Another example of how sin affects (even possibly across generations) others in today’s Mass readings (now technically yesterday’s readings)

2nd SAMUEL 24:2, 9-17 also seen here.

2nd SAMUEL 24:2, 9-17 (RSVCE) 2 So the king said to Joab and the commanders of the army, who were with him, “Go through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beer-sheba, and number the people, that I may know the number of the people.” . . . 9 And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: in Israel there were eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand. 10 But David’s heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the LORD, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, I pray thee, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.” 11 And when David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying, 12 “Go and say to David, 'Thus says the LORD, Three things I offer you; choose one of them, that I may do it to you.” 13 So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, “Shall three years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now consider, and decide what answer I shall return to him who sent me.” 14 Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress; let us fall into the hand of the LORD, for his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.” 15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time; and there died of the people from Dan to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men. 16 And when the angel stretched forth his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented of the evil, and said to the angel who was working destruction among the people, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17 Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was smiting the people, and said, “Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me and against my father’s house.”

Of course the 70,000 who died are not personally held accountable for King David’s sin in their own judgment, but they quite obviously do share in the EFFECTS of King David’s sin.

bold and ul mine.

Lastly, he talks about training other Christians to perform the (rites?) but the training
afforded is extremely limited, if not laughable.

If someone is going to come along and write an adult book about the deliverance ministry, fine. I haven’t found it yet.

PRAYERS of Simple Exorcisms recommended by the Vatican:
  1. Have mercy on me, O Lord my God,
mercy on me, your servant [your servant]:
a crowd of evil spirits undermines me
and I am like a broken vessel.
Tear from the hands of my enemies,
left to me next, look for me if I get lost,
bring me back to you after having found
and do not forsake me back after [given] to you,
so that I can like all
and recognize that I have redeemed [redeemed] with a mighty hand.
    Through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.
  2. Almighty God,
you offer a home to the missing
and take back the prisoners to prosperity,
See my affliction and come to my aid.
    Defeat my mortal enemy,
    so, who fled his presence,
I can find freedom in peace
and, back [back] in a serene and quiet prayer,
    proclaim how great you are
for having given to your people to victory.
    Through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.
  3. God, the creator and protector of mankind,
You created man in your image
and in an even more admirable
I’ve re-created with the grace of Baptism:
lift up thine eyes on me, your servant [your servant]
    and listen to my supplications:
arises in my heart the splendor of your glory,
me free from all fear and dread
I will return and serenity of mind and spirit,
so that I may praise you and bless you
with my brothers and my sisters
    in your Church.
    Through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.
  4. God of mercy and the source of all goodness,
    you willed that your Son
for us to suffer the agony of the cross,
to free us from the power of our mortal enemy.
    Look with favor upon my affliction and my pain;
you that in the baptismal font
You have made me a new creature,
help me to overcome the onslaught of the evil
and fill me with the grace of thy blessing.
    Through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.
  5. You wanted me, O God,
    make me son [daughter] of the light with the adoption by grace;
not allow the Devil to wrap with its darkness,
but does’ I can always stay
in the magnificent splendor of freedom
of which I have given to us.
    Through Christ our Lord.
    Amen.
