Influential nun calls for 'non-violent resistance' against Vatican apostolic visitation

hopefully, this sort of mentality will pass in a generation or two.

The notion that they should not care if they’ve nothing to hide is, as Col. Potter would say, “horse-hockey!” The only “horse-hockey” surrounding this woman is her lack of humility, charity and obedience. Calling an investigation ordered by the Holy Father, “aggresive, hostile, intimidating, and uninvited” by a sister who claims to be Catholic is inexcusable. This investigation is being conducted by an institution (the hierarchical Church, “the Vatican,”) which has publicly shown itself to be unaccountable, given the recent sex-abuse scandals and shifting of responsibility and blame. Find a new drum to beat…the survey of the seminaries were conducted to prevent repetition of conditions that fostered abuse. The level of trust has been eroded. I wouldn’t trust this woman to train my dog. I think the author rightly smells potential abuse of the Church authority entrusted to these investigators. There is no evidence to support this. I know one of the Bishops who was part of the team that investigated the seminaries. He is above reproach, as were others who performed this service for the Holy See. I would trust that man with my life. I do not see her as trustworthy. What exactly is it this woman is smelling? What kind of “abuse” would that be? If they have an agenda to change these religious orders into something they are not meant to be, then the orders will need to be on damage control. It is up to our Holy Father to decide if these orders are not what they should be, not her. If they are heretical, they need to repent and come into compliance and quit poisoning young minds. Damage control! How do we ever “control” the damage women like this have done to the Church over the last 40 yrs! I think the sister is right in suggesting that a cool and businesslike, but charitable manner may be the best way to receive these uninvited guests.Her remarks are cold, uncharitable, prideful and disrespectful of the Pope. A religious order is not a business. Those sent by the Vicar of Christ are “uninvited”? Would she likewise turn away Christ? Our Holy Father has every right to investigate the behavior and character of these rogue orders and order changes or disband them as needed. She should be honored that he is such a holy and concerned shepard. We need to pray that she is given the grace and humility she needs to follow Our Lord Jesus in His Church/quote]

I don’t think that this nun has very much influence with orthodox Catholics.Don’t they take bows of obedience?

Is a “bow of obedience” something like a bow an archer uses? If so, I can see why she would emphasize a “non-violent” response. We don’t want a bunch of wacky nun firing arrows at the visiting priests and bishops. That would be messy. 😛

Orders are given permission to form in order to fulfill a specific charism. Many of these orders have strayed far from that charism. I think it would be expected that the visitations would include an inquiry as to whether the order had already suffered change “into something they are not meant to be”. And if the sisters were involved in that change, they *should *be on alert. They may be called to account for their leading the order astray. That is not to say that the new direction is bad but it isn’t what they were meant to be.

I don’t think it is “all of a sudden”. I believe this is part of a long term plan that started with the seminaries and is now shifting to the religious orders.
 
I wonder what she thinks of the influence and positive spiritual impact of Mother Angelica.

People are hungry for sanctity and need leadership in this pursuit. The secularized nuns don’t get it.

I have heard the fast growing orders are traditional nuns, they wear habits and don’t try to make up their own rules

There is a Dominican order of beautiful young women near me, and it’s thriving

I hope I like to see the re-greeing of the church one more, and I think it has already started

As for the nun that wrote that email…her smoke and mirrors say volumes about her
 
One might suggest that a list be made of those who “non-violently resist”. One might also suggest that the Catholic faithful also “non-violently resist” those on said list, by not sending contributions to those who have “non-violently resisted”…
 
Perhaps it’s time for the Church to “passively resist” heterodox religious orders by cutting off all financial support and letting these folks get real jobs.
