I think there is very little more to be said on the matter of the Inquisition, the Albigensian Crusade and McCarthyism.

I am trying very hard not to misquote you or set up a strawman. You believe that torture, rape, mutilation, killing, and the destruction of families and careers because of people’s religious or political beliefs can be excused by claiming that the institutions and the acts they spawned were ‘necessary’. In other words, the end justifies the means.

I happen to believe that torture, rape, mutilation, burning, strangulation, strappado, and the destruction of people’s lives and careers because of their religious or political views is wrong, now and always. I think we must leave it at that.
