It’s always been my understanding that raw milk is a no-no for pregnant women or small children due to the risk of camphylobacter, listeria, or salmonella infection, which can cause, among other things, miscarriage of the baby. Raw milk cheeses are not recommended for the same reason.
Of course, it’s probably no worse than sushi- which I do occasionally eat (and which has never made me sick), although I wouldn’t if I were pregnant, and didn’t eat it when I was still in that happy “it’ll happen next month” phase. I’d be willing to try the milk if there were sellers in my area. The only supplier on that site that’s close to where I am during the week is Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor, and they’re listed for raw-milk cheese only. Knowing them, it’ll probably be $30/lb.
