I would take the side of Taiwan and India as I would hope our government would
also.

Storm in a teacup.

They are all manouvering around snd have been for some time, due to the war games on the high seas.

Because the people are ethnically Han and so the Chinese on the mainland view them as a disobedient province propped up by Western imperialism. It is the same reasoning why they want to run Hong Kong the way they do.

Honest question, if it comes to China vs Taiwan (or more likely, China vs India) which side will you take?
I knew two Chinese girls who studied in the USA, one from (mainland) China, the other from Taiwan. They were both dear friends of each other. Without the politicians and American propaganda, people from different areas can get along very well and there is no need to take sides, setting one against the other.

Those islands have been the focus of Diplomatic eyes long before Kim Jong started his displays of power. While the world was watching Kim , Diplomacy were concerned about those artificial islands.
Those are the proper hands.
Any sort of invasion , attack or recognition of those islands as proper territory means a real whole new paradigm. Worldwide.
Displays of power and testing limits. That is what all this is for now…imo.

I can’t remember which article contained it but some demographers are speculating China is lashing out now because the pandemic created a better window of opportunity to flex its muscles.

They would have done it regardless of the pandemic because these demographers suspect like many stats from China are unreliable, the population may actually be shrinking right now and its birth rates are much lower than claimed. That means fewer recruits for its army. It’s also why demographers suspect the PRC started a desperate campaign to encourage people to have more babies, which has failed. Modern demands of careers and lopsided gender balance are behind this.

And unlike Western countries that can use immigration, immigrants don’t particularly like the abusive attitudes of a totalitarian regime. So the communists won’t even have that. And given the recent racist incidents towards Africans, China has shown it’s hostile to foreigners. And people from the Middle East aren’t too keen on China given the concentration camps for Uighurs.

China’s century? Probably not according to these demographers.

It’s not that article but I think they were thinking of what’s already happening in Japan:

About end of May or beginning of June , the Popular Assembly of China, approved a project of law of national security that criminalizes effectively every dissidence against Beijing in Hong Kong territory , and that could be extended to Macao and Taiwan. The new law controls ”possible sessesion, subversion, terrorism and foreign interference.” and was approved to control pro democracy disturbances in the city ongoing for over a year .
This project was approved under the cover of this pandemic excluding local legislators. It was announced through a letter Carrie Lam read .
Opposition fears this may mark the end of one country two systems …

Some context…

interesting take on China.

Modern demands of careers and lopsided gender balance are behind this.
The CCP has made allowances for people to have two children. However instead of the boy and girl which the CCP is hoping for, which brings more balance to the genders, people are hoping to have two boys instead. The cultural preference for boys in Asia is too strong, even for a Communist government.

This should be of interest . . . re . . world events.
This is rather old news. If you watch the show “What on Earth”. This has been old news for about 5 seasons. It has also been creating artificial islands.
If we sit on the sidelines if Taiwan is invaded, will will cease being a relevant world power, much less a superpower.

It’s all fun and games when you elect a reality TV star until someone loses a country.
We stopped being relevant as a super power about 2 or 3 years ago. And we topped it off with whipped cream by removing ourselves from the WHO.
I think it’s more likely he’d wuss out and do nothing but tweet.
You and I agree on something.
If he were to fight a war against China the same way he fights Covid-19, we’re in big trouble

After Taiwan then who next? India? the Philippines? Singapore?

Very worrying.

I know China is very keen on getting revenge on Japan for the atrocities committed during World War II. But why would China invade Russia? Aren’t Russia and China allies?

China has claimed the Kamchatka peninsula, which belongs to Russia, using the same reason that it claims the South China Sea. According to the Chinese, both belonged to China during ancient times.

If China annexes the Kamchatka peninsula and builds military bases there like it is already doing in the South China Sea, Russia will rightly view it as an invasion.

Right now, China is building military bases on contested lands. Lands which India is also claiming. It is also building dams which could control some of the tributary rivers of the Ganges. India understandably is very concerned. China is trying to control the water resources of not only India but peninsular Southeast Asia. It is doing this by building dams.

This may be anecdotal but I learnt it in China speaking with the people about how the policy had worked.
Men provide the house when getting married,it is on them or their family to buy it, which means it is too expensive already to have a boy. So the chance of a second boy, once you have had one… too risky:)
Grandmas help with the child when mom works so then again, two is kind of a lot for them.
So basically they had already got structured around one child. The policy increasing to two didn’t really work
I would not have expected this answer but I got it…I found it interesting…
