection, which can cause, among other things, miscarriage of the baby. Raw milk cheeses are not recommended for the same reason.

Of course, it’s probably no worse than sushi- which I do occasionally eat (and which has never made me sick), although I wouldn’t if I were pregnant, and didn’t eat it when I was still in that happy “it’ll happen next month” phase. I’d be willing to try the milk if there were sellers in my area. The only supplier on that site that’s close to where I am during the week is Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor, and they’re listed for raw-milk cheese only. Knowing them, it’ll probably be $30/lb. :rolleyes:

I also second the info on that site. In short, you need the fat in milk in order to digest it properly. Whole foods in their natural state the way God created them are always best. If all they did to skim milk was to remove the fat, it wouldn’t even look like milk. It would be whey. Pasteurized homogenized skim milk is just about the unhealthiest food I can think of. Raw milk is only dangerous if the cows are improperly fed, as most commercial cows are. I drink raw milk, but it is from an Amish farmer whose farm I have seen with my own eyes. They eat grass, they are clean and well cared for, and so the milk is very high quality. I just finished reading a book about this. The only reason milk had to be pasteurized was because the cows were fed distillery waste, had very little outdoor exposure and were mistreated, so they were sick and harbored bacteria, and the people who drank their milk got sick too. When you take care of the cows, they take care of you. To answer the question about skim milk, the following quotes apply:​

Average butterfat content from old-fashioned cows at the turn of the century was over 4% (or more than 50% of calories). Today butterfat comprises less than 3% (or less than 35% of calories). Worse, consumers have been duped into believing that low-fat and skim milk products are good for them. Only by marketing low-fat and skim milk as a health food can the modern dairy industry get rid of its excess poor-quality, low-fat milk from modern high-production herds. Butterfat contains vitamins A and D needed for assimilation of calcium and protein in the water fraction of the milk. Without them protein and calcium are more difficult to utilize and possibly toxic. Butterfat is rich in short- and medium chain fatty acids which protect against disease and stimulate the immune system. It contains glyco-spingolipids which prevent intestinal distress and conjugated linoleic acid which has strong anticancer properties.

Buy only full-fat milk products.

Powdered skim milk, a source of dangerous oxidized cholesterol and neurotoxic amino acids, is added to 1% and 2% milk. Low-fat yogurts and sour creams contain mucopolysaccharide slime to give them body. Pale butter from hay-fed cows contains colorings to make it look like vitamin-rich butter from grass-fed cows. Bioengineered enzymes are used in large-scale cheese production. Many mass produced cheeses contain additives and colorings and imitation cheese products contain vegetable oils.
 
Yes, whole foods in general are so much healthier than the over-processed junk that passes for food nowadays. No wonder we (in general, the numbers definitely support this) are having trouble conceiving, as well as all the other health problems that are skyrocketing today. Cancer used to be rare, now everyone has it. The better we take care of our bodies, by not putting all these man-made chemicals into them, the better chance they will function correctly. At least, since I’ve stopped eating any processed foods, my PCOS is a little more under control. I feel so much healthier in general. No more picking up every bug that comes along, my migraines have almost disappeared. I’m sure that eating real food instead of chemicals is what caused it.

I don’t know that cancer used to be rare. People used to die of “consumption” fairly often. A century ago, many doctors didn’t know what cancer was, nor how to diagnose it, and even 40 years ago when we did know about it, would women who had breast cancer have wanted to discuss it? It’s been my understanding that it was taboo to speak of such things.

I agree that the boom in the processed food industry since WWII has not been beneficial to our health. I am encouraged by the recent movements toward unprocessed or less-processed foods and eating locally (purchasing as much as possible from local farmers and vendors). And eating “real food” is definitely a plus, and yes, is better for your health. In fact, one of my uni professors has a book on Probiotics that will be released for sale tomorrow. I had a chat with him a couple of weeks ago, and he told me that the book addresses how taking care of your gut and the beneficial bacteria that populate it really has an effect on your health. This has been his area of research for some time, and he was really interested in getting the word out on a more healthy way of eating. He also assured me that he and his daughter tested all of the recipes in the book and tossed out the ones that were gross. 😃

(Note: I’m not trying to advertise, per se, I just think that Dr. Huffnagle is a great prof and I’m excited about this book.)

Yes, it does! That is part of the “traditional foods” idea as well. Not only whole unprocessed foods, but fermented foods to balance the gut, such as yogurt, kefir, sourdough breads, pickled veggies, etc. This site has more info on it. I don’t follow it word for word, but overall it has very good nutritional advice. I think just going back to more homemade food in general helps, you know there aren’t as many chemicals in it. Again, our bodies weren’t meant to have to process all that artificial stuff, and it has to have some bad effects on us.

I had my apt. in Omaha today. I will have a lap. as soon as they can schedule one. I either have adhesions or endometreosis. Dr. Hilgers believes I may have a fungal infection that caused the two babies to die. I am sensitive to sugar and I have been trying to give it up. At any rate they will do cultures and we will see where we are. I am still waiting for the results of the blood tests. I am frustrated because this is taking so long. It sounds like I may not get into surgery until Sept. or Oct… The side aches are making me crazy and I wish we could get to the bottom of the fungus thing now. Each time I go to the doctor I have to explain my last year and it really leaves me depressed and drained. Pray for me I am wiped and frustrated.

My adhesions were caused by my endometriosis. I am hoping for the day when they can finally tell us the actual cause of it. There are a lot of theories out there, but still not much concrete.

I remember the side aches and the frustration never goes away. You are in my prayers.

I have PCOS and the sugar thing really affects that too. I know how hard it is to cut the carbs out, but it worked. Did he say what kind of infection? Is it systemic, or just in the uterus? Never heard of that. Hope you get some definitive answers soon. I’ll pray for you! :crossrc:

We will know more after cultures are taken. For right now I am off the sugar and little or know carbs. I think I will treat myself and my husband to a big fat ribeye.
 
Dkoinzan–I’ll be praying for you! I’m sorry this is so frustrating. It’s really hard to have to wait for test results and to wait for surgery. It sounds like you are on the right path. Did they say why so long before the surgery? :hug3:
 
I really don’t know why the bloodwork is taking this long. I guess they get a bunch of like tests and do them all at once. I won’t have surgery until Oct. because that is the soonest they can schedule me in. It seems that this has drug on and on.
 
Dkoinzan- I’ll be praying for you too. If it’s any help, you can ask to be put on the wait list in case someone cancels. Sometimes people get pregnant or have a conflict and there is a cancellation so you could get in sooner.

AF is officially one day late. I’m trying not to get hopeful, but of course I’m obsessing as I do every month there is a possibility of being pregnant.

I am going to offer up some of this frustration for you that you become pregnant. It makes it easier to wait if you know in some way it can give graces to someone else.
