*My first reaction to anyone is that they are human beings - they have families, they love, they hurt and suffer, they cry, laugh and share all the same emotions we all do. Is the person funny? Intelligent? Caring? All these things would influence my judgment. However…Pax vobiscum,
From Nostra Aetate urged both of us to: work sincerely for mutual understanding and to preserve as well as to promote together for the benefit of all mankind social justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom.
There has been some good work since 1965, but we still are somewhat estranged. I wish to ask: what is it, that acts as a barrier for mutual understanding and promote benefit for all mankind?
From an inter-faith meeting, I was surprised when a really splendid Catholic said, I was the first Muslim he’d met who hadn’t tried to convert him. This shows a rather arrogant and disrespectful attitude from some of my brethren which is a shame and will do nothing for mutual understanding. Maybe this attitude is more prevalent amongst Muslims?
Firstly we need to put our egos aside for this endeavor to work, so let us make this thread full of respect; asking and listening with aim to find out more rather than pin some agenda on the other group no matter all credible evidence pointing to the contrary.
Dominus vobiscum
There is an A-Z of countries (mostly Islamic) where Christians are persecuted as we speak:
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Egypt
- Iraq
- Iran
- Saudi Arabia
- N Korea
- China
- Sudan
- Laos
- Bali
- Burma
- Cuba
- For Soviet Republics
- Pakistan
- Nigeria
- India
- Brunei
- Israel
You are not interested in converting to my religion just as I am not interested in converting to yours. What interests me perhaps is your culture, your music, dance, philosophy, art. I can respect and enjoy such things. But don’t stop me from bringing a bible into your country, setting up a Church, etcv. etc. There is no reciprocity. There is a mosque down the road from my home. But I cannot go to a middle eastern country and visit a church - in all probability it will be burnt down!
That makes me sad. Islam wants to force the Islamic religion down my throat and Islamic parents will kill a daughter who does not marry the man they choose for her. There are so many terrible things in Islam and I often wonder how an educated man can accept such a religion. I have reached the conclusion that it has nothing to do with religion but rather culture. My culture is better and more beautiful and more powerful than yours kind of thing.
Then they do not go by the rules of engagement. Islamists/Jihadists hide and sneak and kill innocent people - women and children, even in a Church and Muslims in general just turn the other way. Its all OK.
I am angry!
May God forgive the terrible thing Muslims do to Christians.
