What are some interesting facts about yourself? Things that not many people know? Have fun!

**OK, I’ll play;)

Something most people would not know about me without me revealing it is that I have severe social anxiety disorder. But I have learned to fake it so well that I have been described as “outgoing” and friendly and lots of fun. That’s even news to me, lol.**

On a more fun level, only those who know me well know that I go nuts if I don’t do some sort of rearranging of my furniture on a regular basis. In most cases I am not a big fan of change, but furniture/decor gets boring FAST for me:shrug:

Oh my, this could turn out to be an interesting thread :). I too will play along.

One thing that only a handful of friends know about, is that I seriously considered a life as a monk after converting to the Church. My parents already had enough trouble dealing with my conversion, they would have been devastated if I had told them. So I was very conscious about it not getting out.

A lot of people at my university, would properly be surprised to hear that I really hate to draw attention to myself. Basically I suffer from social anxiety, but still force myself to be more assertive in my professional life. Also practically nobody knows that I used to deal with anxiety attacks, and still do to a small degree.

I am a fan of a number of television series from the 80’s, such as Magnum PI and Miami Vice (owning both series on DVD). Don’t know why, perhaps it is a mixture of nostalgia and being a geek (to put it in perspective, I also have a fondness for star trek and the west wing) 😊.

Something only known by family and some of my former dating partners, is that I am extremely ticklish. Not something I would want to get out to the wrong kind of people, could be hazardous to both my own and their health :D.

MIne are silly but I’ll play.

I can name all 50 states in alphabetical order.

I can name the first 20 presidents in order.

I know ALL of the Brady Bunch episodes by heart.

👍 👍

I play the piano…
I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was a teenager…
My parents collectively, had 21 siblings. 🙂
My dad was born in Italy.
I’m in the process of learning how to speak Italian.
I can speak quasi-fluent French.
I love jewelry. (that might not be that interesting, but…lol)
I used to read the dictionary as a kid.
I wrote a book review for Canticle (Johnette Benkovic with EWTN) magazine, a few years ago.

Malia–I would never have known that about you. (anxiety) You seem so gregarious!

I wish I could just name all the 50 states! 😊 😛 Good for you–that’s impressive!!!

I am such a perfectionist that I am often paralyzed by indecision.

When I finally do make up my mind, it’s always too expensive.

I research everything to death. You know, because I have to find the perfect solution.

I married a fellow perfectionist, so nothing ever gets done. The good news is that having children is slowly curing me of this disease (“disease” referring to the perfectionism 😃 ).

I enjoy making pottery on a potter’s wheel.

I’m addicted to my husband’s salsa. :heaven: When he makes salsa (doesn’t matter what kind), we can easily polish off a gallon of the stuff and several pounds of tortilla chips in less than a week.

I love to eat, and am blessed with a great metabolism that doesn’t make it obvious that I love food. Aging will eventually change that, I’m sure.

  • I’m shy. (People laugh when I say that, so I don’t tell anyone . . . )
  • I know WAY too much about the characters on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
  • I was a Girl Scout for 10 years.
  • I can still recite the Gettysburg Address, having learned it in the 4th grade.
  • And the really big one, that you must never, ever, ever, reveal . . . I am no longer a natural redhead. 😃

I’ve written several novels about synchronized skating. Two are published, a third will come out soon. See my website in my signature.

That is amazing, Cat! Good for you!

Might you share your hubby’s salsa recipe? 😃
I’ll have to ask him… He’s got like a dozen that he uses, and lately, he’ll just throw like 3 or 4 ingredients together. As far as I can tell, the secret is rehydrating dried chiles, or using fresh roasted chiles.

Well, I’m terribly shy and feel like an awekward teenager most of the time (most who know me wouldn’t believe it because if it’s something I’m passionate about, I’m a loud mouth, but only via email).

I prefer writing than speaking (again this way it prevents me from saying too many stupid things)

I was a president of a non-profit that served the homeless

To those who don’t know me well and have seen both me and my mom, that I’m adopted (my mom and I look more alike than my biological mom and I).

When I was a child (and even now to some degree) I would buy math books at the stores (or check out math books at the library) and work on problems all summer long (now I work on the logic puzzles and all the varients of Sudoku).

As for the pointless information:

I can also state all the states in alphabetical order

I can say the alphabet forward and backward in under 10 seconds

I can touch my nose with my tongue

I can fit my whole fist in my mouth

While my friends would know these, my CAF friends might not…
  • I too wanted to be an archaeologist when I was young.
  • I read the encycolpedia for fun, not the dictionary.
  • I too speak French, although NOT quasi-fluently.
(Were whatevergirl and I separated at birth?)
  • I have been to the pyramids in Egypt, my long-time archaelogical dream.
  • I have been to 21 countries (other than the US, where I live) and Monaco, 3 continents, and 42 of the 50 US states. Two of the countries I’ve been to aren’t countries anymore!
  • I’ve been to the general audience of two popes-- JPII and B16.
  • I **love **to cook.
  • I used to be a high school math teacher.
  • And… I too can list the 50 states in alphabetical order.

I can do these, too. 👍

Admittedly, the only reason I can name all 50 states in alphabetical order is because of a song I learned in 6th grade, Fifty Nifty United States, by Ray Charles. 😊

My husband and I both did this as children. Started in kindergarten or first grade, I think… It’s so addicting, because you start looking stuff up, and then before you know it, you’ve spent 2 or 3 hours surfing through the encyclopedia. 🤓 Yep, I’m a nerd.

What an interesting life you have led, 1ke. I would love to have traveled as much as you.

Interesting that you too were interested, in becoming an archeaologist…I too have many daydreams about visiting the pyramids. You are a lucky girl, 1ke!!:o

Interesting parallels all with the exception of math. You were a math teacher…I was the one needing tutoring for it. 😊 😃

Maybe I can do these things after my husband retires. That’s so neat, 1ke!
