yes . i do some real life and abstract art with variouce paints but my favorate pictures are ilestrations of passages in the bible .
as a child i had a large print bible and used to doodle in the space on the page , my mother said it was sinfull to deface the bible but i thought god would be pleased that he was now in colour! :o i will try to uplode some of my latest pictures but i dont know how succesfull ill be (im some what of a computer cretin).

i no longer draw in bibles theres not enough space in adult versions:D
Were the monks who did illumination and calligraphy “defacing” their Bibles?

So much has been done to truly deface the Bible – either physically through destruction or desecration or spiritually through misinterpretation or heresy – I believe that one child’s innocent act of childlike devotion pleases Him to no end.

I had not seen this post…but i see the simplicity of the statement, and the truth. It is why God asks us to come to him like the child. Completely without reservation and non conditional, just pure…Yes it pleases him much to see a childs devotion to him.

Although not a small child, the type of devotion i am thinking of was seen in a movie i seen last night for the first time. The Song Of Burnadette. No matter how bated, she was truthful to no end.

No work that I have pictures because I’m pretty private about my artwork, but I recently started Icon creation. I guess it’s a gift I have that I never knew about until I tried because I told some Eastern Catholics about my attempts and then showed them the outcome when they were pretty impressed (humility :o ) and said they honestly didn’t expect something of the quality I made to ever be produced by a “Latin”. That just proved to me that it was the Spirit, not me who created the image.

I also write with Catholic themes in poetry and short fiction.

After reading this thread quite awhile back I finally decided to put something on… I airbrushed this the other night and it is now my signature picture… I just took a picture of it with my cell phone and sent it to my email so the quality is rather poor but here it is anyway…

I like it. I wish I could see it larger, though, to make out more details.

Hey I’m glad you did that and told me because I never thought I could do it through mobile thanks,

God bless

Wow, SD_Catholic, that’s amazing! Thanks so much for sharing.

Sorry I’ve been away from this thread for so long. Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

neat… I read back on some of the posts and seen where you hadn’t did art work for quite awhile. It was kinda that way for me also… I drew all the time in highschool, but didn’t do much of anything for about 5 years… a buddy of mine asked me to paint a mural in the nursery of their new house… I was scared but agreed to try it… after that I messed around mostly with oils for a few years and just lately started painting with the airbrush wich is fun learning so far…

Recently I watched a movie called “Babette’s Feast”: amazon.com/Babettes-Feast-St%C3%A9phane-Audran/dp/B000053VBK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1213302072&sr=8-1

It’s a simple but wonderful story with subtle Catholic symbolism and themes. As an artist, I found it very encouraging. In addition to the central eucharistic theme, there are three other powerful ideas in the film:
  1. Don’t be afraid of your own joy (i.e. use your gifts without fear)
  2. An artist can bring God’s grace into people’s lives
  3. If you’ve given up your joy/artistic gifts, God will give them back some day and you will be the artist He always meant for you to be.
Anyway, I can’t recommend it enough 🙂 I’m glad you’ve been having fun with art again lately!

I am just returning to the idea of creating art again after years of having a “dayjob” pounded it way down. I’m free now. (Don’t want to use the word “retired”). I was trained in fine arts when I was young, pursued art like a fool, married, had a son, became unmarried, then had to compromise to survive. Eventually my creativity diminished and then came to a halt. Now I will have the time and freedom to get back to it. I haven’t painted since before returning to the Faith two years ago (today, June 12). I know my Catholicism will play a great part in whatever I create. It will take some time to get to get used to this freedom and begin anew. 😉

I never had a real job:) … I’m a farmer/rancher so actually winter or rain allows me to practice art if I choose… even though there are many other things I should probably be doing:o

I write - poetry, songs, memoir kind of stuff… there is a lot of spirituality for example in my poetry. It is also something I want to share with people.
I play street music with my guitar, and sing my songs… sometimes I make up songs spontaneously. More and more recently I have been singing about God and my faith.🙂

Here is some of my work.
